  1. @garyh Thanks for providing more details.

I'm not familiar with .service files, are they normally considered apps in macOS? If so, what's happening is that macOS is just treating the .service files as apps (as you can see from the ContentTypeTree) and including them in your results.

    You have a few options:

    - You can exclude the single .service app by dragging it to Spotlight's Privacy tab. You should then type "reload" into Alfred to refresh the application cache and remove it

    - You could exclude an entire folder within Cellar if these results are not relevant and/or there are multiple .service files showing in your results. Again, clear cache after adding them to Spotlight Privacy

    - If .service files aren't supposed to be apps, you'll need to do a little research to work out how to correct the type

    Hope this helps :)

  2. @manjaro Have you checked Spark Mail's settings in case they have a feature that manipulates what you paste in some way? Or have you been in touch with the Spark Mail developers if that's the only app where you encounter issues? They may have some pointers for you, if standard native apps are working normally.

  3. @fcocchiano Did you migrate your preferences from Time Machine or another Mac when upgrading to Monterey? There's a bug in macOS Monterey's Migration Assistant that appears to cause the OS to lose resolution of your home folder in the transition from one Mac / backup to another.

This appears to be the most common scenario where users experience this issue.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  4. @manjaro Could you please test this in TextEdit in plain text and see what behaviour you get?

When you say "not consistent", do you mean between apps or within a particular app? Google Docs and Gmail are particularly likely to manipulate what you paste, adding spaces, removing spaces, adding line breaks, etc... This also changes when Google do updates.

If you can provide some more details as to the specific context where you're experiencing the changing behaviour, I'll see if anything can be done :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  5. @garyh This file type shouldn't be included in default results.

The best place to start is by using the File Troubleshooter, so that you can see what metadata is being returned for that particular file:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

If you share it here, as well as your Default Results preferences (including any file types you've included via the "Advanced..." button in the Default Results prefs) we'll help you work out what's happening :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  6. @Smpl The Alfred preferences app is stored within the Alfred.app bundle.

It's not possible for us to know the exact cause of why this isn't working on your particular network configuration, however, it's imperative that Alfred has quick always-on access to his preferences file. The best way to ensure this is to keep the preferences locally and use a system to handle the sync aspect.

This is essentially why we, until this point, recommended Dropbox, as the files remain local and immediately accessible. Dropbox then syncs it up with the Dropbox cloud service. In your particular case, the files aren't local and are actually on a network volume, so while you can set it, YMMV.

In your particular case, I still recommend keeping the files local and using a sync mechanism to push these to your server. Many NAS drives will have a client app that can do this type of syncing for you.

    Hi,

Any new workflow to make FaceTime with Alfred?

You don't necessarily need a workflow for FaceTime. You can add a custom action in Features > Contacts, so that when you open a Contacts card for a friend, you can set the default or alternative action to be as follows:

    Screenshot 2022-03-09 at 13.32.21.png

You can then search for your friend's name in Alfred, open their contact card, choose the email address (or phone number if that's what you have set up, you'd just need another custom action for that) and use your combo (in my case Cmd + Return) to launch Facetime.

You'll still need to click the green button to start the call but it's still very quick :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  8. @Pietro Could you please also let us know exactly what you're typing into Alfred to find these files?

As you can see from the yellow warning on the docx file, this file type is not included in Alfred's default results, so you would need to type "open Trasparenza" (or use the spacebar trick instead) to broaden Alfred's results and include it.

If you can be more specific as to what you're typing, and pop your Diagnostics file by email to our info@ address, I'll take a look to see if it provides more insight :)

    Cheers,
    Vero

  9. @Smpl Alfred and Alfred Preferences are two separate apps, and rely on underlying file system notifications to communicate the preference changes with each other. It could be that these notifications aren't happening on your network volume setup.

A more reliable solution would be to keep your files locally on your Mac, and use rsync to coordinate changes with your local server. That way, Alfred always has instant access to local preferences, even when the network volume isn't available.

  10. @fridayrah Welcome to the forum. You can manually add Alfred by following these steps:

    • Click the padlock icon in the bottom left of the System Prefs > Security & Privacy > Privacy preferences, and authenticate with your user (administrator) details
    • In the Full Disk Access list, click the [+] at the bottom of the list
    • Navigate to your Applications and add Alfred
    • Check the box next to Alfred
    • You'll likely be prompted to restart Alfred, so do that
    • Relock the padlock in the Privacy tab

As for Automation, macOS will ask when it's needed, so there's no need to manually try adding Alfred.

Let me know how you get on :)

  11. @Smpl The Alfred.alfredpreferences file is essentially a folder containing your preferences. The fact that the date hasn't changed on it doesn't mean it's not syncing.

Which syncing service are you using?

Try adding a custom search, or changing a snippet, then once your sync service has done its job, checking the Alfred preferences on your other Mac. Provided it's set up properly, you'll see the changes :)

  12. @23skidoo Welcome to the forum :)

If you choose a bit of text and use your Universal Actions hotkey (by default it's ⌘/), then type "large" and press return on the Large Text action, does it work as expected?

If so, this confirms that there's a clash somewhere on your Mac with ⌘L.

Some suggestions of what to check:

    • If you're using Alfred workflows, go to the Workflows tab, click the cog at the top of the list of workflows and check "Show hotkeys". This will allow you to see any hotkey used in your workflows in case any use ⌘L.
    • Check other background apps: The type of apps that live in your top menu bar and run in the background, which makes them easy to forget. Is one of them using a conflicting hotkey?
    • Try quitting everything you can on your Mac, see if ⌘L works. If it does, slowly relaunch one app at the time, until you find the one that's clashing.

    Cheers,
    Vero
