I am coming late to the edit with workflow. I used QuickCursor with MacVim up to the point it became unusable. I've been using Alfred for some time now, but only as an application launcher, and have absolutely no experience with workflows. I've read all the posts here about the workflow, but am still unclear how to use it.

 

If I call Alfred and type out "editwith" I get MacVim. If I type "ew" I get a list of possible web searches for "ew". If I type "e" I get "selected last used text editor" and then MacVim. I would like to be able to type "ew" and have MacVim selected immediately.

 

When I go to type "pasteback" the paste back command appears at the top of the list as soon as I've typed "pas". I would like to have the command appear at the top of the list when I type "pb".

 

When the text is pasted back to the original application the cursor is moved to the bottom of the file after the pasteback. I thought this had been changed to keep the cursor at the end of the selection pasted back. Perhaps I am mistaken. Or is an option that can be toggled somehow?

 

Help appreciated. Please forgive my tardiness and my naiveté. 

I'll update this workflow to Alfred 3 and the latest OS X version. I hope everything is still possible.

But I have issue with this workflow and I cant fugre out how can I fix it little bit.

 

Here is the problem:

 

I use tags to organize everything in my Evernote.

And I use a lot of prefixes for tags.

For example I have tags:

 

@Calls

- Notes

*SelfNotes

.Projects

 

So, this special symbols used to categorize my tags.

 

searching with ens # seems to be working wrong with my tags.

 

Sometimes it will display just 1 note. Somethimes it will search not only for tags but also for text inside note with this text.

 

How is it possible to change workflow to search just for tags with prefixes and not search inside notes content?

This is possibly happening because the workflow uses some symbols internally to make the tags and notebooks menu possible.

If you’d like to search tags then try this command in Alfred: ens tag:Your tag here

I hope to find some time next week to try to reproduce some of the issues. Thank you all for the feedback.

It is weird, now it is working, but I don't get the last archive I downloaded. I am using Yosemite (version with the last updates) and I have re-installed rec items several times. No bug messages.

 

I have downloaded a file and it was displayed right away. Note that the workflow relies on OS X Spotlight.

2 of my favorite workflows Recent Items and Desk Drawer by Carlos-Sz.   Great Job!  However I was wondering if there was anyway to avoid seeing the finder.app document file that reveals itself when conducting a search inside a folder where an icon was manually added.   Doing a folder search in Recent Items you'll see the DeskDrawer folder has an icon file visible.  The more I customize my folder icons the more these pop up.  Is there any way to avoid this aside from deletion icon from folder?   Thanks.

Right now the workflow can’t exclude files.

Nope. As soon as I type the 's' in "ens", it opens evernote. Version 6.0.16 (451861 Direct)

When you say open you mean: 1) Evernote was already started and the workflow brings Evernote app to the foreground? or, 2) Evernote app was closed then the workflow starts Evernote app?

Note that the workflow depends on Evernote app (due AppleScript commands) and if it is closed then Evernote app will be started/opened.

Is there a way to pass a recent file that is selected to the normal Alfred actions menu?

 

It is possible. Here I use the right arrow key but sometimes I have to hit it twice to show Alfred actions.

I have a problem with version 4.1 and Yosemite. When I am looking for recent downloads, the script doesn't show anything. This only happens with recent downloads. 

 

This is the process that keeps running without any result: 

 

osascript -e run script "cat_recent.scpt" with parameters {"||downloads"}

I was wondering, are you thinking about adding the saved search support in the future?

 

It could be part of the "Search notes" results, or have it's own shortcut, eg. "enss my_saved_search_name".

There is no AppleScript commands for saved searches yet.

I have several notebooks stacks that contain a colon in the name (as in Main:subnotebook), and I've discovered that the search ent @Main:subnotebook :search terms fails because of the first colon in the notebook name (basically is searching for the term subnotebook in the Main notebook). Is there any way of escaping that colon so that the search works as expected?

The workflow uses colon internally. I would have to change it completely in order to support the way you organize your notes.

Anyway, if I find a way I’ll let you know.

I am using Alfred 2.7.1, Evernote 6.0.11, and workflow 8.991. When I type the search keyword, for example,  "ens" or "ent" or "enu", as soon as I type the last letter it opens Evernote. I'm not able to actually enter a search term. What am I doing wrong?

