I found that "Malware Bytes" had shown up on my computer and I deleted it two days ago. I thought that may have scrubbed Alfred. That didn't work. I've deleted Alfred and redownloaded multiple times, entering my License Key and restarting the computer each time. Currently, the top hat icon in my upper task bar that used to allow me to get to my preferences only opens the free version. If I click on the icon in the Launchpad, nothing happens. I was getting an error code telling me that I couldn't download an app from outside the Apple App Menu, and I went to my apple account and changed that. Don't know how that got activated, but I do share an apple account with my family, so someone else may have turned it on. Then I downloaded Alfred again, and got a prompt to set my preferences, which I did. Everything appeared to be working at that point so I went to sync through Dropbox and get my snippets back from my laptop. It crashed Alfred and now I'm back to where I was. The icon on the toolbar goes to the free version, the Launchpad link won't open my paid version. I've granted the Alfred program full access to everything. There are no crash reports but I have gotten multiple reports that say there's an issue on my Mac and asking my permission to send the diagnostics to Apple. Can't remember the exact wording, but it's telling me something happened on my computer and that Apple wants to get the information to see what it was. Every other program on the computer is working fine and Alfred appears to be working on the laptop. Below are some screenshots. Everything was working fine and one day it just stopped abruptly and I don't know what triggered it. The only thing I know that could have happened is I turned off ChromeRemoteDesktopHost about the time that Alfred went away. I don't know what that is, so I turned it off, but then I started to get a prompt to turn it back on every time I started my computer. I got fed up with that and turned it back on, so everything in the back end of my computer should be the way it was when Alfred was working. I'm open to ideas, it's rough not having Alfred and trying to do my job while also spending a couple of hours a day trying to figure out why it's not working.

GitHub Action to package Alfred workflows

https://www.alfredforum.com/topic/14604-github-action-to-package-alfred-workflows/?do=findComment&comment=124708

Thanks @vitor. I actually went ahead and built a small GitHub Action that follows that guide: it blanks variabledontexport keys before zipping, excludes prefs.plist, and expects the workflow in a workflow/ subdirectory so .git, README and CI config stay out of the package.

The good news is that if you use Time Machine, your preferences will be recoverable.

Could you please open the Console app in macOS? If you've had an Alfred crash, you'll see a report under the "Crash Reports" header. If there is one, please email it to info@ so that I can take a look on what's causing Alfred to crash on your Mac - as that's very unusual.

I grabbed my laptop, which still has my snippets, and tried to do a sync with my main computer to restore my snippets. When I tried to launch the sync, Alfred went away from the main computer. The top hat logo is gone from the toolbar and the application won't launch in the launchpad. This was the original problem. As far as I know, I've not used an "app cleaner". I don't even know what that is, or where I would find it. The default Web Searches list includes a lot of services we ourselves don’t use. It’s a convenience to users, as everyone has their own preferences.

"Setup fallback results" looks like the option I'm looking for; it's a powerpack only feature so it looks like I have to get the powerpack for that. I've only been trying Aflred thus far and haven't yet got the powerpack.

How many snippets did you previously have?

It doesn't appear you've been syncing your preferences so the question I asked earlier probably doesn't apply.

You can recover the Alfred.alfredpreferences bundle from a Time Machine prior to encountering your issue. It'll be in your user directory under ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred/

Copy the whole Alfred.alfredpreferences bundle to the same location your current Mac profile to start using these preferences.

Having said that, it's worth establishing how the issue happened, e.g. Have you used an "app cleaner" or other app that claims to make your Mac more efficient? It's possible that if you upgraded Alfred with one of these apps running, it moved your original preferences to trash.

Let me know how you get on

I restarted multiple times and checked everything I could think of in my Mac settings. Finally I reentered my license and it's working again, but I'm afraid I've lost my snippets. I've read several forum topics about this and am not as tech savvy as the people who were attempting to recover snippets and so I'm afraid I've lost a lot of work. First, is it possible to get them back from Time Machine easily? If so, what are the steps? Second, is there a way to easily store Snippets because I'm constantly changing them.

Go to Alfred Preferences → Features → Web Search and, on the “Search” tab check at the top "Only show enabled searches" and then check which you wish to be enabled, like this:

Edit: You should also go to Alfred Preferences → Default Results and, at the bottom of the page, select "Only show fallbacks when there are no results" and then click on "Setup fallback results" (which, in my case, is set to "Show dictionary for {query}"—meaning that if I type a word the fallback (if no other results are available) is to search for the word in the dictionary).
