Unless you enabled it, Alfred doesn't show files in its default results. Use the 'open' keyword to find files, or press the Spacebar before typing the filename.

    Thank you.

I must say, that's a surprising revelation that Alfred doesn't show files in its default results.  Counterintuitive to say the least.  What are people searching for if not files?

I also just noticed there is a "find" keyword as well which also shows the Kenpo X file if I use it and matches what I expect a search dialog to do, which is search for files.

Thanks for the help, I'll have to make a note of that as it's very strange behavior to my brain.

@wealthychef It's possible that it's a matching result but there are so many that it's further down the list.

    Hi, thanks for the reply!

This is not possible actually, as the shown items are the exhaustive list.  I know this because I cannot scroll down like I can when the list is in fact longer.

The rest of your answer does not seem to address my question.  I don't want to narrow my search, I want to know why my file does not show up.

Look at what happens when I search for the full file name, I get zero results.  These names are copy/pasted from the Finder, so I know it's the correct name, and by the test I ran, I know the file exists.

  3. This happens all the time to me.

I am trying to open a known file on my disk.  It's located at "/Volumes/2_TB_SSD_external/Projects_2TB/fun/sports/exercise and fitness/Strength training/Beach Body/P90X/P90X workout videos/P90X 06 - Kenpo X.mp4".  I want to avoid pawing through folders and just use Alfred to open it.

When I type "Kenpo X" into the Alfred search, I get a bunch of irrelevant results and this file never shows up.

I ran the diagnostics (see below) and it says this file should be in its scope.

So why is it not showing up in results?  Any help?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello,

I'm trying to add Evernote to my search result.  I found this:  https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/evernote/  which mentions two locations to add to my search path.

Neither one exists on my mac.

    rcook@Richs-iMac (~ ): ls ~/Library/Containers/com.evernote.Evernote/
ls: /Users/rcook/Library/Containers/com.evernote.Evernote/: No such file or directory
    rcook@Richs-iMac (~ ): ls ~/Library/CoreData/com.evernote.Evernote
ls: /Users/rcook/Library/CoreData/com.evernote.Evernote: No such file or directory

Is there an updated set of instructions available?

Thanks in advance for the help!

    (btw black lives matter)

@wealthychef Yes, Alfred is fully Catalina-ready.

Which build of Catalina are you using? Apple are releasing regular builds, and I believe the Catalina GM (final release before general release to the public) was released a few days ago. You should make sure you're on the latest, and let us know exactly which build. :)

When typing "reload" in Alfred, you should see the following:

    Screen Shot 2019-10-07 at 15.33.12.png

You can also clear the app cache by going to Alfred's Advanced > Files/Apps "Clear Application Cache" in the top left.

    Cheers,
    Vero

Here's what it looks like for me:

@wealthychef Type "reload" into Alfred to refresh the app cache first. If the issue is with Alfred having cached the old and new location, that'll resolve it.

If you still see two at that point, then macOS may have got itself into a more serious muddle, and is actually providing duplicate results to Alfred.

Which version of Alfred and which macOS build are you using?

    Cheers,
    Vero

I'm running Catalina, I should have mentioned that, probably means all bets are off now that I think of it.  Maybe it's the OS.

Is Alfred Catalina friendly?  I'm running Alfred 4.0.4 (1711)

When I type "reload" it just finds The Matrix Reloaded on my hard drive. 😜

  7. Every time I search for an app that I have installed, Alfred finds it in multiple places.  Is this an artifact of some new file system etc?  Because I also see a duplication of some disk information in my Disk Utility.  What's up?  Thanks for any help!

  8. I'm getting the following error when trying to find an app on my hard drive.  I use the Alfred interface, push the command key down and click on the app.  This should reveal the app in the Finder.   Instead, I get a dialog, hidden behind Alfred, so it makes it look like Alfred is hung, because I can't see it and cannot interact with the front window of Alfred.

I'd upload a screen shot but your forum won't let me.  So here is a movie on youtube:  https://youtu.be/4Hkjp-Eop4s which shows the problem in all its glory.  The dialog behind Alfred forces Alfred to hang.  If I didn't have multiple desktops I'd be screwed here.

  9. When I search for known files in Alfred, it fails to find them, as you can see in this image comparing Alfred's results with the Finder's results of a search for "yoga".   The movies exist on an external drive, called /Volumes/2TB\ SSD\ encrypted/

I have added this volume to the Alfred preferences to be searched.  I have reindexed the drive with the movies that Alfred does not see.

    What is going on?

    Thanks
