Large Type from the Clipboard Viewer

Hi!

 

I often try to display a piece of text from the Clipboard Viewer in Large Type, using its assigned hotkey (Cmd+L). It seems so natural to me, but it doesn't work. Instead, one have to copy and paste again the desired element in Alfred main window to display it in Large Type.

 

I think it would be a nice little addition Thanks for considering!

Easily done with a workflow (download available for a few days). It’s pretty bare, so you should fill the missing information that you care about, but it works. Pick a hotkey to call it, or run lt (for “LargeType”).
 
For reference, here’s how it looks


The Run Script node simply includes the text pbpaste.

Thanks Vitor, I didn't think about a workflow for this! However, it works only with the latest clipboard element. I was mainly thinking about previous elements, when browsing them from the Clipboard Viewer. Is there a way to access the clipboard history in a workflow?

There’s a file in ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 2/Databases/ called clipboard.alfdb. If you run the file command on it, you’ll see it’s a SQLite 3.x database, user version 1, and if you run cat you should be able to see your clipboard history in your terminal.

With this in mind, it should be possible to do what you ask, yes — it’d be a matter of parsing that file, displaying some preview with a Script Filter, and pass the chosen argument to Large Type.

It would not be possible, however (at least currently), to display the clipboard history in the same way it is presented now, as we do not have access to that kind of presentation in Alfred (although many of us would greatly welcome that possibility). This would make the implementation somewhat crippled, as showing a preview of a few characters corresponding to what could be a huge text would be limiting.

In that sense, to have that feature optimally, we would really require it to be implemented in Alfred, yes — either by allowing us access to that type of view, or by implementing your original request in full.
