mjv reacted to zhaowu in Alfred2 workflow for google search suggestion, instant search, and current site search
The initial motive is to automatically use current front browser's site for site search. Current it includes google suggestion, instant search, site search and related search.

    Suggestions are welcome.

Check it out in Github: http://zhaocai.github.com/alfred2-google-workflow/

It is also an example to use bundler to include gems in an alfred workflow. The command is bundle install --standalone.

    Usage 1. Search Suggestion
Keyword g: provide google search suggestions based on {query}.
    2. Instant Search
Keyword gi: get instant google search results in Alfred based on {query}.
    3. Site Search
Keyword gs: get instant google search results of front browser's site in Alfred based on {query}.
Supported browsers are: Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, OmniWeb, etc.
You can use site:example.com query if you do not want to search for current front browser's site.
    4. Related Search
Keyword related: get related google search results of front browser's site in Alfred based on {query}.
Supported browsers are: Safari, Google Chrome, Opera, OmniWeb, etc.
You can use related:example.com query if you do not want to search for current front browser's site.
    Installation
    Two ways are provided:
You can download the Google.alfredworkflow and import to Alfred 2. This method is suitable for regular users.
You can git clone or fork this repository and use rake install and rake uninstall to install. This method create a symlink to the alfred workflow directory: "~/Library/Application Support/Alfred 2/Alfred.alfredpreferences/workflows". This method is suitable for developers.

    A better unit converter

     Download V0.6
contact thijs@designandsuch.com for questions, bugs, ideas and such

    try out the demo

There are more unit converters available. but i didn't like the lack of speed due to the feeds. Thus i redid one myself which calculates everything on your mac. It fetches new currency data once in a while.. that's the only time when a second delay might appear. And in my humble opinion it's already better than all other unit converters around.

I might add more units in the future but so far it has:

    - 7 units temperature  ( celsius, kelvin, fahrenheit etc. )
    - 21 units on length  ( km, miles, nautical miles etc. )
    - 15 units on weight   ( kg, lb, etc. )
    - 8 units on time ( days, hours, years months etc )
    - 18 units on digital memory ( GB, MB TB bytes, kilobytes etc )
    - 5 units on speed ( km/h, miles per hour etc.
    - 90 units on currencies ( euro, dollar, pounds, dinar etc. )

    that's 164 units

It has a nice blind rating system. so the more you choose for one answer, the more it will be likely that that one shows up in the suggestions.
Automatic updates from a currency xml file
I am working on an automatic update on the whole workflow so i could add new features while you use it. But that is not finished yet.. and i thought.. let's start sharing maybe ill get some nice feedback for possible cool ideas.
    * designed the icons myself, probably could work some more on those too.

    it doesn't need explanation...
    if you'll just start typing
    "5 kilometer to miles..."
or something you will figure out how it works.

mjv reacted to Carlos-Sz in [Workflow] Create a new text file with clipboard content
Here is a simple workflow to create a text file with clipboard content in the current or top most Finder window/folder:

    1. using a hotkey: the text is created with the following filename pattern: Clipboard - yyymmdd(hhmmss).txt
    2. you can use newf key in Alfred (see screenshot) so you can write the first part of the file name (use CTRL key to remove the date and time from the filename).

The default date and time was code this way in order to always generate an unique filename.

Hi, attached is a workflow for Droplr app (download)

"Upload" keyword and then type the name of the file you want to uploaddi

Or use as a file action inside Alfred's file browser

Btw, a little Droplr tip, you can hotlink any image on d.pr by appending a "+,png" at the end of the URL.

mjv reacted to lxk0JNg9Uu in Purge Inactive Memory
I made an alfred (v1) extension which I ported over to a workflow. It not only purges inactive memory, but also shows the amount purged, e.g. "1024 MB Purged". It's only requirement is python, which I'm pretty sure is pre-installed on macs, so there *should* be no issues in that respect.

Important Note - If this workflow is not working for you:
This workflow sometimes requires Xcode Command Line Tools to use the purge command. To download the tools, you can do one of the following (and only one as if you do more it can cause issues):
Download Xcode from the Mac App Store and go to Preferences -> Downloads -> Components and download Command Line Tools Register for a free account at http://developer.apple.com and go to https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action, search for command line and download the latest version of  Command Line Tools for your version of OS X If you are running OS X Snow Leopard, you can either do 1 or download the command line tools from https://github.com/downloads/kennethreitz/osx-gcc-installer/GCC-10.6.pkg, as Apple does not provide a version of Command Line Tools for OS X 10.6 on developer.apple.com You can download it at http://db.tt/mdQCdaT5

I would be really grateful for any feedback

Reference Importer: search for an article/book from a variety of sources and import the corresponding reference data (BibTex, PDF) into BibDesk, copy BibTeX to clipboard, go to the landing page for the article, or copy a formatted reference. Also supports reference lookup from a PDF file. (This workflow was formerly known as "Citation Search" and "AIAA Search")

(follow link to GitHub for a more detailed README and download)

Update 5/22/2013: added conversion of non-latin characters to proper LaTeX.  also removed default cite-key so that BibDesk can populate citekey with user defined style.
Update 5/28/2013: fix due to slight change of crossref.org API
Update 12/4/2013: major update including improved parsing, getting PDFs in addition to BibTeX, Google Books, Google Scholar, reverse PDF lookup.  more details in comments below and in README
Update 12/6/2013: improvement to DOI parsing from PDF text
Update 3/15/2014: minor fixes and improvements
    Update 4/2/2014: unicode fix

mjv reacted to dfay in Case Converter (including Title Case) - now working on MacOS 12.3
Updated March 26, 2022 to use Python 3 for MacOS 12.3

Now featuring Universal Action triggers and hotkeys for the following five actions:

    Uppercase
    Lowercase
Capitalize - capitalizes all words (e.g. Posting A New Topic In Share Your Workflows)
Title Case - capitalizes word except for "the", "in", "of" etc. according to American English title conventions (e.g. Posting a New Topic in Share Your Workflows)
Sentence Case - capitalizes only the first letter of the first word & converts the rest to lower case

All of these are set to Copy to Clipboard and Paste by default.

There's also a script filter cc which lets you view the query converted and select your choice (like the Code Case workflow).

You can also connect a hot key directly to the cc script filter directly to view the output options without typing the cc command and pasting your text.

    Download:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/8fydkkef1t699et/Case Converter 3.alfredworkflow?dl=0

NB This is a new link and will download as a new workflow - you'll need to migrate any hotkeys and delete or disable the older version.

Here's the old Python 2 version in case anyone wants it:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/3k2lh21g5wnqrkp/Case Converter 2.alfredworkflow?dl=0

The original version is described below and still available, if anyone prefers it.

    Workflow Version:

This workflow converts the case of the text on the clipboard.

    http://dfay.fastmail.fm/alfred/Case%20Converter.alfredworkflow

There are two workflows which display the following five options:

    Uppercase

The keyword case will transform the text on the clipboard without pasting the result.
The keyword casep will transform the text on the clipboard and paste (using Applescript System Events)

    Hotkey Version:

Here is a version for use with hotkeys which will operate on the active selection in OS X and paste it with the converted text.  These all have a half second delay prior to pasting, which is necessary for Applescript to be able to paste.

    http://dfay.fastmail.fm/alfred/Case%20Hotkeys.alfredworkflow

    Notes and Revision History:

These use the Title Case perl script found at https://raw.github.com/ap/titlecase/master/titlecase .

If you manage academic citations with BibDesk, Zotero, Papers, Mendeley, etc., Title Case conversion is especially useful for cleaning up downloaded citations.
