Won't find any applications (e.g. stickies, notes, etc).

Alfred (v2) is no longer finding applications:

  • I checked my preferences, it should be searching '/Applications'
  • I reloaded my cache by typing 'reload' in Alfred. After 5 minutes, it's still not finding my applications.
  • Here are some screen caps of default out-of-the-box applications that I can no longer find - FYI I can't find ANY apps but these are basic examples:

First thing, click 'reset' on the search scope in Features > Default Results > Search Scope just in case there is an issue here.

Secondly, is Spotlight finding Apps? If not, you likely need to do a reindex of your OS X metadata, shortcut in Alfred's Advanced prefs :)

  • Yes, I had reset my search scope.

Spotlight is finding results

  • That's what I'm using to launch apps now.

I tried clicking "Clear Application Cache" in the under "Advanced" (just now)

  • Is this the same as typing "reload" in Alfred?

I am in the middle of a work-day so I will not Rebuild my OS X Metadata

  • I will have to try doing that before leaving.

Oops! I didn't quote so you probably don't get any sort of notification, I replied above.

Could you drop one of the applications which Alfred isn't finding into this tool and let me see the output:

Yes, I have completed all of the steps listed and everything checks out ok.

Could you please try removing /Applications from your search scope and then clicking "Reset"?

If this doesn't resolve your issue, pop an email to info@alfredapp com and we'll help you out further :)

Cheers,

Vero

I am having this same problem and have tried all of the fixes here. I tried completely resetting Alfred per this page too: http://support.alfredapp.com/kb:reset-alfred

I used the Advanced section to clear the application cache AND tried rebuilding spotlight. When I type any application into spotlight search it is found immediately. But Alfred takes up to 30 seconds to find a match, if it finds one at all. It's like it doesn't have an application cache.

At one point it would find an application after several seconds, and then it could find it again quickly. But after clearing the application cache I can't find any. Perhaps I need a way to force the application cache to update/rebuild, not just clear?

I used the metadata tool on iTunes, just one of many apps alfred isn't finding but is found in spotlight. Here are the results. Please help! Alfred works great on my other computers but this one for some reason it is uselessly slow!

Try one more thing. Alfred returns results as fast as OSX returns them to him so there may be some metadata corruption. Typically, just a regular reindex will fix this but occasionally, a different reindex is required. This will trigger the deletion of the Spotlight directory and all index data and do a reindex. Try it and see if that clears things up. Here's how to do it.. Open a terminal window and enter the following:

sudo rm -R /.Spotlight-V100
sudo mdutil -i on /
sudo mdutil -E /
