@Mr Pennyworth If you update to 4.3 b1199, you can now set the following pref:

defaults write com.runningwithcrayons.Alfred experimental.presssecretary -bool YES
You'll need to restart Alfred after setting this preference, then subscribe to the distributed notification:

    alfred.presssecretary
You'll get relatively detailed output, for example:

    { announcement = "selection.changed"; selection = { objectuid = "D51F7B33-AE36-4A45-91FF-E983659833EF"; quicklookurl = "file:///Applications/Safari.app/"; resultuid = "user.workflow.1B09DD22-0FDA-43B0-88DE-FBC92B83DA70./Applications/Safari.app"; subtext = "/Applications/Safari.app"; title = Safari; workflowuid = "user.workflow.1B09DD22-0FDA-43B0-88DE-FBC92B83DA70"; }; view = default; windowframe = "NSRect: {{921, 884}, {718, 259}}"; }
    Announcement types are as follows:

window.shown - The Alfred window has been shown on the screen window.hidden - The Alfred window has been hidden context.changed - The view has changed from e.g. the default results to file system navigation selection.changed - The selected item in Alfred has changed
The different contexts are as follows:

default navigation actions music (note: actions and music don't post out selection notifications)
Important note: This feature is experimental, and there is no guarantee that it will remain in Alfred in the future. Having said that, if it's removed, it would likely be replaced with a more robust solution.

Let me know how you get on

    Cheers,
    Andrew

Deleting a bunch of code is so satisfying!
no more mouse tracking no more keypress monitoring no more accessibility hoops to get window events and sizes no more guessing "how does Alfred rank results?"

Hey! I forgot to chime in when I saw this originally - very impressive! Richer content natively within Alfred is something which has always been on the plan for the future, but this really does provide a solid stepping stone.

It wouldn't be a huge amount of effort to post a distributed notification for the quicklookurl, but due to a whole host of reasons (of which you outline some above), I wouldn't make Alfred post this by default.

Having said that, for fun, I wouldn't be adverse to make it a defaults write on Alfred's prefs just to see this working better, and see where you take it

    Cheers,
    Andrew

This is actually a thing I've been hoping to see in Alfred for many years. I wish you good luck, and I also hope this gets worked on as an official Alfred API. Great POC!

I can probably come up with a good list of reasons why I left. But since it has been such a long time, none of them are probably very accurate.
A huge part of why I left was probably because of personal reasons, health, work, life... Also, an increasingly big part of my coding started gravitating towards piracy and it was made clear to me more than once that it wasn't welcome here.  I had used Alfred to get into programming basically (yes you can be MIT robotics and learn programming through alfred!) and I had started getting good enough that it wasn't that interesting to me to code workflows The direction v3 was taking didn't benefit me personally. It was gearing towards entry level power users and I started feeling left out. I remember wanting dynamic updates of items within a results list and getting into an argument about it (probably with @Dferg). I wanted other things too, but I can't remember what. Also, v3 felt like a money grab to me. Also I thought I had to pay for it. @rice.shawn(and @deanishe?) wanted me to get more involved and I kept saying yes and failing on my promise to do so... So I kinda shamed out.  It didn't feel very gratifying to develop workflows because I couldn't really get usage stats, and from my own estimates, each one got downloaded less than 20 times ... And now that I'm back, it all feels too far and not worth it. I'd like to recode every single workflow I have but that's not gonna pay the bills.

    Hey all,

I used to be a very active contributor to Alfred 2 and I kinda stopped with the release of Alfred 3. I just realized today that the licence I had for v2 allows me to use v3! So now I'm back and I'd like to get the latest, the best, the most used, the most innovative, everything the community has to offer! Where can I find this?

    Thanks all :-)

The only thing you are linked to is DropBox (and NO mention that a Transmission download would end up there, Mine sure as (bleep) don't, and if yours do, that's your personal choice - not everyone's. But, either way, there's NO mention of this, and - as I colourfully laid out - N-O - transmission downloading workflow of any kind.

