jav
Hi everyone, I am new with Alfred and I am loving it so far. I am an avid user of the "searching inside files" tool and was wondering if there is a way to automate the following process: When I type "in xxxxxxx" and open a doc (usually hundred-page pdfs) I have realised that I usually have to press cmd+F and type xxxxxxx again to do the search again. So I find myself doing the same search twice (one to find the file, another to find the area inside the file) I have been looking in the internet for a way to automate it and tried to create a workflow but haven't been successful. I would appreciate any help, Thank you! Link to comment
deanishe
What you're looking for is the "find pasteboard". It's a special pasteboard that well-behaved apps use as the default query when you run their find function. The default keyboard shortcut to copy selected text to the find pasteboard is ⌘E, but unfortunately Alfred doesn't support this. You can test it in Safari by selecting a word, then hitting ⌘E to copy the word, then ⌘F to open the find box. The text you copied will be in the find box. Ideally, @Andrew would add support for ⌘E or automatically put the query on the find pasteboard, but until then, the simplest solution would be for you to remember to copy your query before actioning a result, so you can then paste it into the search box in Preview (or whatever). You can populate the find pasteboard from a workflow, but you can't integrate that with Alfred's built-in search. Edited October 14, 2018 by deanishe Link to comment
