1. So, I may be an outlier, but I use Alfred so much that I have a bit of trouble finding things that I have created in my workflows. For example, to ease my pain, I created 3 different workflows for work that contain keyword triggered flows with 3 different general types (I have 1 for administrative type stuff, 1 dedicated to all my scripts for opening special terminal windows, etc.). However, even now, when I open these workflows, scrolling through to find the function/flow that I want to edit or clean up is kind of a pain, especially since many of my flows have the same keyword trigger, so they look the same until I open them up to edit. A couple of things that might be super handy: 1. Enable a search *within* workflows to search for all flows with a particular keyword trigger 2. Enable a search within all workflows for keyword triggers 3. Enable a search for either all workflows or within a workflow for keywords contained within written scripts (this would be great for searching for reusable code blocks, or could be used to search for blocks of code with specified commented code keywords... thanks for listening, and if you want to discuss ideas, feel free to reach out!
 2. Opening a Folder via an Apple Script workflow fails on OS X 10.11 El Capitan Facts - fails for - working - workflows unchanged from Yosemite - fails for most but not all workflows - workflows are activated by shortcut - workflows are Apple Scripts shown below - for all below workflows the destination folders *do* exist and are standard, non-hidden, non-system folders that were successfully opened by Alfred on Yosemite. Example of FAILING workflow on alfred_script(q) tell application "Finder" to activate tell application "Finder" to open ("/Users/<redacted>/Documents/MyDocs/People" as POSIX file) end alfred_script Example of SUCCESSFUL workflow [same system, same user, etc] on alfred_script(q) tell application "Finder" to activate tell application "Finder" to open ("/Users/<redacted>/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData" as POSIX file) end alfred_script
 3. I would love to see usage stats made available for custom workflows. Simply seeing how often Workflow XYZ is used a day just as General, iTunes, Hotkeys, etc are right now.

 5. Hi there - I'm not sure this is the right place for this, since I'm not 100% certain it's a bug in Alfred itself (could be the Ruby framework I'm using, but it doesn't seem like it). Anyway, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. I have written a workflow with the Ruby Alfred workflow framework here. The workflow uses a Script Filter to generate a list of objects from my home automation device, which I can then action to perform commands against. The problem is that sometimes the workflow doesn't seem to trigger the "Run Script" action. I've verified this by watching the Alfred workflow debug output: [INFO: alfred.workflow.input.scriptfilter] <items>

Stereo - Volume Up 5
<arg>Stereo - Volume Up 5:53078:0:</arg>
address: 53078
<icon>icon.png</icon>

Stereo - Volume Down 5
<arg>Stereo - Volume Down 5:57003:0:</arg>
address: 57003
<icon>icon.png</icon>

Stereo - Power
<arg>Stereo - Power:37005:0:</arg>
address: 37005
<icon>icon.png</icon>

Stereo - Line In
<arg>Stereo - Line In:54836:0:</arg>
address: 54836
<icon>icon.png</icon>

Stereo - KPLU
<arg>Stereo - KPLU:32963:0:</arg>
address: 32963
<icon>icon.png</icon>

