Vero reacted to Belfong in Spotify Mini Player: Control your Spotify library at your fingertips
One tip I'd like to share with new users here. It took me a few months to discover it. In Alfred, when we want to search for files, instead of launching app, you would press "space bar" and type the filename.

In Spotify Mini, after you press the Hotkey to launch it, press "space bar" and Alfred will display a list of commands such as Play/Pause, Next, Previous, Add to Playlist, Volume Up and Down, etc. You can then use arrow key to choose which command you want and press Enter. The more times the command is used, e.g. you press Play/Pause a lot of times, Alfred will auto sort it to the top of the line. This makes it VERY easy to use Spotify Mini without needing to remember the command.

    Try it!

Vero got a reaction from Miltrin in Snippet trigger does not work as a placeholder
    @Miltrin Welcome to the forum!

It's not possible to use a Snippet Trigger in a workflow embedded within a standard snippet due to their complex and open ended nature.

Think of Snippet Triggers in a workflow as a trigger to run a workflow to do anything at all, but from a typed phrase in any app. It just so happens that you can also paste this back to macOS using a Copy to Clipboard, essentially making a scripted snippet in your case.

To achieve what you'd like to do, set the snippet trigger to what you'd like to use (e.g. "nb" in your example), then place the "jrnl bujo -contains --change-time {query}" in the Paste to Clipboard output object.

It's also worth noting that you don't need the "Arg and Vars" object.

Let us know how you get on or if you need any further help with the workflow

Vero got a reaction from Ckdestef in Searching for Alias Folders
@Ckdestef Alfred isn't finding the folder? Or the aliases? And is the folder itself a "real" folder in that location, or an alias as well?

Your best bet is to drag the folder into Alfred's File Troubleshooter, which will give you some details on the metadata macOS has for the folder itself:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/

You can copy the output in your reply so that we can help you further.

Vero got a reaction from Jimmy Bosse in Workflow deleted when run.
@Jimmy Bosse It sounds like your preferences may no longer be where Alfred expects them to be, which can happen for a few reasons:
If you used an "app cleaner" on updating Alfred, the preferences may have been removed, so check your trash first If you've recently updated to Sonoma, check whether your sync folder location is still accurate, e.g. Dropbox and other services have moved their data in recent years, so re-set your sync folder if needed If the issue persists, please provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email this to our info@ email address so that I can help you further.

Could you give us a bit more details?
Did you download the workflow from the Alfred Gallery here? Or directly from GitHub? Could you open the Workflow Debugger and type the "wine" keyword into Alfred, then copy any errors or details from the debugger into your reply so that we can take a look? Once we know why the workflow's not running normally, we'll be able to help you resolve that.

Vero got a reaction from thayakorn in Clipboard Auto Paste on Return appears to not be working
@dkardell @mr-peanut I would suggest first removing and re-granting Alfred Accessibility permissions. If you also updated macOS around the same time, it may be that the permissions are no longer properly granted to Alfred.

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/getting-started/permissions/#regrant

Next, try the auto-paste in TextEdit to narrow down whether there really is a pasting issue, or whether it's the destination that's causing an issue.

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in Will Snippets work in RDP?
@PizzaGuyRidesAtDawn There are a few ways to work with the fact that you're using Windows. You're correct that pasting assumes Cmd + V will paste the current pasteboard content.

The simplest way to deal with this is to pop up Alfred's Snippets Viewer, choose your snippet and use Cmd + C to copy it to your clipboard, then Ctrl + V to paste to your VM.

I'm not familiar with Remote Desktop, but here are some steps I gave to a Parallels user some time ago, much of which would apply here:

However, this comes with the caveat that I do not have access to Remote Desktop to test it, so you'll likely need to fiddle around a little with your VM.

If all else fails, copying from the Snippet/Clipboard Viewer option will be your best option.

Let me know how you get on.

TinyPNG by @vitor : I use this one many times a day via a Universal Action to compress images.

I have a bunch of File Filters set up for various folders on my Mac, whether it's art/personal projects, Alfred stuff, etc... They're a great time saver once you set a scope and a few file types.

Yak Saver: I like using a pomodoro-like workflow to get me to focus on one project for 20 minutes, then take a break and so on.

Paste as plain text from hotkey is the simplest of tasks, but invaluable.

It's not the size of the workflow, it's what you do with it that matters!

@brookter Apologies, I misread your original post and can now see that something odd seems to be happening for you.

If I've understood correctly, in Alfred's default results, you choose Safari, press Enter and see the Recent Documents list? If so, that's not the expected behaviour. As you can imagine, using Enter should open the app.

