  1. Thanks so much. The troubleshooting is very useful. It is just difficult for non programmers to deal with any issues during installation of Xcode, home-brew and python as they appear if attempted through terminal without automatic package installers. Thank you very much for the clear answers and tips. It helped a lot!
  2. Thanks a lot! I am not a programmer and I had major major major issues to walk though the steps of troubleshooting the whole Xcode home-brew python situation. In essence this is all Chinese to me. Somehow ChatFred is working now despite I never got Homebrew installed correctly and Python does not respond in terminal yet I installed it with an installer from the python website. ChatFred works. A few questions: 1) Is there a way to significantly reduce the time of "ChatGPT is thinking" ? When using ChatGPT through the web portal it responds much much quicker (yes it does the very annoying "type along thing" that makes using it quickly a bit inefficient and hard to read) but overall it seems more responsive. Is this an unavoidable issue with the Alfred workflow or can I do something to make it more responsive? 2) Can the type be user adjusted? It is veeery large. 3) How can I copy and paste from the output window? I am not using ChatGPT at all for just informational reading as of its unreliable nature (I rather use search engines for that) but I like ChatGPT to create scripts but I cannot copy content from the ChatFred output - it just disappears. Ideally I could just CMD+A and CMD+C to mark all output and copy to clipboard to be able to paste and edit it in a text editor right away. That would be very useful. 4) Is there a way to mirror the nice formatting of text in scripts as it appears in the ChatGPT web interface? ChatFred outputs only unformatted text (one type and one color without visual formatting of scripts). 5) Alfred is my major tool to interact with MacOS (I prefer to use Alfred to launch apps, start web searches, …). While ChatFred is busy Alfred is inaccessible. Is there a way to have ChatFred operate "in the background" and still be able to use Alfred normally while waiting for ChatGPT to output?
  3. thank you very much. I will go through the troubleshooting step by step today and will report back.
  4. I am not able to get this to work. I type "CF joke" and Alfred is stuck at displaying "ChatFred loading" Nothing happens. I have installed the latest version 1.4 of the workflow and have inserted my ChatGPT API key as instructed. ChatGPT web works for my account. What am I doing wrong?
  5. Thank you for sharing this Jason. I am sure some of the Alfred power users who know their way around workflows and scripts will find this very helpful. Unfortunately I do not understand how to set this up or use it. It would be really really nice if such an important feature would be integrated into Alfred outright. For example when using Alfred I have all these completely redundant (to me) search options like searching on youtube, wikipedia, duckduckgo, … all of them nicely presented with an icon and a short description and I could just scroll down with the cursor key and hit enter to use them. The problem is … I never ever ever even once need those ever. But I do hundreds of Finder searches on every single workday, … hundreds of them. It would be great if I could initiate this through Alfred which I use to pretty much initiate 90% of my workflows in MacOS with. For me the problem is that my brain just does not retain the optional modifier key finder search as described above by Vero. It's great that this is a feature but it just does not work for me. I always forget and I keep already so many many keyboard shortcuts in my head. I just want the finder search to be there in Alfred as it is such an important and fundamental thing to have. Alfred has become over the years a complete spotlight replacement for me. Everything I used to do with Spotlight I do now with finder as of some added workflows that are not available in Spotlight. Search in Finder is one of the last features Spotlight has as it is such an important and fundamental feature but it is missing in Alfred 😞 Today I finally upgraded to Alfred 5 in hopes that this would be perhaps a newly added feature 😞 That's all I want, just like in spotlight (and perhaps an option to modify which of the optional searches is presented in which order in Alfred as some may search more on the web and others perhaps more in Finder:
  6. I have this scenario currently: I use a secure messaging app on iPhone a lot. I find myself having to share things into that messaging app from diverse sources for example: - iOS music app, current title playing, - iOS Safari weblink - iOS last taken screenshot - iOS last taken photo - Mac OS file - Mac OS Safari weblink - Mac OS screenshot … I find the current workflow of having to jump hoops to share anything from Mac OS to iOS extremely cumbersome (right click, share menu, AirDrop, wake up phone, then having to actually repeat the share process and share it into the secure messaging app, … ) This is very cumbersome if done regularly What I see is ideally a workflow that will: - invoke an Alfred Workflow simply by opening Alfred, typing "share" - choosing perhaps one of a few options like (share to iPhone, share to iPhone messaging app, … the list would be editable and essentially replacing the cumbersome mouse only invoked Mac OS share context menu which I dislike so much) - the workflow then shares the content say to my iPhone and invokes automatically the iOS share menu with the correct app already pre-chosen This way I could research content on my Mac which is way more efficient then doing on the phone but can quickly share the content with the iOS based secure messaging app. Is this possible?
