When I tried to delete the file directly from Mac Finder, it failed with "Error -43". When I accessed the package from Google Drive in a browser, I was able to see the contents of the package, but I was unable to delete it. .

@dhayhfd If you're unable to manually delete a file in Finder, this demonstrates that the issue is outside of Alfred.

A quick search shows the following:

"The OneDrive error code 43 on Mac can be caused by a file name with special characters. If the file name includes special characters such as brackets, at signs, or apostrophes, OneDrive may not be able to find it. In such a case, you can try looking for such files and updating their names."

Take a deeper look at your Google Drive files and setup, as this is where the issue will be occurring. Once you're able to delete files normally and manually in Google Drive, you should once again be able to delete your snippets via Alfred again :)

  2. @ggg411 Taking a look at your Diagnostics, I can see you're using Cmd + Space as Alfred hotkey. Given Alfred has no way to interfere with keypresses like tab and space, I think what you're seeing is a conflict of both Alfred and Spotlight trying to use Cmd + Space, resulting in the focus being taken away from the app you're using.

First, try changing your hotkey to something other than Cmd + Space and see what behaviour you get.

Next, take a look at this page on resolving the Cmd + Space conflict with Spotlight:

  3. @ggg411 Welcome to the forum! Could you please fill in your Powerpack email address in your forum profile?

Could you also provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email it to our info@ email address so that I can take a look at your configuration.

Could you also share whether you use any keyboard modifying apps like Keyboard Maestro, Better Touch Tool or similar? This will give us more insight into what your particular setup is, as Alfred doesn't interfere with simple keypresses like tab and space, especially when the Alfred search box isn't showing.

    Cheers,

  4. @dhayhfd Could you please let us know where your preferences are stored? E.g. are you syncing your preferences to Dropbox. iCloud, etc? It's possible that macOS is unable to find the Trash for that particular volume/service, resulting in this error.

You can always manually delete it by navigating to the folder where your preferences are stored, right-clicking the Alfred.alfredpreferences and choosing "Show package contents", opening the snippets folder and deleting the collection from there.

  5. @DJdR It's possible that accessibility isn't granted on your two other Macs (or that there's some corruption to the permissions)

As outlined in the Troubleshooting link Stephen mentioned:

You need to ensure that Alfred is granted Accessibility access in your Mac's Security & Privacy preferences, under Accessibility.

Alfred needs to be listed here and the box next to it must be checked. If it is already checked, please quit Alfred, remove and re-add Alfred to the Accessibility preferences, then relaunch Alfred. This will ensure that if macOS has corrupted any permissions (which can happen, particularly after a macOS major upgrade), this will refresh them.

  6. @Ben DW Welcome to the forum :)

Could you let us know which email app you're using? Alfred pastes exactly what you've saved in your snippet, so the email app may be further manipulating what you're pasting.

[Edited to add: Apologies, I've just spotted you mentioned you're using Spark Mail]

Could you please use TextEdit in rich text, paste your snippet there - which I assume will work as expected - then copy the contents and manually paste it to your Spark email. This takes Alfred out of the equation, so you can see how Spark reactions to your rich text from your clipboard. What's the outcome?

  7. @ptn This can be done using an Automation task (and took about 3 seconds to create! It took me longer to export it and put it on Dropbox to share than it did to create the workflow itself 😆)

    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/emzc5rf1khdfy6ko2gplz/Copy-URL-of-frontmost-browser-tab-paste.alfredworkflow?dl=0

You'll need to set a hotkey in the first object, and ensure your Automation Tasks are up-to-date, but then you'll be up and running in no time! Feel free to modify the workflow in any way that makes it more useful for you, and let us know if you need any further help.

    Cheers,
    Vero

  8. @Jacob Graf I would still recommend creating a new user profile, which should only take a few minutes, activating your Powerpack and testing your workflow there with newly created workflows. This will help establish whether there's an issue with the profile data that was imported from your Time Machine, or agnostic to a new or old profile.

Based on our experience with past versions of macOS where community members used Time Machine and Migration Assistant to transfer data across, we've seen how hangups from previous installs can be carried across. This has an impact on much more than just Alfred's search - though it tends to be the first thing you spot. This can usually be cleared with a deep reindex but it seems that for a small number of users, it could only be sorted with a fresh install (or fresh user account).

  9. @Jacob Graf I can indeed see that it's not returning the expected results. As mentioned earlier, I've tried your workflow and have no issues on either my own Mac or our test Mac.

My suspicions are still on the likelihood that a migration from Time Machine has caused underlying issues which are being exhibited in Alfred but caused by macOS.

