Vero got a reaction from miq in Snippets mid-string expansion not working as expected
@miq Double characters is suitable in some cases but it isn't a foolproof solution; Choosing that option requires some thought and sometimes - as with your example - some exceptions. You might want to add some out-of-order capitals, for example.

Here's some insight into sequential snippets, using an example I use many times a day. We've created a huge snippet library of helpful support answers, links, code snippets, etc which we use to provide responses. I can then tailor the response, but it gives me a good starting foundation without typing til my fingers fall off.

For example, my response to someone who's emailed to recover their license:

Hi Andrew, "plS4" which expands to "No problem, please find below your Alfred 4 Powerpack license code:" [I paste their license code, which is already in my clipboard] "yen4" which expands to the explanation of where to download Alfred 4 "cV" which expands to  "Cheers, Vero"
Aside from "Hi Andrew,", I can write the entire email in 10 typed characters, plus pasting the license code: plS4⌘vyen4cV

Each snippet takes care of including the necessary trailing new lines to ensure I'm at the right place for the next sequential snippet I'm pasting.  While my snippets are short, they won't be accidentally triggered as they don't use a normal combination of letters I'm likely to type in everyday phrases.

Andrew describes your scenario as a corner case as it's the first time this issue has been raised, throughout the years since we released this feature. We are always listening to the community, and read every thread and email. If many users were encountering this issue, we would certainly consider providing solutions. However, for the time being, this would just complicate the text expansion settings further.

@peegeebee If by workflow, you're referring to the default web search for Google Translate, the URL structure was changed by Google a couple of days ago.

If you update to the Alfred 4.3.2 pre-release (by going to the Update tab, choosing "pre-releases" from the dropdown menu at the bottom and updating), you'll see that this URL has already been updated to reflect Google's change

@atsaloli Could you please keep threads on topic? This thread was originally about the lock command, not about custom searches. There's also no need to tag me specifically as there are many very knowledgeable forum members who can help with simple questions.

You can sync or back up your entire preferences:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/advanced/sync/

Alternatively, you can set up Time Machine as a backup, or manually copy the Alfred.alfredpreferences file from ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred/ to a location of your choice to back it up.

Vero got a reaction from workflowmaniac in Evernote Workflow 9 beta 4 (Alfred 4)
This is because the Evernote workflow is not getting any relevant results from Evernote.

This can be for a few reasons so check that:
You're using Evernote 7 from the legacy page on Evernote's site (https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052560314-Install-an-older-version-of-Evernote) as the new Evernote 10 is a black box and doesn't allow other apps to search its results Make sure you're using the right Evernote workflow version from the first post of this thread to match your version of Alfred and Evernote Once you've done this, when you type "ent" followed by a space, first, Evernote should launch in the background if it wasn't already open. Then you should see the first result as "Show in Evernote" with the subtext "Displaying 10 notes from xxx notes" before you even type anything else. This confirms that the workflow is working and has access to your notes.

Then as you start typing your query, the list of results should filter down to relevant ones.

Let me know how you get on  This is an excellent workflow I use a lot, but you have to have the right version, which is a little trickier now that Evernote have moved on to an Electron version for v10.

Vero got a reaction from zzzrx in Alfred cannot search within dropbox items
    @zzzrx Welcome to the forum.

Could you take a look at whether Smart Sync is enabled in Dropbox? https://help.dropbox.com/installs-integrations/sync-uploads/smart-sync

This is a feature where files aren't stored locally, and the local "files" are just markers for the cloud-stored files. If this is enabled, I can see why these results wouldn't be found as their metadata will be patchy. When the files are stored locally using Dropbox, they should have complete metadata.

If you hit an activation limit and are unable to activate any more, contact us and we'll be happy to help you

Fundamentally, with both license types, the key point is that the license is for one individual, not for sharing.

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in prevent spolight from certain location not work
@Alan He If you take a look at the subtext for Airdrop, it says "Open Airdrop in Finder", rather than jut the path as it would for Safari, etc. This is because Airdrop, like Finder, isn't listed there as an app, but added to Alfred's results by us.

As such, results like Airdrop and Finder can't be removed by excluding from the macOS index. There's no way to remove them, but we'll keep this in mind.

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in Mail.app search by author, subject or content [For macOS Mojave & earlier]
Thought I should share this workflow to search Mail.app

Use the following keywords to search:
emfrom to search the sender's name and email address em for a general subject + content search emsubj to search specifically for a subject line
You can download it here. Enjoy!

This version is suitable for both Alfred 3 and Alfred 4.

Compatible with macOS versions up to Mojave.  Unfortunately, due to some changes made by Apple in macOS Catalina, it's no longer possible for third-party apps to access your Mail data. This may change in the future, but currently, using this workflow in Catalina or Big Sur will not return any results.

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in file search
@Alan He The word "file" starts at a word boundary, so it's a relevant result.

Beyond that, Alfred uses a bunch of other factors, such as your knowledge (files you've opened before), so if you open the "typings" file a few times, Alfred will learn you're keener to have that file come up in the results at the top for that search term

Vero got a reaction from Kalaschnik in Show Full Title/Tooltip of the Name property within the Snippets Viewer
@Kalaschnik Given Alfred's primarily intended to be used from the keyboard, a hover-over would require moving from the keyboard, grabbing the mouse and hovering over the particular results.

Perhaps in your case, as you're not using the text auto-expansion feature, something like a List Filter workflow instead of snippets might be better suited. You can then have a title and subtext, and then have that paste text.

    Here's how List Filters work:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/workflows/inputs/list-filter/

Then connect a Copy to Clipboard utility to paste your argument to the frontmost app.

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in file search
@Abhishek Jain How are you searching for files?

Are you prefixing your search with the spacebar as I assume your general files aren't (and shouldn't be) in your default results?  I believe characters after a dash should be treated as a new word boundary by the macOS index (certainly seems to be in Big Sur)

Might be worth familiarising yourself with the spacebar shortcut:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/spacebar-trick/

Next, if you're still looking for a word that isn't the start of a word boundary, you can prefix the characters with a wildcard star, e.g. "[spacebar]*file".

Vero got a reaction from derBingle in Alphabetize the Features section in the preferences?
@derBingle Rather than manually go to the preferences to find your Snippets, just type "?snip" and press return to be taken directly to the Snippets preferences.

You can do this for any feature, and any workflow, etc in Alfred. You can also type "?keywords" for a list of your keywords or "?hotkeys" for a list of your hotkeys.

More info on using the question mark trick here:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/blog/tips-and-tricks/search-alfred-question-mark-trick/

Features are organised very intentionally by level of importance, grouping search related features (default search results, web searches, file search/actions) together, followed by built-in features like Bookmarks, Clipboard, Snippets, and onto simpler features like Calc and Dictionary, and finally third-party integration with 1Password and more minor preferences relating to System commands, Terminal, etc...

Putting 1Password or Calculator above the primary Default Search results wouldn't make sense just for the sake of alphabetisation

Vero got a reaction from kimillian in How to use Alfred to create functions?
@kimillian Do you need to see the output in Alfred? Or just results in any way? Because you can easily make a web search workflow with the keyword "daystoday" and a web search that opens Google with "how many days since {query}".

That way you can enter your date in any format, as Google accepts "20200103", "3rd Jan 2020", "last Friday", or any particular event like "Christmas", etc.

In fact, you could duplicate that set of objects and create another one looking ahead "how many days until..."

You can grab the workflow here:
