  1. Just updated my 2021 M1 MacBookPro from Ventura to Sonoma 14.1 - Alfred is up-to-date @ 5.1.4

In the past, I've been able to invoke Alfred by using the Hotkey very quickly after startup.

However, with Sonoma, once the desktop appears, I have to wait a considerably longer time before I can start using Alfred.

It's not minutes longer, but I like to get started doing whatever I want to do after restart and not used to having to wait for it 🙂

I have a modest number of login items, EtreCheck not reporting issues, etc.

I've restarted about 20 times since updating to Sonoma, but still the same behavior.

Is there a way to force Alfred to load earlier in the boot process?

  2. Hi @smirky

Workflow is working fine (I deleted Parallels)

However, I would like to trigger it using an Alfred Keyword instead of the function key.

I added a keyword trigger, but its not working.

Is this possible? How should I configure the keyword trigger (I'm not an Alfred expert)

    Thank you,

    Matthew

  3. @Stephen_C Hi Stephen, I'm the OP of the thread that set this in motion.

Really grateful to you and @sepulchra for making this!!!

It didn't work at first, but I saw in the debugger:

[16:50:58.025] ERROR: Move to new folder[Automation Task] Task not found 'com.alfredapp.automation.core/files-and-folders/directory.new'

I looked at the workflow and the Automation Task said "Automation Not Found" (or words to that effect). I clicked on it and my Automation Task list was empty. I clicked Update Tasks and it populated with all the tasks (guess I never used Automation Tasks before!).

    It's working fine now.

Thanks again. What a great community!

  4. OP here.

I see I have stirred up a flurry of interest. Really appreciated.

    Here is my ideal workflow:

I often have incoming files in my Download folder or Desktop that I want to put away in various folders.

Alfred's Universal File Action "Move to..." makes this quick and easy.

However, sometimes I need to create a new folder inside an existing one. For example, I have income research papers that I put into a "Research" folder, but I would like to be able to create a sub-folder inside of "Research" on-the-fly, and move the file into that new folder.

Although I frequently need this inside my "Research" folder, I would like to be able to do this inside ANY existing folder, rather than having to setup an action/workflow/script that only allowed this operation inside of previously determined folders.

I was hoping the original workflow I mentioned (https://www.deanishe.net/post/2019/06/workflow-new-directory-with-selection/) would do the trick, but even after editing the python file, I cannot get this to work, and I have not heard back from the developer (admittedly it was only two days ago, so he may well answer.)

Seems this would be a VERY helpful action for other users as well.

I'm not a coder, so limited ability to modify scripts etc, but grateful for whatever solutions you may come up with.

    Thank you.

  5. I frequently need to create a new folder when using Alfred's "Move to..." Action.

Is there a way to have Alfred create the new folder when using the Action?

Note: I found an older Alfred 3.0 workflow here: https://www.deanishe.net/post/2019/06/workflow-new-directory-with-selection/

But it does not seem to work on Alfred 5.0.6 under macOS 13.3.1

    I get the following error:

    Quote

Reason: Couldn't posix spawn: error 2

The external script may not exist, or doesn't have execute (+×) permissions.

    Grateful for any help.

  6. Hi,

I obtained the API from https://free.currencyconverterapi.com/free-api-key

I entered the API into the appropriate "VALUE" field per your instructions above.

However, when I try to use the workflow, I get the following error message:

Error: invalid API key given in Alfred Preferences

I tried obtaining a different API using a different email address, but same problem.

    The debugger shows the following

[08:41:41.015] Ultimate Currency Converter[Script Filter] Queuing argument ''

[08:41:41.697] Ultimate Currency Converter[Script Filter] Script with argv '(null)' finished

    [08:41:41.700] Ultimate Currency Converter[Script Filter] {"items": [{"title":"Error: invalid API key given in Alfred Preferences","subtitle":"Hint: please edit Workflow Environment Variables in Alfred Preferences.","valid":false,"icon":{"path":"icon-error.png"},"arg":"--get-api-key"}]}

    Workflow Version v1.12.2

    PHP Version 8.1.4

    Alfred Version 4.6.4

    macOS Version 12.3.1

    Please advise.

  7. macOS 12.3.1

    Alfred 4.6.4 w/Power-pack

    Ultimate Currency Converter 1.12.2 https://github.com/littlebrighter/alfred--ultimate-currency-converter

    Change Case Workflow 1.5.1  - https://github.com/gillibrand/alfred-change-case

I did not have python configured properly. Once I resolve that issue, Change Case Workflow is working fine.

However Ultimate Currency Convertor (last updated: Jan 21, 2022) continues to have the same problem:

    - Expected behavior: Typing "currency" and then a space should input the variables for the workflow.

    - Current behavior: Typing "currency" and then a space results in Alfred asking to search for the term "currency" in Google, Amazon, Wikipedia, etc.

Debugger output when typing "currency" in Alfred

[13:44:12.995] Ultimate Currency Converter[Script Filter] Queuing argument ''

[13:44:13.013] Ultimate Currency Converter[Script Filter] Script with argv '(null)' finished

  8. Hi,

I've got a problem with some of my workflows. I think it may be an Alfred problem, as I'm experiencing similar issues across multiple workflows.

(Yes, I am running most recent versions of everything: Alfred, Powerpack, macOS, and Workflows...)

    For example:

I'm trying to use the Change Case Workflow https://tinyurl.com/yao4jqo3  - I copy text into my clipboard and invoke the workflow by typing "case", but instead of it invoking the workflow it asks if I want to search for "case" in Google, Amazon, etc.

    OR

I'm trying to to use Ultimate Currency Convertor https://tinyurl.com/y85nvw74 - I type "currency" and a space, but instead of invoking the workflow, it asks if I want to search for "currency" in Google, Amazon, etc.

I'd prefer not to have to reset Alfreds preferences as I have everything else setup just the way I like.

    Advice please!

    Thank you...

  9. Got it. Thank you.

For those who may be interested, the correct URL to search Google with No Country Redirect is:

    https://www.google.com/search?q={query}&pws=0&gl=us&gws_rd=cr&gl=us&hl=en&pws=0

Even if one is using a VPN, Google will make a best-guess of your location and automatically redirect search results to that country.

Using the above URL will force Google to make your search default to "no location" which will give you results as if you were in the US.

  10. Thank you, but despite years of using Alfred I'm still a newbie and need help.

I made a Fallback Search Workflow, but I dont know how to have it pass my query to the URL.

On the left I made a Fallback Search Trigger and named it "Google NCR"

On the right I have an Open URL action, and have it pointed to: "http://google.com/ncr"

How can I get my query term passed on to the search?

    Thank you.

  11. Reopening my earlier issue regarding opening a Contact with Alfred.

In Big Sur, when I search for a Contact, it opens Contacts app, and then opens the desired Contact in its own seperate Window. Each new search results in a new window, so after awhile I've got a checkerboard of contact windows open.

Prior to Big Sur & Catalina, Alfred behaved as if I were using Spotlight, ie: Search for a Contact and it goes to that Contact within the main Contact window.

My workaround is to use Spotlight to open contacts, but my fingers are so hard-wired to use Alfred, I often forget.

Is there a way, perhaps using a Workflow, to pass Alfreds Contact search to Spotlight and have Spotlight open the Contact within the main Contacts window?

Any other solution to this issue?

    Thank you.

  12. I've got a new question regarding Opening Contacts app from Alfred.

In Mojave, when I searched for a contact in Alfred and pressed Return, it would open the main Contacts window to my desired contact, whether or not Contacts app was already running.

In Catalina, when I search for a contact, if the Contacts app is not currently running, it will open the main Contacts window to my desired contact.

BUT, if Contacts window is already open, then Alfred opens a new, seperate window with just that single Contact.

How can I get Alfred to revert back to the previous (prefered) behaviour of simply opening the main Contacts window to my desired contact?

    Thank you...

Just pushed an update based on your request. Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you. You'll just need to change the default behavior from "toggle" to "select" in the variables section, per the About This Workflow page in Alfred. Please let me know if you have any issues or other ideas on improvements!

    https://github.com/dotson/iTunes-Airplay-Toggle

    Really appreciate this!

However, now when I trigger the workflow, it tries to open Parallels app (for Windoze emulation).

I have zero idea why this is happening. Doesnt matter what I change your workflow hotkey to, still invokes Parallels

None of my AirPlay devices are connected to Windoze in any way.

    Very strange....