    Hey guys,

I just made a very simple framework to enable people to demo their alfred workflows in a prettier way than a gif. It's a mockup of alfred all in javascript and CSS, with fake osx notifications and pretend key display. Scripting is very easy and all in json and there is all the callback, timing and looping you might want.

Here is the live demo; it should be fully operational. More is coming but feel free to fork it on github already !

To all those who have somewhat complex workflows, now you can explain in a very simple way. I'm also thinking Packal could integrate this Detailed instructions on github.

(i'm just repeating deanishe's words because they are so true) Audio Switch, by Sampayo. Switch between your inputs and your outputs. Smart and fast workflow to get a color in different notations (rgb, hsb, hex...) CoffeeCofee, by Vitor. Toggles a caffeinate so that your computer does not go to sleep. Units, by designandsuch. Great, it's working now :-)

I have some feedback for you though:

In the above picture, you can see your own workflow, and actual app (pacapong.app), a hidden R history file ".Rapp.history" (this is a software used in research for statistical analysis and the likes), and a folder "71135_katapult_zip" containing blender models, images and html files.

I don't really think ".Rapp.history" and "71135_katapult_zip" have their place on this list. If you don't want to filter files by their extension, then at least you could try and explore them and see if they fit (the ".Rapp" file will not have the usual package content structure, the "katapult_zip" is actually a folder containing nothing that can be installed).

My Download is not so very messy. It is, but I think it could be way worse, in which case I'd be lost in files suggested for install...

Anyway, I like what you did ;-)

So I made a workflow with fed back results.

But I made it a somewhat special way in that currencies are defined within the workflow. I really like how simple it makes it though.

But it's easy to change for your own currencies (if like me you only ever use the same) or to combine with the one posted by theFeverDog (first post of this topic) to get something more dynamic.

This workflow can process and convert all CSS color formats and several Objective-C formats, namely NSColor (calibrated and device) and UIColor. It also provides an interface to the OS X color panel for easier color manipulations.

It's written in native code (i.e. it's really fast).

There are more unit converters available. but i didn't like the lack of speed due to the feeds. Thus i redid one myself which calculates everything on your mac. It fetches new currency data once in a while.. that's the only time when a second delay might appear. And in my humble opinion it's already better than all other unit converters around.

I might add more units in the future but so far it has:

    - 7 units temperature  ( celsius, kelvin, fahrenheit etc. )
    - 21 units on length  ( km, miles, nautical miles etc. )
    - 15 units on weight   ( kg, lb, etc. )
    - 8 units on time ( days, hours, years months etc )
    - 18 units on digital memory ( GB, MB TB bytes, kilobytes etc )
    - 5 units on speed ( km/h, miles per hour etc.
    - 90 units on currencies ( euro, dollar, pounds, dinar etc. )

    that's 164 units

It has a nice blind rating system. so the more you choose for one answer, the more it will be likely that that one shows up in the suggestions.
Automatic updates from a currency xml file
I am working on an automatic update on the whole workflow so i could add new features while you use it. But that is not finished yet.. and i thought.. let's start sharing maybe ill get some nice feedback for possible cool ideas.
    * designed the icons myself, probably could work some more on those too.

    it doesn't need explanation...
    if you'll just start typing

    Hello there,

I've been building a CLI application to manage workflows the way package managers like npm and Homebrew does, I called it "awm" (acronym for Alfred Workflow Manager). Using http://packal.org (by Shawn Patrick Rice) as workflow's central repository, the intention of this project is to easily install and update workflows for shell lovers (like me).

The project still needs user intervention for installing and updating workflows, unfortunately I'm unable to keep working on it for the moment, so any node.js developer that would like to contribute on the remaining features is more than welcome.

Perhaps you could twizzle the <subtitle mod="cmd"> XML into a mod tag:
<mod key="cmd" valid="yes">    <subtitle>My alternate subtitle</subtitle>    <arg>my alternate arg</arg> </mod> Having (optional) alternate args would make it easier to, say, open URLs to different websites or copy different formats of dates/colours/whatever to the clipboard without having to wrangle half a dozen Run Script/Open URL/Copy to Clipboard actions.

It'd also make it easier for workflows to manage their own configuration without having to re-write their own info.plist, which is not an optimal solution.
