Tried troubleshooting, but I can't even drag-n-drop the offending file onto the troubleshooting window.

    @Tony B Welcome to the forum :)

Did you drag your files to the spot that says "Drop file..."? This will then fill the bottom box with the output from the troubleshooter.

Let us know how you get on after your rebuild, and when dragging files to the troubleshooter.

  2. @zlc1952 Welcome to the forum :) Vero aka ra1ndr0p here.

Thanks for sharing the video - based on everything I can see, and what you've said, this issue is exclusive to Anki, so have you contacted them to understand how it manipulates the clipboard? Snippets text expansion also uses pasting, so everything points to Anki (or more specifically, one or more of the plugins) manipulating the clipboard in such a way that normal operation cannot happen from Alfred.

The notification sound you're hearing - assuming it is what I think it is - is the sound you'll hear when there's no text field in focus for Alfred to paste a snippet or clipboard item into. Again, it indicates that Anki is doing something unusual.

If other community members use Anki, they may also have suggestions.

  3. @Cliff Using Dropbox normally isn't an issue - I've used Dropbox to sync my preferences since the beginning of times without issues.

However, as you're experiencing these issues, the best thing to do is to create a new location in your home folder. For example, try creating a folder called ~/Alfred/ directly in your home folder, and setting this as your sync location for the moment. This ensures the folder isn't included in the iCloud synced folders in macOS, and should give you a good place to test whether you're seeing normal behaviour with your preferences.

Once we've narrowed down whether you see the issue with Dropbox out of the equation, we can take it from there. :)

  4. @Miltrin Welcome to the forum!

It's not possible to use a Snippet Trigger in a workflow embedded within a standard snippet due to their complex and open ended nature.

Think of Snippet Triggers in a workflow as a trigger to run a workflow to do anything at all, but from a typed phrase in any app. It just so happens that you can also paste this back to macOS using a Copy to Clipboard, essentially making a scripted snippet in your case.

To achieve what you'd like to do, set the snippet trigger to what you'd like to use (e.g. "nb" in your example), then place the "jrnl bujo -contains --change-time {query}" in the Paste to Clipboard output object.

It's also worth noting that you don't need the "Arg and Vars" object.

Let us know how you get on or if you need any further help with the workflow :)

I noticed that Word and Excel are quite affected too (Caps Lock / space / Tab... and funny unsolicited moves of the insertion point).

Ah this is indeed relevant; Sounds like there are deeper issues on your Mac, which are being exhibited in Alfred and in other apps, so a clean reinstall may be a good idea. Note that after a clean reinstall, it's preferable to avoid doing a full migration of your old Time Machine / backup, as the source of the issues could be transferred back in.

  6. @wellerpond The first step would be to remove files and folders from your Alfred default results (which aren't normally included by default, so you checked these boxes)

    Screenshot 2023-10-16 at 11.00.31.png

Next, change your workflow to "No argument" in the dropdown, as you're just looking to open a file, so there's no need for an argument to be typed.

You'll still see results for apps and built-in keywords that match, but depending on your real keyword (as I assume it won't be "test"), there may be none.

Edited to add: When you want to search for files, which are now no longer included in your default results, prefix your search with the "open" keyword, or press the spacebar. This will broaden your search to include files, folders, etc...

  7. @JJP I'm honestly a little baffled, as this isn't something I can recall encountering before.

Is there anything unusual about your configuration? Are you using a regular mouse and keyboard? Virtual machine, hackintosh, remote desktop? Are you running third-party apps that could be holding focus away from Alfred?

As well as answering the questions above, could you please temporarily create a new user account on your Mac and test this feature? No need to activate your Powerpack or configure anything else, you just need to run Alfred on a completely default macOS account.

Let me know how you get on.

The issue is not that I can't choose a specific set of keys or save the changes. I could make one first change a few days ago. When I tried to change again, the box is not active for change in Alfred Preferences app.

@JJP Could you please take a screen capture so that we can see what's happening here? Certainly sounds odd, like something else is stealing focus.

since my first change, the Caps Lock button on my keyboard does not hold anymore, generally, whichever app I'm using.