  7. Did the results I posted above help any to figure out any details? Here is something else really strange - Today out of curiosity I used DV again on one short Youtube clip and it worked flawlessly again !!! I did not do any changes to the OS - I may or may not have done an OS update if there were any since the issue occurred. The only changes I have done to the Mac were installing Scrivener and a couple of updates to Rhino3D, that's it. I am very confused. Did DV do any autoupdate to a fixed version perhaps? In any case I love the fact it works again … for now 😉
  8. I do not see any other issues with the OS other apps or the hardware. This is my daily working machine I have in use since about half a year (before that I had another MacBook Pro). I am on the latest Mac OS. I really don't use other Alfred workflows. This is pretty much the only one (I liked how you can download Youtube videos and watch them later offline as the internet connection here really doesn't suit the streaming Youtube uses to be able to watch videos in proper quality).
  9. steps: 1) open youtube page 2) CMD+L3) CMD+C 4) open Alfred 5) type "DV" 6) select "Download Video" 7) hit "Enter" 😎Nothing happens 9) type "DV" 10) select "DownVid Progress" 11) message is "No download in progress" Here is the log: Start of log: [01:17:42.417] Logging Started... older workflow (with the steps as described above as I always have used them). Sometime ago with Alfred 3 and workflow updates everything broke 😞 Updating to Alfred 4 and installing the latest workflow did not help 😞
  10. Thank you for the earlier suggestions to fix the workflow for me. Unfortunately the workflow does not work at all now for me 😞 I have in the meantime updated to Alfred4 and have installed the latest the version of the workflow. The workflow does not do anything 😞 After having started the workflow on a youtube page and then checking the download progress after a while the only message I see is "there is no download in progress" Is there anything I do wrong? Here is a YouTube example link where the download does not work for me:
  11. Thank you very much, this fixed my problem. It would be nice if these versions would stay available and easily findable.
  12. What can people do who run Alfred v3 and accidentally have confirmed the autoupdate of DownVid 😞 Now DownVid is not working and I cannot seem to find a link to the last Alfred 3 compatible version 😞
  13. Yes, I am aware of this feature but for some reason I just cannot get this into my brain 😞 It would be just soooooo easy if I could add this function as a fallback search as these don't rely on a specific shortcut but I can just use the curser, hit enter and be done. I find myself recently actually using spotlight instead as spotlight finds those finder files directly and displays them in a neat way. I wish I could add "find file in finder" as another fallback search.
  14. Currently whenever I want to search for a file on my Mac I rather do not use Alfred (which I use for EVERYTHING else) but I have to open a new finder window, hit CMD + F and type my query in the little spotlight window in Finder. I then refine the search by adding filters. I really would like to simplify this by adding a "SEARCH in FINDER" option to fallback searches (which I love and use all the time). How can I add this option to fallback searches?
  15. I have the same problem since recently 😞 Some youtube links do not work any longer with DownVid. I have no idea of the cause.
  16. Hey Vero, thanks so much for fixing this ;-) I have some operations running on the Mac, so I cannot do the spotlight rebuilt just now but doing a cache rebuilt in Alfred immediately solved the duplicate search results. I will do the spotlight index rebuilt once the Mac is finished. Thanks for your help!