Could you please provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email it to our info@ email address so that I can take a look at your Alfred configuration.

Please also let me know if you're using any third-party apps that might be remapping keys on your Mac.

As a temporary measure, you can disable Universal Actions by unchecking all of the Show Actions checkboxes under Features > Universal Actions > Show Actions.

Vero got a reaction from RusselFredson in How to give Alfred 4 full disk access on macOS High Sierra
@RusselFredson These file types are excluded from default results intentionally. If you're new to searching with Alfred, I'd recommend taking a look at this page, which will show you what keywords you can use to make a broader search using the "open" keyword (or spacebar shortcut):

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/features/file-search/#file-search

It's up to you whether you include documents and text files in your default results, but I'd suggest using the above instead, which keeps your default results tidier, allowing you to quickly launch apps, workflows and other more important actions

Vero got a reaction from paulw in Snippet expansion in Orion Browser
@paulw Could you try slowing down key events in Alfred's Snippets preferences? It may be that Orion is a slower browser, and needs more time between actions.

To do this, open your Alfred prefs > Features > Snippets > Auto-Expansion Options > Tweaking > Simulated key event speed. Set it to the slowest speed and see if the keyword is fully removed. If it is, speed up the key events until you get to a timing that still works for Orion without necessarily being the slowest.

Let me know how you get on  It might be worth adding this note to the Orion bug report if it sorts things out for you.

Vero got a reaction from Briscoe in How to create custom templates?
@Briscoe In that case, instead of using pre-fabs, create a full workflow and a category for all your Templates. The workflow can either be enabled to be used, or disabled, so it's just there as a reference to be copied later.

You can then duplicate it by right-clicking it when you need to make a new fully-configured workflow based on it.

Vero got a reaction from vitor in Alfred hotkey resets to default every restart
Alfred doesn't control how Dropbox stores files, and is agnostic to the storage location. The issue will be down to Dropbox or macOS either not allowing preferences to be saved, or Dropbox making the preferences non-available at startup due to your particular configuration.

Aside from making sure the files are stored offline and the location available instantly at startup, you could try creating a new folder in Dropbox and setting this up as a sync location to see if a new folder might be free from permissions issues.

You can also use this brand new workflow to back up your Alfred preferences to save any worries in the future:

This issue happens when the app you're pasting to is slower than expected. You can slow down Alfred's key events so that he waits a little bit before pasting the snippet.

To do this, set the Simulated key event speed to the left, then speed it up until you find it works in Chrome:

Vero reacted to Stephen_C in Save 'ur URL
Save a selected URL to a text file (appending if the file exists)

    Introduction
Sometimes when browsing you want to save a URL quickly for future reference without creating a bookmark in your browser. That is what this workflow does. For simplicity it uses a simple plain text file (which will be created for you if it doesn't already exist) to which saved URLs will be appended. You select the location folder for that file in the workflow configuration.

    Usage
Using your Universal Action hotkey on a selected URL, select Save URL to links file from the list and press ⏎.

You will then be prompted for a description of the URL (which may be a useful reminder). Type the description and press ⏎. If you wish you can leave the description blank by simply pressing ⏎.

The result will be a text file (which you can open in your default text file editor—I'm using CotEditor here and added the "Saved links” heading manually when creating the file):

    Notes
    1. In the workflow configuration you can choose the keyword you wish to use to open the Links.txt file.
    2. If (quite understandably 😀) you loathe the sound effect you can, of course, mute it in the workflow configuration.

    Usage

Convert HEIC images to JPEG via the Universal Action.

Alternatively, find images with the heicjpeg keyword.

JPEGs are saved to the Save Folder set in the Workflow’s Configuration but you can imediatelly move them to another destination by choosing Move to New Location in the After Conversion configuration. Other options include showing a notification, revealing files in the Finder, and appending to the File Buffer.

The workflow will avoid overwriting any existing files, opting to stop rather than replace data.

Vero got a reaction from Dominik Mayer in Files not found after migration
@Dominik Mayer Welcome to the forum

As @Stephen_C highlights, this is an issue caused by the macOS Migration Assistant, where paths from the previous Mac/macOS version are not correctly set on the new Mac. Using the broader scope is one workaround, but most users find this resolves after a deep reindex (Step 6 here) or over a period of time where macOS naturally rebuilds the index and likely works past the legacy paths that were migrated.

This is a known issue in macOS Ventura - essentially an unfinished feature by Apple - where only some of the System Settings are accessible by search, and some open the incorrect Settings panel.
