  1. Here is my problem. I modify a lot of strings cases these last days (ie Lower case to uppercase "my_file" to "MY_FILE"). After some research, I found I could use these TextExpander perl scripts (here) to solve the problem. But I believed Alfred could make it faster, better, smoother. What I want to do is select the name of my file, hit a hotkey, see the name of my file converted to uppercase/lowercase/sentence case... I tried to create a workflow with a "Selection in OSX" and a "Run Script" command. But it doesn't work. I should say, I couldn't make it work... I thought copying th
  2. I've run into a problem when trying to execute a Python script in Alfred. The script is basically running a subprocess using a program located at /opt/random/bin/. When I run the script, I get the following debug. [ERROR: alfred.workflow.action.script] Code 127: /bin/bash: /opt/random/bin/tool "/Users/ritashugisha/Downloads/file.txt" "/Users/ritashugisha/Downloads/new.txt": No such file or directory So I looked at the $PATH that Alfred was using... bump = open('/Users/ritashugisha/Desktop/path.txt', 'w') proc = subprocess.Popen(['echo $PATH'], stdout = subprocess.PIPE, shell = True
  3. Hello, a while back I found a little AppleScript for OmniFocus users. The author is Shawn Blanc. It is used to have access to the Quick-Entry Pane, even if OmniFocus isn't running at the moment. Set-up: the workflow should be triggered with the same keyboard shortcut you use to activate the OmniFocus Quick-Entry Pane. This way you won't have to worry about starting OmniFocus to use your Quick-Entry Pane, it's always ready! I just put the script into a workflow and added a trigger. The only thing you have to do is choose the shortcut and you're done. download the workfl
  4. I'm new to the update of alfred 2 and I'm having some problems when creating a workflow. i would like to run the following script: cd /application/language/nl_BE/LC_MESSAGES/ grep -v '^#: ' common.po > common.po.tmp && mv common.po.tmp common.po It works perfectly when I choose 'Actions -> run script' but nothing happens while when I use 'Actions -> terminal command' it works.
  5. I am working on a workflow which should execute a shell script command for of the documents (*.xml files) currently selected in the Finder. I did some experiments around it, but could not get it to work yet. Any pointers, e.g. what workflow elements I will need? I am currently thinking along the lines of first calling an applescript which gives me the selected files, then filtering out only the xml files and lastly calling a shell script for each of the files or alternatively calling the script once but passing along an array of xml files. What do you guys think? Thanks for any su
  6. I have multiple Workflow scripts that I call with Keywords; these each call a shell script that performs an xterm open command on a given machine/location. These worked fine every time I called them under Mountain Lion, but under Mavericks they "stack up", allowing only a single one to run at a time. As soon as I close the first one for a given destination machine (i.e., a single shortcut script), the next one opens. I cannot have two windows open on the same machine as I could before updating to Mavericks. Running Alfred v2.1 (218), downloaded today (10/28), still happens. The odd thi
  7. Hello, I hope my question is not yet asked somewhere else. So, I've just created a simple and straight forward workflow to make a folder tree. It works fine when interpreted in terminal, but in Alfred the tree is created into the workflow folder. I've seen here that the relative path is always the path trelative to the workflow folder. My question is probably noobish but… how can get the path of the folder I'm in at the time I launch Alfred to make my request ? Any hint would be appreciated.
  8. Hi, It seems that I have had trouble following the (simple) instructions I've seen on various messages in the forum. To explain my problem: Even though I printed the value that I wanted to return from my script, it was neither outputed in the "post notification" section or copied to my clipboard. My entire python script is: print {query} and the only code I have in "copy to clipboard" is: {query} as well as the text section in "post notification": {query} Yet nothing shows up! Could someone kindly point me to Alfred Documentation? It seems that my googling powers ar
  9. Hello, Can anybody tell me what i have to do to start the maintenance scripts with an workflow ? I mean the sudo periodic daily, weekly, monthly scripts. Sorry for the bad english !!!!!!!!! Best Regards jm1982
  10. In Alfred V1 w/ Powerpack I was able to run a bash script and assign a hot key to it. I don't see where I can do that with Workflows. Am I missing something?
  11. I have a script that searches an online file system. Currently, when I find the file I want and hit enter it just runs a script to open the URL of the document in the browser. However, I would like to now update it to give me a selection of actions I can take (e.g. copy url, open document, download document). I can't figure out how to create the secondary menu. I know that I could just create multiple scripts and assign them different modifier keys, but I would like to be able to visualize the list (not just have to remember the keys). Is there a way to create second menu?