Strange, but now if tag is already present in evernote, it is missing for any new note created with enn:

 

example:

 

enn #newtag #existing-tag :Test note

 

Test note will have just newtag, and existing-tag is missing. If I add manually afterwards in evernote, it stays. 

 

The problem is not connected with latest version of Alfred 2 Evernote, but something with Evernote itself. Anyway, any hint where to check/how to fix with be be great.

I can't install this Workflow, i made a double-click, but it doesn't work.

Please, restart your Mac, download the workflow again and try to install it one more time.

Not sure why this happens to me, but the moment I type "en" in alfred, Evernote launches and the Alfred window closes

Therefore I can not use any of the features of the workflow. I am sure there is some kind of setting I am missing!

Same setup and this is happening *sometimes* to me as well.

Having the same issues as other folks. The moment I type ens it's launching Evernote. I have removed and reinstalled the workflow and still get the same symptoms.

OS X 10.10.3

Can i redefine some of the keywords in this workflow?

For example i want "recent downloads" to be "dl" vs "dow". I changed this in workflow prefs and when i just type "dl" everything works. But if i type "rec dl" then i don't get anything. In case i want to start with "rec" i still have to use "dow".

So can this be changed easily or have to change something in the scripts?

There is something wrong with the workflow:

1. When i type "rec dow" it would auto expand to "rec Downloads >" as normal but would not display anything. Also, when i try to delete (backspace) the word "Downloads" it would delete character by character unlike other keywords, where it would delete the whole second keyword (like "Now >" or "Applications >")

2. Also another strange thing is if i want to type "rec folders" then as soon as i type "rec folde" then the whole line gets deleted automatically and then  symbols "rc" gets input automatically. 

3. When i try to run the workflow, osascript process immediately goes to 90% and stays there for a couple of minutes. 

 

I really like the workflow so can these problems be eliminated (if they are indeed workflow related)?

The workflow needs an update due Yosemite and even the new Alfred version. I hope to start it next month. Thank you for your feedback.

Luckily you don't need a applescript at all, because todoist has its own api ( and modules that wrap the API for programming languages like Python that allow you to create workflows.

The append using AppleScript (not only using Alfred) is a known bug. I read in Evernote forum that an internal note about it was already done.

Unfortunately we have to wait.

Anyway, it is interesting to see how “well” Vincent S. is informed…

I made a test here and it seems to be working fine.

First, make sure to install Evernote app from evernote.com (you can download it from there and reinstall it or open MAS app and see if Evernote is already “installed”).

If you have it from evernote.com please make a step by step here or using a private message so I can try to reproduce the issue.

I'm having some trouble with creating new notes. Every time I try I get an Error message telling me that the notebook name is case sensitive. I am just selecting the notebook from the list it provides so I don't understand how it's getting the letter case wrong. What am I doing wrong here?

That said, I have a question. I can't figure out how to create a new note with a title. For instance, I want to type a new note (not from the clipboard or selected text or anything) and I want to give it a title and then add the note. I type in enn, choose the notebook I want it to go in, and then start typing but it puts everything I type into the Title of the note AND the body of the note.  How do I keep the title in the title field and the note itself in the body/content field? It seems like that functionality should be there, but I can't figure it out.

You can use /n

enn @Notebook :Title Here /n Body Here

This will work to separate title from body and the second /n used in a command will be a new line.

Append issue is a known Evernote app bug so we have to wait for a fix. There is nothing I can do about it. Thank you for your feedback.

Using 8.991 & EN 6.06

The append functionality (including tags) and adding reminders seem to be broken still.

I just "Downgrade" the workflow to version 8.0 and everything is working ok, except adding tags, so maybe you can fix something from your side so you don't need to wait for them

 

I have version 6.0.5 from their site, Alfred 2.6 (374) and Yosemite 10.10.1 Everything is working great. I hope this gives you and idea and you can fix it without depending on their updates.

Here is a very early version of the workflow that starts to add support to Evernote 6.06+. There are a lot of code lines to review and test so there is a chance that something still needs to be updated. Well, let me know.
