@Vero Thank you for your response. Jes I prefere Z to A because my data system uses a date in every folder name. 230629-ABC for example. And I like to have the newer folders on top for easy access.

Your solution is perfect. I even have a ton of Browse Via Alfred actions that I use to get to specific locations, and I never saw that there is an option for custom sorting. Perfect for my use. Thank you very much. This helps a lot!

@GatorMapi Have you played with File Filters yet? You can either set a file filter with pre-defined options like file types, scopes, date range, etc... or you can use one where you set the scope dynamically if you often change location.

Here's the Simple Folder Search, which is set to only search for the Folder type:
    https://alfred.app/workflows/alfredapp/simple-folder-search/

And the Dynamic File Filter, where you can choose a folder, then search within that scope only:
    https://alfred.app/workflows/alfredapp/dynamic-file-search/

You'll find more details about File Filters here too:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/workflows/inputs/file-filter/

Vero got a reaction from rob213 in how to restrict Dynamic File Search by @vero to subfolders
@rob213 To do this, first duplicate the workflow (so that the bundle ID is removed, ensuring that next time we update that workflow, it doesn't overwrite yours). I'd recommend changing the workflow name - and keyword if you wish - to make sure it doesn't cause confusion later

Next, take a look at the workflow objects - the one you want to edit is the third object titled "Search for files".

Double-click the third object to open the configuration and you'll see that the File Types section is empty. If you drag in a folder, you'll then narrow down the filtering to only showing you folders. Change the title to "Search for subfolders" and save your changes, and you're done!

Vero got a reaction from DonMoe in Open Contacts App from Alfred
    Hi Jim,

If you never want to open the contacts in Alfred, go to Alfred's Preferences, under Features > Contacts, just uncheck the box that says "Open Contacts in Alfred" and the contact will automatically open in the Contacts app itself.

If alternatively, you just want to sometimes open in Contacts and sometimes in Alfred, leave the box above ticked. Instead of pressing the return key when you find your contact, do Cmd + O to open it in Contacts app

    Cheers,
    Vero

@dwdblogger Taking a look at your Features > Web Bookmarks preferences, is Google Chrome Bookmarks ticked and (if relevant) is the correct user profile selected?

Please also check that Alfred has Full Disk Access (and follow the instructions to re-grant them if he already appears to have them as macOS sometimes needs these to be refreshed):

Vero got a reaction from Alan He in Snippets conflict with CopyPaste Pro
Hi @Emyr Welcome to the forum

It seems you've already identified CopyPaste Pro is interfering with Alfred. Alfred uses the macOS clipboard for snippets, so if another app is manipulating the clipboard outside of Alfred's control, naturally this will have an effect.

You could try slowing down keypresses in Alfred's Snippets preferences under the cog in the top right > Tweaking > "Slow down simulated key events", or there may be an option in CopyPaste Pro that allows you to stop it from interfering with the clipboard.

Vero reacted to Irret in Importing settings from Alfred 4 to 5
Thank you for the link about local storage @Stephen_C! That directory is local right now and I've marked it as "make available offline" - seems that's the way to have Dropbox not every smart sync it to the cloud, I'll have to do more reading on that. Great tip!

Setting the sync directory under the "Advanced" panel in Alfred 5 got all my settings sync'd up exactly the way I needed them. 🎉 I'm not sure why I thought there would be a bunch of setting that I'd need to manually move around.

Appreciate both of y'all help here. Alfred 5 seems to be working great on both of my machines now; I'll give it a couple weeks to settle in before I delete Alfred 4 using the instructions @Vero shared in this comment when I'm ready to call the upgrade complete. ✅

Vero got a reaction from Irret in Importing settings from Alfred 4 to 5
@Irret There's no need to worry - just set your sync location for Alfred 5 to the location where your Alfred 4 preferences are stored. The local settings will also be used.

