  1. Hi there, at work we have a folders structure that goes something light that: - PROJECT NAME - PROJECT NAME CITY NAME1 - PROJECT NAME CITY NAME2 - PROJECT NAME CITY NAME3 - PROJECT NAME CITY NAME4 - Etc. And file names work the same way. That means we have many folders and files starting with the same name. When I use Alfred to search for a folder or file and it doesn't appear in the results and it doesn't appear in the 40 results displayed, how do I push Alfred to find it and make it appear in future searches? Thank you for your help, I love how I keep discovering new use for Alfred, time after time. Rad
  2. How can i add some app to this menu? I want to open folders in vscode from this dialog.
  3. Friends: ((First please excuse me if this question has been asked a million times but I couldn't find the workflow try as I might)) Newbie starting to love Alfred 3. I've searched the forums and tried some workflows with no luck. How do I create a new folder in the current finder window? Most gratefully, Migs PS: New Folder.alfredworkflow doesn't do anything and has no instructions
  4. When I invoke Alfred, type "Space" + "[Folder Name]" I can then select the folder, and use the right arrow to navigate into it. Nice! However, I also have Mac aliases on my drive that have easy-to-remember names. I'd like to be able to do the same in Alfred. But when I type "Space" + "[Alias Name]" then use the right arrow, it takes me to the containing folder of the alias and not the content of the aliased folder. Is there any way to get aliases to replicate the behavior of folders? Thanks, Pat
  5. One of the major annoyances I have when wanting to go inside a folder that's in some complicated path is actually writing the whole path. In Terminal, I can define aliases and use Tab completion, but I am hoping Alfred can help me achieve more and easier. I know it already has path navigation, with included Tab completion. But here's a scenario I'm thinking of and suggesting for possible implementation. Say I have a couple of PDFs in a path such as `$HOME/Dropbox/school/cs/1st-year/swift/problem-books-swift/` and I know the author of the book is Alfred McMac. But maybe I have more than one of his books and I can't remember the title. Assuming I only have one folder called "problem-books-swift", I'm hoping Alfred could help me search directly in that folder. For example, I could input "problem-books-swift/ Alfred McMac" and it would limit the searches to that folder only. Is this possible in the present version, i.e. to limit the searches to a certain folder? If so, how would you do this? If not, would you consider implementing it? Is it feasible, do you find it useful? Thank you and many congrats yet again on a totally awesome vital app I'm using from a couple of years!
  6. Hi, I made a simple an apple script to open a specific folder triggered by a hotkey, but it's not working and I can't find why. It works if I use the Script Editor from Mac OS but when I paste it inside the "Run NSAppleScript" window on Alfred it doesn't. Script: on alfred_script(q) property the_path : "/Users/UserXXX/Downloads" set the_folder to (POSIX file the_path) as alias tell application "Finder" activate if front Finder window exists then set target of front Finder window to the_folder else open the_folder end if end tell end alfred_script
  7. I often use Alfred to open a folder in a specific application. When I locate the folder in Alfred, and select "open with..." the default options are just Terminal and Finder. Is there a way to edit those defaults?
  8. Help: I want to get rid of the folders/tabs in my search window (see image above). How do I do that? I accidentally took action on a couple of searches and some Finder-entries got stuck to my search window. I used some kind of key-combination which I'm unsure of what it was now. I searched the docs but can't find anything about this feature. Thank you in advance.
  9. Hi all, Brand new Alfred user here. I have a folder in Dropbox that should be visible to Alfred. I can find other path-adjacent folders with no trouble. But this folder doesn't appear in Alfred. I can browse to it in Alfred. This folder is called "Logos" and the Alfred search for "Logos" returns other hits, but things that should be lower down in search results—items that have "logos" midway through their filenames, for example. What am I missing? Thanks! Jack
  10. I do a lot of WordPress development and so have a lot of folders called 'wp-content' in my Sites folder. I have file filter that searches only within Sites, then I type "wp-co" and all the wp-content folders are listed. I can see their paths under their names and scroll to the one I want. Not bad, but I'd like something even better. What I'm really after is a file filter that when I type 'wp-cxc' will show me all the wp-content folders with "xc" (such as "Sites/xchange/wp-content/ ) in the path name. Or 'wp-cap' for all wp-content folders that have "ap" in the path. The problem I'm having is that Alfred doesn't search in the path name, so if I activate my filter and type, for example 'wp-cxchange' Alfred won't return the "wp-content" folder in the parent directory that contains 'xchange'. So is there a way to do this with the basic Workflow building blocks or will I need a script? Thanks!
