After last update Alfred search is slow

Recommended Posts

After last update Alfred takes tons of times to search (and sometimes not search at all and i've to delete some characters to make the search run).

How can i solve ?

I've cleared application cache, rebuilt os x metadata without success.

I use (see my other posts) Alfred to search on a network shared folder (and i've to admit that spotlight NOT search in that folder) WHILE Alfred (at least in previous build) searches ok in that folder.

When you reindexed, did you check the "Delete Spotlight-V100" option? This will allow OS X to fully rebuild the index. If you haven't, this is the first thing I'd recommend doing.

Nothing in Alfred has changed relating to search in recent releases. Alfred still relies on the same OS X metadata as Spotlight, so you'll need to ensure that your Mac's network drive is indexed and included in your search scope.

Let me know how you get on :)

Vero

Hi Vero,

thanks for the reply and support.

Yes, i've done as you said (and re-done).

Unfortunately it not solve the issue.

I'm still astonished: why Alfred usually works properly searching on a network shared folder, while Spotlight no ?

Why now Alfred works so sloooowly and not always .... ?

Any more help, please ? I love your app ...

Is Alfred always slow or specifically when searching the network shared folder?

Could you please remove the network drives from your search scope in Features > Default Results and let me know if search is faster?

Hi Vero, not always. Sometimes slow and sometimes fast (as usual).

To be truth i've only that shared folder in my search scope in Features > Default Results.

I've now reset (and added also local default folders) and search in local folders is instantaneous.

Anyone can help me ?

Apologies, your previous post sounded like the end of the question.

Could you clarify now whether your local results are fast and behaving normally? Is it only the network results that are giving you trouble?

If that's the case, I would recommend creating a file filter workflow for your network drive, so that you do not include it in your default results.

Here's how you can set up a file filter workflow:

http://support.alfredapp.com/tutorials:file-filter-workflow

Don't specify file types to include, and add your network volume to the search scope. You'll then be able to search that network by using a keyword to prefix it, and Alfred won't include the network's results in your default results - which should keep normal searches nice and fast. :)

Unfortunately i continue to have issue searching in my network shared folder.

Yes i receive issue ONLY on the network results.

I've done as you said (hope it's correct, i've sent a private message, may you please check that?) BUT it not always works, sometime yes, sometime no.

It's really odd!

Btw i've to leave in general preference panel the options as default ?

As Alfred doesn't index network volumes himself, any performance issues with searching a network shared folder are entirely out of Alfred's hands. Alfred will present results to you instantly after they are fed back to him from OS X (which is why local file results are almost always instant).

I'm not sure what to suggest to help speed up OS X's network search as there are many factors involved (depending on your setup). You may need to do a bit of non-Alfred research regarding network search, or perhaps somebody on this forum may be able to give you some ideas?

Hi Andrew,

any chance to send you some debug files to see what could be wrong ?

The odd is that i've 4 clients in the same network and only 1 gives me this issue.

Hi there,

The issue is going to be with the specific client and its connection to the network / drive or its own metadata index, and not Alfred. As this is an issue outside of Alfred's control, Alfred's logs wouldn't provide anything useful in this instance to debug.

Cheers,

Andrew