Just ensure that when you're ready to remove Alfred 4 from your Mac, you simply drag Alfred 4 from the Applications folder to Trash, rather than using any uninstaller/app cleaner apps, as the preferences will be needed by Alfred 5

Vero got a reaction from kimillian in Making a workflow collecting multiple variants from the input
@kimillian Here's a fun example workflow to take a look at where you enter the height and width at once, which are then split into two variables to create a URL:
    https://alfred.app/workflows/alfredapp/placeholder-images/

It uses the Split Arg utility mentioned by @Stephen_C

    Usage

Open the URL to a placeholder image on placekitten via the kitten keyword. By default the width and height are separated by a comma, but you can change it in the Workflow’s Configuration.

Open an image from placebear with the bear keyword.

Vero got a reaction from asteryou in Exporting my settings from old Mac / Alfred 4 to new Mac Alfred 5
    @asteryou Welcome to the forum

As a simpler one-off way to transfer your preferences from one Mac to another, you can copy your Alfred.alfredpreferences package from one of two locations:
If you're not currently syncing your preferences, you'll find them in the default location, which is ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred/ If you have set up your sync location in the past, you'll find the package in your sync location - you can confirm this by looking in the Advanced preferences Note that you'll need to activate your Powerpack license manually on your new Mac, even if you copy your preferences over. Once you've done this, you'll have access to your Powerpack features again. Let us know how you get on!

Vero got a reaction from rob213 in is it possible to backup (ie one shot export) Alfred settings (as opposed to sync) ?
    @rob213 Here's what we recommend:
Keep a Time Machine backup (or similar incremental backup) of your Mac so that you can revert to a particular point in time if needed If you'd like to sync, use a service that reliably maintains incremental backups too for additional safety. If all you want to do is copy your preferences from one location to another and you're not syncing, you'll find the Alfred.alfredpreferences bundle here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Alfred/

If you use syncing, you'll find the Alfred.alfredpreferences bundle in your sync location.

Keep in mind that when copying your preferences to a new Mac, you'll still need to manually activate your Powerpack and set a few locally-stored preferences (e.g. Clipboard can be enabled on one Mac, but not another) for which you can find details here:
    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/advanced/sync/#not-synced

Vero got a reaction from thayakorn in Clipboard Auto Paste on Return appears to not be working
@dkardell @mr-peanut I would suggest first removing and re-granting Alfred Accessibility permissions. If you also updated macOS around the same time, it may be that the permissions are no longer properly granted to Alfred.

    https://www.alfredapp.com/help/getting-started/permissions/#regrant

Next, try the auto-paste in TextEdit to narrow down whether there really is a pasting issue, or whether it's the destination that's causing an issue.

Here's the Calendar search I use for Apple's own Calendar:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/aa2y8morc97k5r3/Calendar search.alfredworkflow?dl=0

Type "cal" followed by the name of your calendar entry to see the results in Alfred, e.g. "cal dentist"

As I'm not familiar with BusyCal, you may need to tweak the workflow, but if it just uses the Calendar app's data without modifying it, it should just work out of the box

@timurray2000 Thanks for the video, as I can see that the behaviour issues you're seeing appear to be specific to Spotlight, correct?

To see why Spotlight is using non-standard behaviour, follow these steps:
Type just the & character, then wait a moment for Spotlight to show you a search result Press backspace once Can you see that you're not deleting the character you've just typed, but rather the additional subtext/result Spotlight has added to the field? When the typed text is manipulated like this, it's outside of Alfred's control.

Could I suggest using an Alfred File Filter workflow to search for folders (and any other file types) instead of using Spotlight?

Here's the Simple Folder Search workflow as a starting point.

Vero got a reaction from Rachelle in how to delete alfred 4 when 2 versions (4 and 5) installed ?
@rob213 Make sure that Alfred 4 is quit, then drag the app from your Applications folder in Finder to Trash.

Don't delete application support folders or use an app cleaner, as this data is still needed and used by Alfred 5.