This behaviour's changed in Sonoma I believe, try holding the Caps Lock button for a moment? I'm not on a Sonoma Mac right now, but I'm sure someone else can confirm this.

In other applications all snippets are pasting the clipboard - tried in Email, Evernote, Logseq, etc.

@dantray Did you follow the instructions I provided to slow down key events?

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/snippets/#partial

Evernote, for one, is not a native app; It's an Electron app and is slower than native macOS apps. I haven't needed to slow down key events on my Mac for it, but if your Mac is under heavier load, as I mentioned before, you may need to give these slower apps a bit more leeway to get things done by slowing down the steps in which Alfred deletes the keyword first, then pastes the content of the clipboard.

my snippets are pasting whatever is in the clipboard instead of the pre-defined text.

You can slow down key events to allow the app you're using to catch up before Alfred pastes the content of the clipboard:

The date field in this item below isn't populating the date, it just pastes it exactly like that?

Could you please try in TextEdit and let us know if the expansion works there? And could you share the content of your full snippet, as this should expand normally?

I tried to change Alfred's default hotkey and it worked. Then, it came back to default key.

@JJP This indicates one of two things:

    • Either Alfred is unable to save your changes to preferences to file, which could be caused by permissions issues on your Mac
    • The location you're using to sync your preferences is not available at startup, resulting in Alfred creating a new set of default permissions

Could you please let me know whether you're syncing your preferences, and if so, what service you're using?

  12. @yinan The underlying issue in macOS causing this rendering bug appears to be fixed (with the Sonoma Rendering bug checkbox in Alfred's General preferences disabled) in the macOS 14.1 developer beta 3.

We don't yet know when this update will be rolled out to the general public, but please keep an eye out for it - or if you're a developer, please do test and let us know if it appears fixed for you too.

  13. @Jay B Welcome to the forum - and to Alfred :)

The best place to start when you're unable to find files is by dragging a few of them into the File Troubleshooter:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

This tool is built into Alfred and will give you a set of green checkmarks and - if something's not quite right - some red crosses, letting you know how to troubleshoot the issue.

Following instructions should be fairly straightforward; You may just need to let your new Mac complete its first index if it's really brand new out of the box. Alternatively, you may need to rebuild the macOS metadata index (steps 5 and 6 in the link above).

If you need further help, please post the output of the File Troubleshooter for a few files, and we can help you from there onwards.

  14. @Cliff Taking a look at your preferences, your hotkey is indeed set to ⌃⌥⇧⌘P and should not pop up for Cmd + Shift + C. (As a side note, you can select the Viewer Hotkey field and use the backspace to clear it altogether if you prefer)

I can see that you're using Dropbox for your preferences, so it's possible that Alfred is creating a new set of default preferences at startup if the Dropbox file isn't available at launch. Could you please check that your Dropbox is set to keep the Alfred preferences offline at all times?

To do this, open Dropbox to the location of your preferences, right-click Alfred.alfredprerences and select Make available offline.

If you've done the above and the Clipboard window still pops up with that hotkey combo, to eliminate any source of confusion, could you take a screenshot of your screen so that we can ensure it's not one of your other clipboard apps popping up?

  15. @PencilPenMarker Welcome to the forum :) As of last time we checked, macOS doesn't provide a way for third-party apps to control this behaviour, so it's not possible for Alfred to change this.

Having said that, it can be done with a workflow. [Note: I've edited my answer, as @vitor provided an even better one!] You can use the Shutdown Timer workflow to restart, and can set the apps to relaunch or not in the workflow configuration:

    https://alfred.app/workflows/vitor/shutdown-timer/

  16. @Jimmy Bosse It sounds like your preferences may no longer be where Alfred expects them to be, which can happen for a few reasons:

    • If you used an "app cleaner" on updating Alfred, the preferences may have been removed, so check your trash first
    • If you've recently updated to Sonoma, check whether your sync folder location is still accurate, e.g. Dropbox and other services have moved their data in recent years, so re-set your sync folder if needed

If the issue persists, please provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email this to our info@ email address so that I can help you further. :)
