  1. @bo123x Please don't bump threads about indexing from two years ago, as your issue is unlikely to be related.

     

    Are you using macOS Monterey? If so, please take a look at this thread, as you're likely encountering the same issue as other Monterey users who have migrated their preferences from a previous Mac.

  2. @stevenrowan @KMadvisor Based on the limited information you've provided, I'm guessing you've both migrated your user data from a Time Machine backup or previous Mac to macOS Monterey?

     

    If so you'll be experiencing the same issue as the users here, where the underlying index is broken. Please follow the instructions provided here carefully, including granting Terminal Full Disk Access and deleting the Spotlight-V100. 

     

     

    This resolves the issue for all users, though some seem to report a delay of a day or two before the index fully resolves itself.

  3. @enkaytee Have you granted Alfred Accessibility? Most system commands require this permission instead.

     

    Sometimes, macOS can lose resolution of which apps have been granted permissions upon upgrade, so if Alfred was already in Accessibility, remove Alfred fully by clicking the minus button so that Alfred is no longer included in the list, then re-add him to the permissions you need. 

     

    This should "nudge" macOS into re-granting permissions to Alfred.

    Yes, you can open your Powerpack preferences, view your license and click "Deactivate" to remove your license from a Mac you no longer want to use

    While it's not possible to cross-grade from one license type to another within the same version, if you opted for the Single User license, you'd be presented with upgrade options to the Mega Supporter when the next version of Alfred is announced :)

    Thanks for sharing this, but sorry to hear this macOS bug's rearing its head again  🤦‍♀️  (or maybe it never went away - Comments aren't a heavily used trick)

     

    For users who are less keen on sudo command, I recall that setting alfred:ignore, closing the Get Info window, opening it to add a second tag, closing again, then removing the second tag was a ridiculous dance of force-updating that did the job as well.

     

    I'm unable to confirm, as the comments are working as expected for me at this time, but the above is a lower-risk option for those who prefer not to use sudo commands.

    • Which version of Alfred and macOS are you using?
    • Is the issue recent, long-standing, and is it always present or intermittent?
    • Is the issue specific to files in OneDrive or anywhere else too?
    • What is the output of the File Troubleshooting tool if you drag those files in?
    • What are you typing in Alfred (e.g. are you using the spacebar prefix to search all files, or only for apps/folders)?

    The more information you provide, the more likely we'll be able to help you out.

     

    For files stored normally on your Mac, rebuilding properly (including granting Terminal Full Disk Access, and deleting the Spotlight-V100 file as you begin the rebuild) resolves any indexing issues, but if your issues are specific to OneDrive, something else may be at play.

  7. There are two unrelated issues being discussed in this thread concurrently, so I'll first respond to the issue of Alfred's hotkey not triggering the window.

     

    A small number of users on Monterey seem to be experiencing an issue where the Alfred hotkey cannot be used when certain apps and fields are in focus. This may be due to a change in Monterey's security features; In this case, it looks like it aims to stop apps from simulating being a secure input field. 

     

    When this occurs, @itabraham highlighted that Console presents this message:

    We've tested a variety of scenarios in Monterey using 1Password, Keychain, Safari with a password field, and a few other apps to trigger secure input mode, and Alfred's hotkey has worked normally in every instance. As we've been unable to replicate this, we'll need the help of those who are affected to establish in what scenarios this can happen.

     

    When you encounter this scenario where the Alfred hotkey can't be used:

    • Which apps are in focus right now? Which apps are running on your Mac?
    • If it's an app with plugins (e.g. Chrome), what happens if you disable or completely remove the plugins? Bitwarden seems to have been one of the potential interfering parties so far, perhaps Microsoft Teams?
    • Does Console show the message quoted above?

    If you're able to help us work out when/how this happens, as Andrew said earlier on, we may be able to make the WindowServer aware that Alfred's search box popping up is "caused by user activity".

  8. @luckman212 Can I confirm that if you use alfred:ignore on a native app, then type "reload", the app disappears from results? The issue is exclusively with Adobe apps?

     

    If you use Alfred's File troubleshooting tool to take a look at the metadata of an app after you've added the alfred:ignore, is it correctly showing in the metadata? In much older versions of macOS, I recall that macOS sometimes failed to "stick" comments when they were added. I haven't personally experienced this on Big Sur or Monterey, but that could be what's happening to you.

     

    Honestly, Adobe apps have never behaved like normal Mac apps; they may not even be proper apps on your drive as they're part of the Creative Cloud, so you may have to add them to Spotlight's Privacy tab, and create a workflow with keywords > Open File for the ones you do want to see in your Alfred results.

  9. @luckman212 I've just tested this on Monterey, setting a comment of alfred:ignore on an app and using the "reload"  keyword, and it worked fine.

     

    Are the actual Adobe apps in /Applications/Utilities/ or are they somewhere else on your disk? 

     

    Moving out of bugs, as it doesn't appear to be a bug, and other Adobe Creative Cloud users may have suggestions on this.

  10. @godbout I've watched your video and it's very difficult to make out what you're doing without explanation or a view of your keypresses.

     

    It looks like there may still be something interfering with your hotkey combo; If you change Alfred's hotkey combo to something obscure that definitely isn't used by another app you're using, what behaviour do you see?

    Also, if Alfred *crashes*, could you please send any crash logs? I haven't heard of an actual Alfred crash in a very long time so I'd be very interested in taking a look at any logs you have from Console.

    Aside from Google Drive, is everything else found in your searches? Google Drive is a completely different beast and unrelated to this thread.

     

    An update to Google Drive in recent months has caused Spotlight and macOS to stop indexing the files. 

     

    Google is very opaque about what's happening under the hood with Google Drive so we don't know whether they intend to re-enable indexing in the future. If you take a look at this thread, @vitor has created an excellent Google Drive search workflow:

  13. @daanjj If you want to match on letters that are in the middle of a word like "nw" for Network, switch the App Matching mode from "Fuzzy Capital Letters" to "Full fuzzy match from word boundary" in the preferences > Default Results > Applications > Options... button at the very top of that preference pane.

    This will then match on any letter within the word, such as "ps" for Photoshop or "nw" for Network. It may make your results slightly noisier and less accurate at first, but as you start choosing the right app for the keyword of your choice, as suggested by Deanishe, the right file/app will come to the top for that keyword. :)

  14. @godbout @fonginator Sounds like there's a hotkey conflict. Please check your Spotlight hotkey, which was likely reset to cmd + space by macOS on upgrade to Monterey. This would result in the exact behaviour you're seeing.

     

    Also, as you're likely both using multiple languages, check that it's not being used by the language switching or the Siri "hold Cmd Space to speak" feature.
