Same issue as above on Alfred 5

Hey all, Just updated to MacOS 12.3.1 and Zothero stopped working. Logged in here to see it's a known problem and one that looks like it isn't an easy fix. I want to support what @lutefish said regarding @deanishe's amazing work for a workflow he doesn't even use, and how much time it has saved me and so many other people over the years. It's certainly time to buy him another beer or 3. I won't be getting into installing Python 2 I don't think, I'm not doing as much academic work as I used to. Anyway, if this is the last of ZotHero then I'm a little sad! Cheers @deanishe and thanks for all the fish.

Thanks @deanishe. Same issue of me not understanding how the workflows work! But worth a try. I don't want to hijack this thread, -BUT- if I did, I would say I have tried this script http://dumptext.com/4baaCaig/raw/ and some others. And everytime I get: Error Service invoked too many times for one day: route. (line 8). And when I reduce the size of the spreadsheet that doesn't seem to help, but I presume I need to wait 24hours for the service to reset, so that didn't help to debug. I've actually done it manually now, (with a little help from Keyboard Maestro) it didn't take long. At various points I've had the above script and similar working a little, but usually only part of the spreadsheet. If I came back to the spreadsheet (google sheets) it would usually start again rather than trying to complete the ones that had already been done, therefore not solving the error issue. If that makes sense. Anyway.... @stuartcryan's excellent workflow isn't the place for me to be discussing this, and its done. Next years tax return I'll try again!

Just came across your workflow. Great work! Here's a feature request that may not be feasible. What if a modifier copied the distance to the clipboard. I'm doing my taxes and going through hundreds of journeys. Tried to automate it with google sheets but can't get paste the multiple requests error, hence looking on Alfred. I'm about to go do it manually (probably using your workflow, I'll see what works best), but it might be useful for others in the future?

I can't see how it would. Unless your searching for a very short last name, like 'Oh'. I suppose then it could annoy someone. Benefits outweigh the negative in my opinion, but we could wait and see if others have an opinion. Thank you very much! It was a very small price to pay, two beers. I hope other users do the same, it was great work that you had little or no reason to do!

Now the work has started again its great to have this workflow. A reminder to myself and anyone else that uses ZotHero to buy @deanishe a beer or two. I'm doing that now. Personally, I would find being able to use first name in the author search useful as well. I know its common practice to refer to authors by their last name, but sometimes, the brain just doesn't work that way and all you can think of is the first name.

I've been on Christmas break, and have been away from the computer for the most part. I did notice today that when I chose zotconf it told me that the workflow was up to date even though I didn't have the latest one. I don't know if that's an issue for you, but the update worked flawlessly. I'll keep testing it.

I've been holding of replying while I try to work out what's going on. While I can see that might be an issue if you're using notes a lot, it wasn't my issue. Mine was a stand-alone note, created by Zotero-File-New Note Maybe a stand-alone note is not actually an item then since the option above File-New Note is File-New item? So a note belonging to an item, is indexed and a stand-alone note isn't? I'm just guessing. A stand-alone note in zotero can't be edited like a normal entry - it has no meta-data that I can see, which supports my guess about it not being an item. I can't change the item type therefore. Notes belonging to items are being searched, which is fantastic. It's really not an issue, but perhaps good to know. I only have 4 stand alone notes, but sometimes I use them while working. I can create parent items for them, and then they can be found. It makes sense that they aren't really an 'item' in the library as they can't be cited, they have no creator or title. As I understand it. EDIT: Maybe I'm wrong about it not having a title, as the JSON export clearly shows it does, but it's just taken from the first line of the note.

Could you also add entry type: note to the search? I can't stop myself saying how great this is.

I don't think there is a good reason that ZotQuery did that. Often if I'm researching something online, I'll be saving many many webpages straight into zotero. Their item type is web page. It's really useful to be able to search them, not even necessarily their attachments (though sure, that would be nice), but the creators and titles of web pages is very important. Is that possible?