  17. Here is a quick feedback after having this specific issue repaired: I completely wiped all installed workflows and installed them one by one again. This issue was fixed in the process ;-) Thanks for your help guys!
  18. Hey guys, I have an issue with Alfred since awhile that is strange. 1) Alfred does not find ANYTHING that I haven't searched first with OS X Spotlight. 2) Anything Alfred actually finds will be listed over and over and over in a long list of identical items: How can I solve both these issues without loosing all my settings for Alfred and the workflows I have installed and customized ?
  19. Hey, thanks for the link, I will check it out ;-) So far the closest I get is: Automator workflow saved as app does (this I have linked to a quick Alfred workflow that simply starts the automator workflow app upon a keyword): - save all email attachments of the selected mail to the desktop - create a folder on the desktop I have to: - manually print the mail as pdf to the desktop - move all items into the folder - rename the folder to the appropriate time of the email and subject line I just could not find any way to extract the emails date and hand that info over to rename the folder - this alone would be of great help already. Is there ANY WAY you guys know how I could initiate the menu command "Export as PDF …" from mail.app within the Alfred workflow? This alone would bring me so much closer to my goal of automation and I only would be left to properly rename the folder and move the files.
  20. I would love to create a workflow to automate the following steps but I have no idea how to go about it and would love to get some help to find a basis to start from: 1) select email in mail.app 2) invoke Alfred 3) type keyword "email to desktop" 4) workflow creates new folder on desktop and rename folder to date of selected email in mail.app + mail subject line (format "2017-12-21 1045 subject line") 5) workflow prints selected email to pdf 6) workflow saves all email attachment files into the same folder RESULT: - one new folder on the desktop, named to the exact date of the original email and including the email as pdf and all email attachments - when selecting multiple emails, each email should result in their own individual folder so that bulk archival is possible I currently do all this manually for every single project related mail - it gets tiring :-( I have basic knowledge how to modify Alfred workflows. I have unfortunately no knowledge about Apple Script :-( In the past I have built myself many Automator Workflows but I cannot get anywhere with Automator regarding this it seems.
  21. Hey Vero, Thanks for your help! I did what you suggested. I always repair permissions on a regular basis using Onyx (among other regulars maintenance and service). Just to be save, I redid the permission repair today again and then tried your suggestion of "re-sorting" the hierarchy of search results using the search for a regular item. It was successful, so it seems that the underlying learning of search behavior does work as designed - yay! I tried to do the same with the workflow item I was using and it did not work unfortunately :-( iDVD.app and DVDplayer.app still show up ahead of the DownloadVid workflow. Do you have any further suggestions?
  22. Since a few weeks (I believe after updating Alfred) I have a major issue with searching with Alfred. In the past Alfred used to learn my search patterns so after using it for a while it often was enough to simply type the first one or two letters of an item for Alfred to list search results in most used order. Items I would search and use a lot would always be at the very top of the list. This feature is broken for me and makes the Alfred search pretty much useless to me now :-( Example: I do download regularly Youtube videos to watch later when on the road and not having a internet connection. For this I use a Alfred Workflow "DownVid". To download a Youtube video I would simply: - copy the web URL to the clipboard - invoke Alfred - type "DV" (often just typing "D" would have sufficed) … and Alfred would list search results As I would use this workflow invoked by typing "D" or "DV" much more often then any other search starting with the letter D, Alfred would place the DownVid workflow right at the very top of the list, so I only would have to hit "ENTER" to start the workflow. Since the search is broken, this workflow is listed way down a list of to me completely useless search results. Among them is the "iDVD.app" or the "DVDPlayer.app" which I both never, ever even once have searched for or opened :-( I have scoured the Alfred preferences, have reset Alfred, have deleted the Alfred cache, have repaired permissions, have rebuilt spotlight indexes (using Onyx), … all to no avail. At current Alfred is useless to me as every search I attempt takes so much longer time and I keep making mistakes, accidentally selecting items I do not want. Please help (I hope it is just one single silly setting I am missing)!
