    As far as i know, iMessage first would try to send your text as iMessage anyhow and only if the number is not registered with Apple or if it is but would not "ping" then it sends the text as regular sms.

    Another thing i just noticed: (iMessage is open and running in the background) i type this: The number that is suggested is wrong. I opened the Contacts app and checked, it is listed as home number and the mobile number is different. After that i started the workflow again and get this: Now the number suggested is correct, the mobile number. This happened to several contacts i tried. The workflow would suggest non-mobile number but once i check the contact in the Contacts app and call the workflow for the second time, it would suggest correct number, which is mobile.

    Yes, that's true. It just involves working in two programs instead of one. But this is basically usability case not functionality. Function wise your workflow is great! Another suggestion. Would it be possible to add special keyword to reply to the last received iMessage within Alfred? I get notifications on my mac so having this keyword i could just bring Alfred, type some text, hit return and continue working while the text would be sent to the sender of this last message i just received.

    OK, by trial and error, these are my findings: 1. iMessage closed (as in not running in the background) then the workflow displays as follows: 2. iMessage is open (window closed but the app runs in the background as denoted by a dot underneath the icon): Also I found this strange behaviour 1. When I type first three letters of the last name i get this: 2. When i type four letters of the last name i get this: As you can see when i type three letters of the last name i get absolutely irrelevant results. When i type four letters of the last name then the first line is correct but why does it show other contacts? The other workflows that involve actions on the contacts display proper contacts upon entering first two letters, so i think there is something in this workflow that does that.

    I was wondering the same thing. It looks like if there is more than one mobile number assigned to a contact it will display the number it is going to use to send a message. And if there is only one mobile number, then it will display just the name. But in case of two or more mobile numbers, how the workflow decides which number to use i have no idea.

    Thank you for this great workflow! Can i redefine some of the keywords in this workflow? For example i want "recent downloads" to be "dl" vs "dow". I changed this in workflow prefs and when i just type "dl" everything works. But if i type "rec dl" then i don't get anything. In case i want to start with "rec" i still have to use "dow". So can this be changed easily or have to change something in the scripts?

    I was thinking more of: "callm + NAME" then hit return then the workflow will produce a text box where i can enter the text and then hit Return again to send it. At this point the message will be sent and the workflow closed and i should be back to what i was doing before. I just don't like hitting small keys (especially if they require pressing modifier keys) when you are working away. Hitting big fat keys like spacebar or return is so much easier and quicker (at least for me). Also i think separating logical steps with Return key is more natural and somewhat reflects you thinking and decision making process than writing one complex expression in one line.

    Yes, this is quite good! Or have a special keyword for killing and relaunching. I'm OK with any option as long as there is such functionality.

    Yes, that's correct. Detect that you're typing using the wrong keyboard layout, delete that, switch layout and retype that in proper layout. Yes, i agree, that a separate program that does this globally is a lot more useful than just implementing this in Alfred. There are at least three programs that can do that for Russian - English layouts. I'm not sure about any other languages.

    Hello, guiguan! Thank you for this awesome workflow. Is it possible to add an option of composing a message right in the Alfred drop-down box and send it without opening iMessage? Th be clear, for example when i type "callm + name" Alfred will present me with a drop-down box (i'm not sure of proper name this function) where i can compose a message and then send it from within the workflow without opening iMessage.

    The problem arises when you have to work with more than 2 languages. On my mac i have "Automatically switch to a document's input source" option disabled. So when i type something in Russian and if i want to quickly execute an Alfred workflow, say look something up on google, i just bring up Alfred and start typing "пщщпду". What i really wanted to type was of course "google" but i forgot to switch keyboard layout. So the program i use (punto switcher) would recognise that i really meant "google" so it would delete "пщщпду" and it would type "google" (well, actually it would execute itself much earlier, after i typed "пщ" because in Russian there is no word that starts with these two letters). This whole thing is a big problem for people who have to work with 2 languages and who are not capable of blind typing. But even if you can blind-type, this program saves unnecessary keystrokes that you otherwise would have had to press to switch keyboard layout. so i guess, yes, the OP wants this functionality in Alfred, so that he does not have to switch keyboard layouts. Or if the OP forgets to switch it, then Alfred would correct this kind of mistake. I don't have any problem at all, because i have a program that does this globally, not only in Alfred.

    Exactly. There are programs that do statistical analysis of symbols your enter and if the sequence is not typical for the language that you keyboard layout is set to, then the keyboard layout is switched automatically to the other layout (i think these programs can only work with 2 languages) AND entered symbols are automatically deleted and retyped in proper language. Well, maybe my explanation is not very clear but an example is worth a thousand words: "пщщпду" - is "google" typed with keyboard set to Russian language layout. There is no word in Russian that starts with "пщ" so as soon as i enter these two symbols, such a program will simulate backspace being pressed twice, change keyboard layout to English and retype "go" Having said all that, for Russian language there are 3 programs that i'm aware of that do that kind of transliteration globally, in any program, not only in Alfred.