Always look in, or always paste the results? I always think pasting these massive debugs must be annoying for people. Should I be trying to evaluate the important parts and just pasting them? As I don't know what's important and what's not, I have pasted it all. I could take some guesses at what's not important, but they would be guesses. @deanishe Again, this is fantastic. I'm not sure the best way to report possible bugs, or features that I'm expecting to work that aren't, so bear with me. Web pages aren't showing up in results. I've tested that by finding specific webpages in my library, and can't find them using zothero Another issue: I have an entry for a Bill Evans Trio recording. Bill Evans Trio, How My Heart Sings!, Audio CD (Riverside, 1962), Amazon.com. I can get it to show by doing an all fields search using the title but not using 'zot bill evans trio' The entry doesn't show at 'bill evans' but possibly there are too many entires at that point. Zothero gives me 11 before going back to the top. I would expect that behaviour. 'zot bill evans t' shows me 7 listings, but not the above mentioned one. 'zot bill evans tr' gives me no matches found. I'm not sure what the issue is. The 'performer' is a single entry 'Bill Evans Trio'. Furthermore, I have another recording entry by bill evans, this time the performer field is 'Evans, Bill' (Lastname, firstname). If I search by field 'creator' it appears if I search for 'Evans' but not 'Bill Evans' or 'Evans, Bill'. If I change the creator field in zotero to a single field 'Bill Evans' (rather than a two field (Lastname, firstname)) then it appears however I search for it. If you still have a copy of my library you may be able to replicate that. I love the two different ways of citation by the way. Yesterday the italics were showing as html code <i> </i> when I posted in this forum but today when I pasted in this post the title was actually italics. Pasting into textedit or notes (mac) gives me the codes. I would prefer if it was italicized in the paste. I'm sure I can do a keyboard maestro macro that does that easily though. Perhaps I'm missing something? I'll keep looking for issues if that helps. Seriously, I second that completely. And I think that the number of people who use alfred AND zotero will increase as a result of this workflow. I don't think the number will remain tiny. I will be buying beers. Today is rent day and 4 days before Christmas but it will be done. I'd also like to help spread the word of this workflow when you are ready for release.

Was just editing my post. I got it to work, not sure what I was doing wrong. A list of citation style came up this time, I must have done something wrong. It gave me this: <i>The Cultural Politics of Jazz Collectives: This Is Our Music</i>, eds. Gebhardt, N and Whyton, T (Routledge, 2015). That's my own citation style, I'll have to look at it again tomorrow though unfortunately. THanks again!

@deanishe Amazing! Beers coming from me too. It's working great, both opening the entry in zotero and opening attachments. I'm getting no citation style set when trying to copy citation, is that my end or is that not working yet. Can't say how great this is to have a working version. Also, love the name and the icon. Congratulations and thanks so much. It's late here, I'm just home and only have had 5 mins to look at it, will give it a better going over tomorrow.

Got this reply from zotero forums. Any use to you? I can ask him how to get them into zotero if not. emilianoeheyns commented on Sample Library for testingI do have quite a few test references (138 test cases with 1589 references in all) and you're more than welcome to use them, but they're not in a format that Zotero can import without help -- they're straight JSON dumps of what the importer expects, produced and consumed by one of the BBT-bundled translators. I chose JSON dumps because I couldn't find an existing format that roundtripped cleanly; Zotero RDF came closest but wasn't (at the time at least) enough for my tests.

I don't need to see collections in the workflow. I have no preference. Sorry for being confusing. If the workflow gets the citation in the preferred style to the clipboard, I'm happy. Again, sorry. What I meant was that I didn't need that in the workflow, collections specifically.

Perhaps the RTF/ODF-Scan issue is just confusing things. If the workflow open zotero to the correct article, then the user can use the quick copy shortcut to copy the scanable cite to the clipboard and the paste it. Also RTF - scan is a different thing, I conflated the two above. It might be better to ignore scanable cites.