Stereo - KEXP
<arg>Stereo - KEXP:39911:0:</arg>
address: 39911
<icon>icon.png</icon>
</items> [INFO: alfred.workflow.input.scriptfilter] Processing output 'alfred.workflow.action.script' with arg 'Stereo - KEXP:39911:0:' Note that the last INFO line is "processing output", but there is nothing from the Run Script whatsoever. I've even added gibberish to the very beginning of my Run Script and it never displays any errors, so it really seems it's just not being run. Anyone have ideas for what to look at here, or how to enable even more verbose logging from Alfred workflows? *UPDATE*: I neglected to mention I'm running the latest Alfred (v2.8 (414)) w/Powerpack on Yosemite 10.10.5 Cheers - elliott
 6. I have Alfred 2.7.2, and have the VirtualBox Control Workflow installed. I see it in my Workflows section with a bunch of other workflows. In the Alfred spotlight/search window, when I type in "vm", I used to get all the VMs installed on my machine. But lately, I'm not sure what happened but when I type in "vm" nothing comes up. I see "Search Google for 'vm'", "Search Amazon for 'vm'" etc. but not the list of VMs. I've uninstalled and re-installed the VirtualBox Control Workflow, restarted Mac but it's not helping. Can someone please help? Thank you.
 7. Hi. First post here. I have a number of Workflows that are keyword activated. However, it's a long list to remember. Is there a way I can print out all the keywords I've set up? Thanks.
 8. I had Alfred set to sync its preferences through iCloud Drive to keep them the same across two Macs, but I somehow lost my Powerpack workflows in the process. The preferences for Alfred on one of my computers were reset as well. I have two preferences files in iCloud Drive now, one labeled Alfred.alfredpreferences and the other Alfred 2.alfredpreferences. Deleting the second one returns my preferences to the ones I had, but the workflows are still gone in both files. (checking the folder within the alfredpreferences package) These files are the only Alfred preferences files left on the entire drive. Is it possible to recover the workflows?
 9. I have searched everywhere for a Dashlane password manager workflow and cannot find one. Does anybody know if this is in the works/is possible to make? They are not great with 3rd party integration in iOS either, so I am not sure if they offer the possibility to integrate with Alfred. Thoughts?
 10. Recommendations for Sharing Workflows The forums have really been running well and you guys (and gals) have been creating some amazing workflows so far. I wanted to throw out a few suggestions though to make sure things stay organized, are easy to read, and easy to find. This will be an evolving document. Check back for questions regarding questions on posting your workflows. If you have a question that isn't answered within the contents of this thread, feel free to contact any of the moderators (Myself, Andrew, or Vero). Post Titles Be specific. Don't be overly descriptive about every little feature the workflow provides. Titles are best kept to the workflow name, and potentially a few words on the overall gist of what it does. Tags Be sure to set topic tags for your workflow post. This will make it easier for users searching on the forums to find your post/workflow easily based off of a few key words. Dependencies Please include a listing of all dependencies for your workflow. This will hopefully alleviate potential problems that users run into from attempting to run an installed workflow without an installed package being present. Examples of this would be Ruby gems or Python modules or even Python versions that are required for using the workflow. If a specific application is required for your workflow to function, be sure to include a link to that applications website, or a link to it in the App Store as well. Also include, if necessary, required versions of OS X. System Modifications If your workflow creates or modifies any supporting files that would alter the users environment, this should be noted. This will make it known up front that your workflow modifies system file X to achieve its functionality. Also, if the user uninstalls the workflow, how to remove these files or restore the originals. Screenshots They aren't required, but providing a screenshot or two for your workflow helps provide users with a good idea of what it is they are about to download. Descriptions help, but many users are wanting to pop in, get a quick visual, and download. Posting When sharing a new workflow, please be sure to create your own thread for it. By posting it in another workflows thread, your workflow may never reach the masses. Create your own thread so that it stands out and everyone will be able to find it easily. This helps remove confusion on which workflow to download if there are multiple workflows, or modified workflows posted within the same thread. It also helps ensure that the develop that spent their time and put in the hard work to create the workflow get credit for their work. Posting a patch/update/fix/modified version of a workflow in another authors thread may steal attention from their original work. So let's try to be considerate. Sharing Multiple Workflows Try to limit a new thread to a single workflow. The reason for this follows the situation mentioned above. Unless you have an abnormally long title, users casually browsing the forums may not realize how many workflows are available in the post, or what they are. Creating a separate post for workflows also creates an individual area for you to provide support or answer questions for that workflow alone. Modifying Existing Workflows Most developers are very open to feature requests for their published workflows. So before modifying someone else's workflows, check with the developer and see if they would add the feature first. If the requested feature is something that the developer doesn't plan on adding, of course you could add the feature yourself. If you think it's a feature that others would also find greatly useful and you decide that you would like to share your modified version, please be respectful of the original developer give them a heads up before hand. Also, be courteous and give credit to the original author and/or a link back to their original thread so that they receive some credit for their work. Nobody enjoys having their work stolen. Updating You Workflows When sharing an update to an already posted workflow, rather than creating another post in the existing thread, update the initial post to include desired information and updated download links (if necessary). This makes it easier for users to find the most up to date version of your workflows, along with information what is included in the update. You could also modify the thread title to indicate the date that the workflow was last updated. Notice: I'm also going to try to monitor this thread and keep it clean. If you post suggestions for other things to be added to the document, if they are merged in, I will probably remove your original post. Questions will also be treated the same way. If answers are later added into the original post, I may remove the original question. This will hopefully keep it so that all documentation remains in the original post so someone doesn't potentially have to search through several pages of questions for find a simple answer.