  12. Would it be possible to have the ability to edit scripts in workflows in an editor of our choice? Perhaps having one added option in Alfred's prefs to select an 'editor' ... then, when we double click on the script in a workflow, having a button (perhaps beside "open workflow folder") that says "Edit in External Editor." This would leave the default alone for quick and dirty stuff, yet allow others to load/modify the scripting in any of the multitude of editors out there that have all the color coding, command references and all that jive. I for one find it a 'tiny' but of a pain h
  13. Bash scripts launched by Alfred in the context of workflows don't respect the OS X user's locale and instead default to the generic "C" locale. Alfred should use the same locale that is used when a user starts an interactive shell in Terminal.app (For instance, running locale in Terminal on my US-English system returns: LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MESSAGES="en_US.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="en_US.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="en_US.UTF-8" LC_TIME="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL= ) To verify the problem, use the following test workflow: download and install https://dl
  14. Excuse my ignorance: I've never used Applescripts apart from just double-clicking them in Finder and running them. In Alfred 1 I set up a hotkey to take the current URL in an open Safari browser window and open it in Chrome. All I did was to choose the hotkey, then browse to the .scpt file (previously downloaded and saved in ~/Library/Scripts/Safari) and select it. In Alfred 2 there doesn't appear to be a similar capability. You only seem to be able to actually write a script, rather than just point to one that has already been created and saved as a .scpt file. I have tried setting up
  15. Hey guys, I'm creating a workflow that will search a (guitar tab database) website for the current song you are listening to iTunes. Unfortunately, I am very amateur with scripts. I hadn't really looked at one until today! I have a script that copies the song name and artist to my clipboard (using the line "set the clipboard to (nom & art)") however, I was wondering how you can get it instead to set "nom & art" to the query for the next step of the workflow? I know this is incredibly amateur, but thanks in advance for the help! Ned
  16. Hi there I would like to run a python script with an Alfred workflow but I realized that the python version I run in the terminal is not the same Alfred is running The python I use was installed with homebrew, and my path is set up so I run the "brew installed" python which is 2.7.3 and is located here: $ which python $ /usr/local/bin/python I setup my script to print out the python version with this statement: $ print(sys.version) When I run it in the terminal I get 2.7.3, but the workflow notification prints out 2.7.2 The shebang in my script.py is #!/usr/bin/env python
  17. Hi, I have a difference of behavior when I execute a ksh script in a "Run script" action in Alfred and in a terminal. The code is as following: SPEC_CHAR="ÀÁÂÃÄÅÆÇÈÉÊËÌÍÎÏÐÑÒÓÔÕÖØÙÚÛÜÝÞßàáâãäåæçèéêëìíîïðñòóôõöøùúûüýþÿ" NORM_CHAR="AAAAAAACEEEEIIIIDNOOOOOOUUUUYPSaaaaaaaceeeeiiiionoooooouuuuyby" mystring="têté" mystring=$(print $mystring | sed 'y/'${SPEC_CHAR}'/'${NORM_CHAR}'/') echo "$mystring" When I execute in terminal, I have: /Users/vincent/Downloads> ksh repro.ksh tete But when I execute it in Alfred (see workflow with reproduction here http://d.pr/f/ShJl ), I ge
  18. Hello everyone, I created a workflow to toggle iTunes iOS device backup. Those backups often take far too much time and space and are unneeded for most of my syncs. This is my first attempt at coding anything other than java so please forgive my crude use of code. The iTunes process will automatically be killed and then restarted so make sure you're not using it for anything important before running the workflow. Please let me know if you find it useful - George Download here: http://drgg.cc/f20P
  19. First of all, what a great community. Thanks for your help, work and sharing it. Now I hope there is help for my problem. Unter Alfred V1 I was using a Applescript and it worked well. The Script opens Firefox and did a login on a special website. Now with V2 the script starts but opens 2 firefox windows. Could anybody please help me and fix the script or build a workflow? Sorry.. I'm a complete newbie. openFirefoxURL("https://specialwebsite.de/") on openFirefoxURL(x) return do shell script "open -a Firefox" & space & quoted form of x end openFirefoxURL tell
  20. I'm trying to create a new mysql database as part of a workflow in a Script action, but nothing seems to be happening. I've tried: mysql -uroot -pMYPASS -e 'create database {query}' > /dev/null 2>&1 and usr/local/bin/mysql -uroot -pMYPASS -e "create database {query}" > /dev/null 2>&1 but I'm not getting anything created in MySQL. I have the > /dev/null 2>&1 in there so it doesn't throw exceptions that prevents {query} from getting passed to an Output Script. Any ideas on how to get the db created?
  21. There are a few things I want to do with workflows, but I don't want to have to plead for someone else to write the script for me. Could someone direct me to an online resource to learn the basics of script that will work in Alfred workflows? Thanks!
  22. Hello, I wrote a script to use in a workflow. That script uses the command growlnotify to display a notification. When I run the script from the terminal, the notification is displayed. When running with Alfred, nothing appears. Thanks.
  23. I'm writing script filters that return file results in the XML format described elsewhere in this forum (example below). The filter works fine in that I can invoke it in Alfred and I see the correct results presented by Alfred. I expected to be able to manually use right-arrow to invoke actions on the results. Unfortunately, the right-arrow doesn't seem to have any effect. I can wire up a specific action in the workflow and that works, but I'd like it to be manually specified. (BTW, I have also tried file filters and they allow manual actions to be performed on their results. However,
