  2. I just looked through the programming guide for LaunchBar 6 "actions" which are their equivalent of workflows. Alfred, in general, has more comprehensive workflow support (not even counting the GUI layout tool), but LaunchBar 6 has some features it would be nice to see in Alfred: - Scripts can be marked to be killed if they don't return before the next keypress, e.g., user types 'A', script searches the internet, user types 'B', script is killed and re-run with 'AB' This is an overall feature that's been requested many times but I don't think anyone actually mentioned killing the currently running script. - Scripts support either 'strings' or 'paths' I believe a script that takes a path gets path completion support in the LaunchBar entry box. - Scripts can return a 'string', a 'path' or a complex result LaunchBar assumes defaults for everything if your script just returns a string or a path instead of XML, JSON, etc. - Environment variables are passed to the script w/various paths and information about the state of the option key, command key, etc. - LaunchBar can accept script output in JSON, XML or a property list XML I don't care about property list XML, but I would love if JSON was an option. - Items returned by a script can include a quicklook URL - Items can indicate another script to run to get the next 'level' of items, e.g., a multi-level menu - Items can directly list out the next 'level' of items Various Alfred scripts now have hacks that "re-call" the script and mimic multiple levels of results. LaunchBar bakes it into the workflow model. - LaunchBar actions are code signed - LaunchBar supports using JavaScriptCore as a scripting language - Scripts can marked to be initiated by LaunchBar but LaunchBar immediately returns (doesn't wait for output)
  3. Hi everyone! So apologies if this is a crazy question, but I'm having a little trouble understanding how to pass data between scripts. In my first php script, I successfully copy a url to the clipboard (that works great). What I'd like to do now is pass that url onto the second PHP script so I can use it in another way. 1. I'm not quite sure how to have the second script run AFTER the first one. 2. I'm not sure what variable to use to pass the output on, I know it's not {query}, but is there something similar?
  4. Hey, I've been using the new v2 beta since it's launch. I've been impressed with the features and the possibilities and flexibility of the workflow system, it allowed me to replace TextExpander and Keyboard Maestro to a certain extent and I'm a big fan of less. But there is a feature I really miss from LauchBar when navigating the file system. Let's say I have these folders, and I'm navigating them in Alfred. /A Blue Sky Haze /Red River /Purple Haze I remember the folder I'm looking for had something to do with Haze, and I start writing it by pressing "H", it gives me an empty results. Since It's not word matching the actual folder names but checking if the folders there start with the letter "H". I'd love to keep the great abbreviation matching system that Alfred has also available when navigating through the file system with Alfred, as it would really make it easier navigating some larger folder and company servers when project numbers and such are involved? What do you guys think?
  5. Maestro Tell iTunes to play a specific song in your current playlist Filter by title and author Whats the difference between Maestro and the iTunes Mini Player? Well, there is one thing the standard Alfred Mini Player is lacking... search in playlist. It happens (at least to me) very often that i want to hear a specific song in my playlist but don't want to stop listening to the playlist itself. Trivia Source code available at Maestro@Github Powered by alfred.py Alleyoop-support This workflow creates a folder ".maestro-cache" at your home directory which stores all album art of your current playlist. It will cache only once for performance reasons if you want to recache your artworks simply use the command "maestro recache" Download it here: Maestro.alfredworkflow greetings Kasoki

  7. Hi, i'm using OSX 10.9.2 i'm using Alfred v2 (243) My Problem is that after some time Alfred can't find 'Mouse' any longer. I was able to fix the Problem by 'Rebuilding the OSX Metadata', a few weeks later Alfred again is unable to find 'Mouse'. Clearing the 'Application Cache' didn't help in any way. The strange thing is that all other prefPanes can still be found 'Keyboard', 'Notifications' and so on... Thanks, Jonas
  8. So, has anyone made or heard of one? Really would love to see the forecast by hour so i don't have to Google it.
  9. Hello Alfred Community ! I am an old french Alfred user, who discovered Alfred v1 on the Mac App Store's selection "Best of 2012" and today I have a question : Why don't put Alfred v2 on the Mac App Store too ? It's really amazing for a lot of features, which are goods for the Alfred's developers and for us, the users : - Big visibility for the app, good tool to be well-know by a lot of mac users (who are ready to pay the license) for the developers - A central for our licenses, so if we change our Mac, it's easy to reinstall Alfred and keep its license - Automatically the updates of Alfred v2, transparently - Integrated purchases with the credit card link to our apple ID, more simple for us to pay And even if you don't want to put the basic license at 17£ for lifetime, you can propose a new app in v3, so only people who paid the lifetime license can have a code to update to the new version. There are. I'm really close to pay for Alfred, but I want to know your position about the Mac App Store, and maybe I will wait for the introduction of the app to buy the lifetime license, for your AMAAAAAZZZZIIIING JOB ! Thanks you for reading me. Lucas, a french student who loves Alfred !
  10. I've created a handy workflow a while ago and I want it to share with you. What it does: You type tattoo in Alfred followed by your idea and it will open up Tattoo related websites like Google Images, Tumblr, Pinterest... DOWNLOAD LINK Feedback and suggestions are appreciated. Maybe we can improve this workflow together.