 12. I really love workflows and I wanted to start creating my own. I'm mostly a front-end developer and use ruby for the most part on any back-end dev work I do. I saw that Alfred supports Ruby workflows which made me very excited. I did some googling and had a hard time finding some tutorials about creating workflows with ruby, plenty with php though. I needed to learn the basics of workflows and wanted to do it in a language I knew (not familiar with php). I wrote a post detailing how a basic workflow functions with ruby. It's nothing you can't find anywhere else, but it was a good exercise to get the basics figured out and create something that helps me weekly. http://buddylreno.github.io/adventures-with-alfred-a-basic-ruby-workflow/ I look forward to all the interesting workflows people are creating!
 13. Hi, I would like to use the 1password feature in a workflow in order to connect to a website and after that download my bills. Does anyone knows how to do? Thanks Mat
 14. I've been trying to reorganize my 200 workflows these last weeks. I wanted to be able to find them as fast as possible. Adding a category to each of them, while helpful was not always "working". I sometimes have 15 workflows in one category, so I can't filter them only using the search bar. So, I decided to group them (i.e. putting all the workflows that let me launch a website into a "simple workflow"). I found it was way more effective because I had less results when I was searching for one workflow. The problem I still have is that for example for my website launchers (= open this url in the default browser actions) workflows, it can become quite a mess quite fast. For example, when you have 26 little workflows you want to add one new little action to the 13th workflow -> you have to reorganize the 14th, 15th, 16th ..., 26th workflows. Or, you'll get this: One solution would be able to be able to put these workflows in little"modules". Think about the way actions are displayed in Automator. You can drag them, close one by clicking on a cross. But the most important, they act as block. For a basic pinky (ugly?) proof of concept made in less than a minute in Skitch: That way, one could add actions to one workflow without having to reorganize all of them. What do you think ?
 15. Hi! I'm an alfred noob, and not much of a programmer - so I was wondering if someone could help. I'm looking for a way to search top level folders in a specific directory only - and exclude its children - I'm guessing with a script filter. Context - We do a lot of development locally and I am often having to type in http://localhost/foldername to open the local instance of a website. Because there are so many its a bit of a pain in the proverbial. I've managed to cobble together a script that searches my localhost folder and opens the folder name (as $filename) at http://localhost/$filename I'm using the file filter, which returns all the sub folders in my localhost - I'm guessing I need to write a script filter that ignores sub folders and only looks for top-level directories in the localhost directory. thanks!
 16. Getting the Escaping options right is notoriously difficult. So many workflows fail to work or choke on certain input because the Escaping options are incorrect, and it's a pretty esoteric topic. It bites experienced coders as well as relative neophytes. Even the built-in Google and Amazon Suggest example workflows have the wrong Escaping options (Backslashes should also be selected — the Google workflow chokes on, e.g., "what does \n mean?") That said, for any given language, there is a correct set of Escaping options. In my opinion, Alfred should automatically select the right Escaping options for the selected Language in Script Filters and Run Script actions and/or clearly document the correct Escaping options for each available language.
 17. A feature I think could be an enormous boon to Alfred's functionality without massively expanding its scope would be the ability for workflows to call other workflows via Alfred's AppleScript API, but with the results returned to the workflow, not Alfred. With a single addition to Alfred's AppleScript dictionary, say, tell Alfred to search "query" and return results (or however these things work), the (XML/arg) results from one workflow/Script Filter could be returned to another. This would allow workflow devs to chain Script Filters together—something that could massively simplify workflow development—without requiring a significant overhaul of Alfred's API/workflow model. Currently, workflow authors have to jump through a lot of hoops to implement multi-stage workflows, usually with the undesirable "flash" of a disappearing and reappearing Alfred window. For example, my FuzzyFolders workflow has to use multiple keywords and delimiters to coax Alfred into performing a multi-step action. It would be much cleaner for the user and much easier for me (the developer) if I could tell Alfred to perform an action but return the result(s) right back to my script instead of passing it/them off to another action. Many workflow authors resort to AppleScript dialogs and tools like Pashua/cocoaDialog to solve this problem, which (1) kind of wrecks the Alfred aesthetic/workflow and (2) results in a dozen copies of the same helper app wasting space in users' Dropboxes.
