How to open app under System Preferences

Recommended Posts

I just installed LaunchRocket on my laptop and I can't find it using Alfred. Is this possible? Do I need any specific add-on for it?

Can Spotlight find the preferences pane? If so, Alfred should find it, provided that it's in the search scope.

You can also create a custom workflow with a keyword to open it. :)

Spotlight can see dock but Alfred can't

Alfred should find your Dock and any other preference panes, so first, check your Default Results preferences in Features > Default Results, to make sure the checkbox for Preferences is ticked.

If Alfred can't find certain apps/files/prefs, it's likely to be an indexing issue, so launch Alfred's preferences to the Advanced tab and click the "Rebuild OS X Metadata" button. It'll pop up Terminal and require your password, then your Mac will rebuild your OS X metadata. Once it finishes, type "reload" into Alfred to refresh your app cache.

Cheers,

Vero

Tried both. You can see the config below. All three apps(Flash Player, Java, LaunchRocket) can't be searched via Alfred.

I did clearing cache, rebuild metadata, then reload. Nothing change T_T

Where are these preference panes installed in OS X's file system? Could you drop one of them into this tool so we can see the metadata:

This is one for LaunchRocket. Perhaps the fact that I install it via Homebrew-cask making it unavailable?

/opt/homebrew-cask/Caskroom/launchrocket/0.6/LaunchRocket.prefPane

Yep, as I said, you'd just need to add /opt/homebrew-cask/Caskroom/launchrocket/ to the default search scope (or even just .../Caskroom/) for things to be found.

Alfred shows the icon provided by Finder which may not be the one it uses internally for the System Preferences. You could always just create a simple keyword workflow linked to launching that prefPane with the icon you like :)

What theme are you using? I'd like one, if you can share?

I just learned that Homebrew-cask has Alfred integration built in.

Use this command to link the casks to Alfred. They also have a dedicate section for Alfred Integration

brew cask alfred link

As a result, I'd love if Alfred can display the icon to reflect what's in the Preferences but this work nicely.oDz3uIe.png