  11. Hi and good day, Say mostly I want to access: /Volumes/LC1/Documents-LC1/_HTo/… Is there not a simpler way than to always paste the path into the search field? Should I set this as default somewhere in the prefs? ( haven't found anything there. ) (And please if where could one read more about this, - chapter no.?) / with best regards, Omar K N Stockholm, Sweden
  12. someone at work keeps duplicating files and putting them into a folder on the server... i still need to search this server but dont want to open their duplicates by mistake.... how do i "hide" a folder from alfred?
  13. Hi I am a long time user of Alfred from when it first cam out, but I haven't delved into the power pack side of things yet and wanted to be able to create an action for Alfred that will create a folder structure on my external HDD. I'm a freelance designer and for every job I create a job folder on my external HDD within a folder called jobs with a unique number and customer name . Within that I usually create some sub folders like "original files" "native files" "files to print" etc. I would like to be able to create this as a command in Alfred and didn't know if it was easy as my coding skills are limited! I have created workflows in the past on systems that you drag and drop certain actions and maybe tweak what its to do, but didn't know if alfred power pack was the same kinda thing? I have had a look around to see if someone has already created something similar on alfredworkflows.com, but there is that many different flows on there its hard to spot. Any help would be appreciated, its just one of those things that would make things a little easier when starting new project. Thanks Matt
  14. I opened Alfred and hit 'op' to open something but it finds actual documents or emails and not Folders first == I want to work out a fast way to open a folder in my user folder, or attached drive, and this would do it other than it goes to a file instead. Thanks much.
  15. Is there any way to filter the contents of a folder? For instance, if I browse to a folder in Alfred, then I want to only show the files that END with the word "Test", then how would I do that? Simply typing "Test" only shows files that BEGIN with that phrase.
  16. Often I'm just looking for a folder, but get files (and other stuff too) that have a similar name as search results. I'm looking for a solution to use a specific operator to only search for folders.
  17. A simple applescript to recursively delete all empty folders and subfolders in the frontmost Finder window. Original script by twtwtw (https://discussions.apple.com/people/twtwtw), found here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4478767 Download the workflow here.
  18. As a new Powerpack user, I've been downloading several great workflows that I'm already using many times a day. However, a workflow I couldn't find is one that opens a terminal window and sets the current working directory based the results of an Alfred query. So I created my own and I'm sharing it here in case others find it useful. What it Does: Opens a new terminal window and sets thw current working directory based on an Alfred query that only considers folder names. 19. After I set sync folder in my dropbox folder my custom settings of alfred app are always drops to default settings (custom settings I mean: disabled HAT in search form, custom web search queries and etc). The settings are used only by one instance of program on one computer, I set sync folder only for settings backup not for sharing. Thanks.
  20. Hey guys! I'm pretty new to Alfred in terms of developing workflows. I have done a couple but nothing notable. The idea is I am trying to display what is in my root folder, which is where I house all the folders I use for development. Then whichever one I selected would open in Sublime Text (ST3). I thought I could get something from this recent downloads workflow because it displays the downloads folder in alfred, but I don't know ruby. If I could display the root folder like this and then whichever one I selected would open in ST3 that would be great. I also thought this Open in Sublime Text workflow would help but I don't know AppleScript either. I do have some experience with PHP however. Any help would be awesome!
  21. Hello, I hope my question is not yet asked somewhere else. So, I've just created a simple and straight forward workflow to make a folder tree. It works fine when interpreted in terminal, but in Alfred the tree is created into the workflow folder. I've seen here that the relative path is always the path trelative to the workflow folder. My question is probably noobish but… how can get the path of the folder I'm in at the time I launch Alfred to make my request ? Any hint would be appreciated.
  22. Hi, In Alfred Prefs > File Search > Advanced I set there [x] use custom home folder as: /Volumes/main_HD/Users/omarkn/Documents/_Wie_HowTo for opening files in this folder. But when I write open in Alfred, I only get OPEN FILE with CMD 4, this is not specific - ? What else to do, or can I read somewhere in a tutorial? with best regards, Omar K N (Stockholm, Sweden)
  23. Simple workflow that will tidy up your current Finder folder but leave files with name extension MKV, AVI and SRT. If you'd like it to filter differently just edit script file. I use it to erase all unwanted files after unpacking a movie or TV-show. You should know that this is my first Alfred workflow, use at own risk. Please post helpful comments. 24. In file navigation, I don't like remembering when I can use ↩ to enter a directory (e.g. move operations vs. normal navigation). ⌘↓ is nice, but I usually end up removing my hands from typing position to hit that hotkey. It only takes one ⌫ to exit a directory. It would be awesome if typing a single / would enter a directory. Thanks
  25. Hey Alfred team, I would love it if we could have folders for our workflows. Once you get a bunch of them (especially ones you don't need to change a lot) it really is a messy list of workflows that the addition of folders could fix. Thanks a lot. Seriously love this app.