  11. I've run into a problem when trying to execute a Python script in Alfred. The script is basically running a subprocess using a program located at /opt/random/bin/. When I run the script, I get the following debug. [ERROR: alfred.workflow.action.script] Code 127: /bin/bash: /opt/random/bin/tool "/Users/ritashugisha/Downloads/file.txt" "/Users/ritashugisha/Downloads/new.txt": No such file or directory So I looked at the $PATH that Alfred was using... bump = open('/Users/ritashugisha/Desktop/path.txt', 'w') proc = subprocess.Popen(['echo $PATH'], stdout = subprocess.PIPE, shell = True) (proc, proc_e) = proc.communicate() bump.write(str(proc)) bump.close() and found the following: /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin This doesn't include what I need it to include. So do you have any ideas for tricks to get around this? Or am I approaching this the wrong way? Thanks for any help you provide!
  12. Manage Synology Download Station directly from Alfred: view, create, pause, resume or delete tasks, and also can change some settings such as enable/disable eMule or enable/disable schedule. 13. TumblrBackup Backup any Tumblr site via Alfred This is a quick workflow that I use on a day to day basis. Figured that maybe someone else might want to use it too. This workflow allows the user to enter any URL to any Tumblr site (formatted http://x.tumblr.com/), then Alfred will backup all data of that site to folder on the user's machine. I find this workflow most useful when I need to mass download my previous uploads or save my entire Tumblr site locally. Small workflow, but useful all the same. Download HERE
  14. Hello, a while back I found a little AppleScript for OmniFocus users. The author is Shawn Blanc. It is used to have access to the Quick-Entry Pane, even if OmniFocus isn't running at the moment. Set-up: the workflow should be triggered with the same keyboard shortcut you use to activate the OmniFocus Quick-Entry Pane. This way you won't have to worry about starting OmniFocus to use your Quick-Entry Pane, it's always ready! I just put the script into a workflow and added a trigger. The only thing you have to do is choose the shortcut and you're done. download the workflow here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1wnhuk0jr3v8ot8/OopsieFocus.alfredworkflow Credits go to: http://shawnblanc.net/2011/06/oopsiefocus/ Hope you enjoy this, (it's pretty useful if you happen to use the Quick-Entry Pane as often as I do) Daniel.
  15. Hello, forum I started using Alfred 43 minutes ago, ending my long standing command+space relationship with Spotlight. I'm running Mavericks GM. I just noticed that when using the Dictionary define function, if the dictionary is already open on another space, Alfred doesn't shift to that space. It doesn't bring the dictionary in focus on the same space either. Not a big issue, but just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing anything. Thanks for the wonderful application. It took me less than 10 minutes to fall in love. Regards Raptor UPDATE: I wanted to add that the Dictionary app does get selected but no window comes up from another Space.

  17. Guys and Gals, I had an interesting issue last night where there was an erroneous entry in my Default Browser drop-down in Safari Preferences, as illustrated below: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92027174/Screen%20Shot%202013-07-30%20at%209.05.26%20PM.jpg The Wondershare App that is displayed was not even on my system any more, and DEFINITELY was not a browser. I figured that there would be a phantom plist somewhere. I typed 'Wondershare' into Alfred, and there WERE a few bits and pieces listed which I removed, but this did not fix the issue. I typed Wondershare into Spotlight, and Wondershare.plist appeared in the Developers section. I deleted it, and rebooted my Mac. The Wondershare entry illustrated above disappeared! I was very happy. My questions: 1) Why didn't Alfred find 'Wondershare.plist', but Spotlight did? and 2) What do I need to change in Alfred setting to make sure that plist files are displayed in future? Cheers, Smurf
  18. I keep getting the update popup 'Alfred v2.0.6 (203) is now available'. I update and relaunch but it will still popup at a random time or when I open another application. Anyone else having this issue? I'm on Mountain lion.
  19. I don't know if this is possible so i am posting it here. Let's say I have three mounted disks and I only want to unmount two of them. ASOT I have to repeat the process "Eject disk X" two times. What I do like to do is type the keyword of the workflow that unmount disks, select all the disk I want to unmount and click enter. Another use case, when using the buffer, I have to type the name of the file I want to add, hit alt+up for any file I want to add. I would like to have to type the name of the file I want to add, select all the files and I hit and special shortcut to add them to the buffer. One could select the files by clicking or a la Finder (ie with a shortcut shift+down).
  20. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I cannot figure out why Alfred will not switch between my mac desktop screens. Example: I have spotify and mail in one screen, then I have chrome in another, and photoshop in another. Say I am in screen 3 (using photoshop) and I pull up Alfred and type spotify and hit enter - It does not move me to that first screen where spotify is. Is there a fix?
  21. Pressing right arrow while browsing file on Alfred, a list of action comes up including "Move to...". Pressing right arrow on that option will yield 3 results, Documents, Desktop and Application. However, I'd like to add some custom folders, which I access on a regular basis. Is this possible? Thank you for any help!
  22. Get Google Cache of a URL with this workflow! Easy to use: In Alfred, enter the following and press Enter: cache URL Download Alfred Cache here.
  23. There are several Spotify alfred workflows that use the Spotify API, but are painfully slow. This is a very simple workflow, but is very fast. The keyword "SP" followed by a search automatically plays the track. For this to work best, just type song and artist. i.e.: "sp paradise coldplay". The great thing is it searches Spotify using its online XML search and sorts by popularity. Which is why you can be unspecific on your searches and it'll still work. If you wanted to listen to the song "I Want Crazy" by Hunter Hayes, you could just search "sp crazy hayes" and it still plays the track within three seconds. download it here: http://goo.gl/5xavj
