Use AppleScript text objects as a list of options?

You'll have to excuse me as i've not done much with AppleScript or Alfred workflows but i'd like to use a list of text objects (I believe this is the term Apple uses for them) as a list of options for use with an Alfred workflow i'm writing. 

 

From what i've read on the forums Alfred currently only supports XML is this true?

It is. The xml feedback format is documented here. Check out some of the libraries and helpers listed here though for sure. They will make your job of creating feedback for Alfred much easier than having to script it yourself.
