    Hi all,

Just to update you, we have this in hand. We've been directly chatting with Dave at 1Pwd and we not only have a 1Password 8 integration in the works, but also have some good ideas for deeper integration

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Pssst, just to let you know, Alfred 4.1 will be getting a {snippet:} placeholder to nest a snippet

With the new features in Alfred Snippets, I'm considering consolidating all my snippets from aText into Alfred.  One feature that I use often in aText is the ability to embed a snippet inside another snippet expansion. This allows me to treat smaller snippets as variables that can be reused in other larger snippets.

Is this possible with Alfred's Snippets?

    1. In my never-ending quest to shoehorn ever more snippet functionality into Alfred, I'd love (at least the option of) a Date Modified column in the Snippets list in Preferences – I live and die by Alfred snippets in my (email-based customer support) day job (lots of boilerplate text and instructions/fixes for common issues), and being able to more easily surface old (and potentially stale) snippets would be a big boon. I can fudge this by exporting/renaming to .zip/unzipping/checking modification dates, but having this right within the app would be better still!

    2. While I'm dreaming, I'd also love per-snippet usage statistics (perhaps across a given time period – you've used this X times this week/month/since creating it) – both for the coolness factor (quantified self foreverrrrrrr!) but more usefully for the purposes of seeing what snippets I most frequently use (and should concentrate on making sure are most polished).

    3. A tiny one – the snippet browser shows Keyword '' (empty quotation marks) for a given snippet when no typed keyword is set, which offends my delicate aesthetic sensibilities – would love to just have this not displayed in such cases.

(Turned into a three-in-one-request, but at least all thematically linked – sorry!)

@tullyhansen Alfred has legacy support for older 1Password versions, so this could be down to misidentification of the 1Password version you're using, as if Alfred sees you as using 1Password 7, then the newer style URL scheme should be used.

Alfred extracts the CFBundleShortVersionString in 1Password's package and I'm guessing that "7.2.2.BETA-3" might possibly be causing a misidentification if 1Password is using the CFBundleShortVersionString instead of the CFBundleVersion for this value.

FWIW, Apple define this as the following, which doesn't include string text such as BETA:

I'll take a deeper look into this later today.

Note: It could ALSO be that you have lots of older versions of 1Password on your Mac which are being seen as the valid version of 1Password to use.

    Cheers,
    Andrew

tullyhansen reacted to Andrew in Alfred 3.7 BETA for Mojave Beta 4+
A few things changed in macOS Mojave Beta 4 which has meant a change in the way Alfred will be dealing with macOS Accessibility access and general permissions. In Alfred 3.6.2 and before, Alfred separated the permissions into a helper app called Alfred Text Service, but since Beta 4, it seems like macOS doesn't like two apps within the same package and same signature (Alfred 3 / Alfred Text Service) from sharing accessibility access - This is likely a bug in Mojave.

Nevertheless, since Mojave now also requires accessibility permissions to simulate key events (Which Alfred uses quite considerably for clipboard integration, workflows, file actions), it makes sense to now consolidate Alfred Text Service into Alfred's core and make Alfred the only app which requires accessibility access.

When you launch Alfred 3.7 for the first time, if you haven't already granted Alfred 3 accessibility access, you'll be shown this dialog:

Select "Let's get started..." and tick Alfred 3 to have accessibility access. Alfred will then restart himself and automation / text expansion should work as expected

Here is an early beta version of Alfred 3.7:
[LINK REMOVED, Alfred 3.7 pre-release is now available from Alfred's update tab]

NOTE: If things still aren't working as expected, quit Alfred then open the macOS Security & Privacy > Accessibility preferences. Remove both Alfred 3 and Alfred Text Service, then restart your Mac. Run Alfred and you should get this dialog above.

Let me know how you get on!

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Just came back to give this a loving bump (as I go to update hard-coded URLs in older snippets after a domain change) – would love nested snippets (within snippets interface itself) to get a look-in whenever possible! Keep up the great work regardless. ❤️ (realising after posting that this likely isn't the right category to be considered a feature request… ?)

Actually I'm blown away by how much more powerful Alfred is than TE, thanks to the ability to use script filters in snippets.

Just chiming in here to say I came looking for info on whether Alfred could do exactly this sort of snippet nesting, and I'm excited to here it's coming down the line – eagerly refreshing the beta Update tab now! (Congrats on getting 3.5 out the door, too!)

tullyhansen reacted to Vero in Snippet Search Only Looks At Name & Keyword?
    Hi there,

In the Clipboard/Snippets viewer, Alfred searches name and keyword by design to keep things tidy and make it easy to find the right snippet without having to type much.

In Alfred's Snippets preferences, we're considering expanding the search box to search all collections at once, rather than the specific selected one, and including the snippet content in the search. Keep an eye on upcoming updates for this

@Ryan McGeary That's a great example, and confirms I'd understood your original suggestion perfectly. We actually have a ticket to look at exactly this for a future release.

I just didn't articulate this as well as I could've done, and was providing suggestions of how you can do something similar using the already-available features in the meantime

Keep an eye out for upcoming releases!

tullyhansen reacted to jona in Recently used files by an macOS App [Alfred 3]
    Hi everyone,

I created a workflow to work with the macOS recently used files system. It's essentially the same function like Alfreds "left arrow key"-Gesture to navigate to the recently used files by an App… but without the arrow key and the items appear directly on the keyword/name of the application. ;-)
You can also filter down the results using text input.

After installing the Workflow you need to configure the Apps you want it to work with yourself. As Examples I included a few Apps, like TextEdit, MindNode and iA Writer.

You can download the Workflow here: https://github.com/stroebjo/alfred-recent/releases

    Hope it's useful to someone.
    Any feedback is appreciated!

    @tullyhansen Welcome to the forum

Items are copied to Alfred's clipboard if:
They're not from an ignored app (see Features > Clipboard > Advanced) They're not marked as transient data or ConcealedType by the app (e.g. when passwords are copied from a password app) I'm not that familiar with Fluid, but check for either of the points above.  Whether or not the app has no dock icon doesn't make a difference.

You may also want to update to Alfred 3.4.1 pre-release, which you can grab by going to the Update tab and choosing "pre-releases" at the bottom. Once you've done this, go to Clipboard > Advanced and uncheck "Ignore clipboard data marked as Concealed" to test whether this allows you to copy from Fluid, in case Fluid is wholesale marking its data as ConcealedType for some reason.

    Cheers,
    Vero