 18. Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my plugins. I can't use it anymore, when I type an keyword to call a workflow, alfred shows me the workflow description, but when I start to type the seach text alfred changes itself to google search. Examples:
 19. Hi, everyone, I've finally worked up the courage to experiment with workflows a bit. My mission is to modify the included Should I Watch this Movie? workflow to add a search on the site allcinema.net, to give me the Japanese title of the movie (useful when hoping to see the movie in Japan). I made a new Action to open the URL http://www.allcinema.net/prog/search_all.php/?search={query} When I use the workflow, a blank window opens up for allcinema.net. If I remove the slash before the question mark http://www.allcinema.net/prog/search_all.php?search={query} the allcinema.net site is opened along with the other three, but unfortunately the search string doesn't seem to be being passed to the site to search on, the site giving me the error message (in Japanese) that "No search string was input". Can anyone give me some pointers to finding the right URL for this search? Thanks, Rick
 20. Hi all -- I use Alfred on an iMac that has a Parallels VM installed. I have a bunch of hotkeys that should never, ever run when I'm using an app in Parallels. As far as I can tell, my only option is to take all of my apps in /<home>/Applications (Parallels) -- all 134 of them -- and drag them into the "Related Apps" dialog for each and every one of those hotkeys. Then, if I ever install a new application in my Parallels VM, I need to drag *that* to the "Related Apps" dialog for each of those hotkeys, too. Is there an easier way to do this? Specifically: 1. Is there any way to tell a hotkey "don't activate for any app in this subdirectory?" 2. Failing that, is there any way to tell Alfred about a group of applications, and then set individual hotkeys not to activate if any app in that group is active? Frankly, I'd even settle for "make it so *no hotkeys at all* activate for any app in the Parallels VM" if that would make things simpler. ~ thanks! ~ =-Peter -- peter rogers @ home | http://www.peterrogers.info "Love is like oxygen." 21. Hello! Big question here! Is there any way to run an alfred command as an action through a workflow?
 22. Hi, I have a headless unit which I use at home and it would be useful if I could extend some of my workflows to output to a notification in Alfred Remote on my iPad so I don't have to faff about VNC'ing to the machine to check if/when actions complete. This would also be useful when I'm away from my desk in a meeting or something. I have a set up where I can call certain workflows to check statuses of things and then auto generate and send an email with the results to me, this solution while working isn't quite as elegant, or as ideal, as I would like. Cheers
 23. IMO, the single biggest impediment to organizing my workflows is the inability to multiple-select or click-and-drag to select workflow objects. I'd like to be able to higlight a chain of objects to move them around within a workflow, for example. Or to drag all of my objects within the workflow to the top of the workflow window. But I can't multiple-select them. Even better would be to click-and-drag to select them. I can't even select-all. And how about a one-click 'tidy' command? Like the mac desktop, it could snap-to-grid and/or more efficiently use the workflow creation window. Thanks!
 24. As best as I can tell, any output to STDERR will cause Alfred to prefix the output with [ERROR: alfred.workflow.input.scriptfilter] in the debugger. While more experienced users/developers will recognise that [ERROR: alfred.workflow.input.scriptfilter] Code 0: (especially if Alfred also show results) means that there wasn't actually an error, this behaviour is misleading for less expert users because Alfred's debugger says there was an ERROR when there actually was none. Alfred should not automatically prefix output to STDERR with ERROR. ERROR should only be printed if the exit code is non-zero and/or the returned XML was invalid. Otherwise it's misleading and causes users to report errors that aren't errors. There may well actually be something wrong, but as Alfred's default behaviour is the same in the case of zero results and an actual error (i.e. show fallback searches), it can easily result in users reporting an "error" when they're just getting an empty result set. I'm posting this in Bug Reports because it's logically wrong to report ERROR when there isn't actually one.
 25. I just updated all of my workflows manually by going through the forum and redownloading each one. I tried Alleyoop a while ago, but it was hit-or-miss and I understand it's not being developed any more. Is there a current method of batch-updating workflows, or are we still waiting on one to be developed? Thanks!