If you search for those folders using Alfred's file search (i.e. "[spacebar]maizzle"), do you see the results?

I would recommend temporarily creating a new user account on your Mac, populating the ~/Sites/ folder with a few things, then searching using both the spacebar shortcut and your workflow to see if you're seeing results. It will help establish whether the issue is specific to your primary profile, which I think is likely, or a broader issue on your Mac.

Let me know how you get on.

  10. @Jacob Graf Could you please drag a folder that is within your search scope of ~/Sites/ rather than the Sites folder itself as it'll provide more useful information?

Can you also please let me know exactly what you're typing into Alfred? Screenshots could be useful here, so that I can see exactly what you're doing.

Is file search in general working for you? E.g. If you type the "open" keyword (or press the spacebar) followed by the name of one of your folders within ~/Sites/, are these folders found?

Finally, have you granted Alfred Full Disk Access?

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/getting-started/permissions/#integration

  11. @jacobgraf Could you please share at least a few outputs for relevant files in the File Troubleshooting tool? I've tried the workflow and it works as expected, returning folders within the ~/Sites/ folder.

If you've just set up your Mac using a Time Machine backup, it's not unheard of to have issues with search until the index has been rebuilt, even if Spotlight appears to be returning results.

The next best step would be to fully rebuild your Mac, following step 6 here:

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

  12. @melhopkop Are you able to find about non-Dropbox files via Alfred's spacebar search? And what about Spotlight? I'm a bit stumped at this point, as this feels like an unusual issue given your Troubleshooter output.

Could you also create a new folder at the top level in Dropbox and see whether this brand new folder is found?

Is there any non-standard configuration or upgrade on your Mac that might help us work out what's happening on your Mac?

I'm not sure that's the problem.

@melhopkop It may be relevant, so could you check whether your Dropbox content is set to be available offline?

Next, could you please prefix your search with the spacebar and let me know if you're finding the folders? The spacebar (equivalent to the "open" keyword) broadens the search so that Alfred searches a broader range of file types, which should include the folders even if for some reason they're not being recognised correctly as folders.

I'll sync it in a few hours, add back the workflow, then see what happens.

@marfon It's not clear what you mean by "adding back the workflow", could you clarify what you're doing?

If you're manipulating the preferences directly, rather than installing a workflow on one Mac by double-clicking and allowing Alfred preferences to import it, this may be having an unpredictable impact.

It may also be wise to exclude Keyboard Maestro from this process for the time being to work out whether the workflow, when triggered from a normal hotkey or keyword, while unsynced, works normally.

The more variable change at the same time, the trickier it makes it to work out why the workflow isn't behaving as expected on one of your Macs.

  15. 1 hour ago, marfon said:

How might syncing break this workflow?

@marfon If your Mac is set up to use iCloud for syncing, it is possible for that to be the source of the issue. With Optimised Storage enabled, your Mac can arbitrarily move files to online-only, at which point Alfred no longer has access to them. This is why I highlighted first that Optimised Storage has to be disabled.

Before you try anything else, let's take syncing out of the equation. Please create an Alfred folder in your user directory (the same ~/ base folder where you have your Documents, Downloads, etc but not within any of those folders) then set Alfred's preferences to be stored in ~/Alfred/ from Alfred's Advanced preferences.

Once you've done this, your preferences will be stored locally so that you can see if you're seeing normal behaviour on that Mac. Let us know how you get on. :)

  16. @marfon Could you please check on your second Mac whether you have Optimised Storage disabled for iCloud? This is necessary in order for files to be available locally for Alfred to use.

When Optimised Storage is enabled, your Mac will arbitrarily offload some files to save space, which means they're online-only, resulting in the kind of error message you see.

You'll find more details about Optimised Storage here:

Now I don't have the error but snippets aren't working.

@zamboknee Could you please provide more details about what's not working with snippets?

    - Have you checked that Accessibility is granted to Alfred? Have you tried removing and re-adding Alfred to ensure macOS is "nudged" into seeing that you've granted it?

    - Do you always / sometimes see the red error message after a restart or does it only happen after using certain apps? (e.g. your browser)

    - If you launch TextEdit (a simple and native app, ideal for testing) and try to expand your snippet, what do you see? Does the keyword disappear, does the snippet content appear, do you hear an error beep?
    - If your snippet expands in TextEdit, in which apps do you see a different behaviour?
    - What is your snippet keyword? What is the content that should be pasted?

The more information you provide, the easier it'll be for me to help troubleshoot what's happening on your Mac :)
