If you want the workflow to be compatible with Alfred 3, you need to build it in Alfred 3.

 

What I do is symlink the workflow to both Alfred 3’s and Alfred 4’s workflow directories. That way I can use Alfred 4 but edit the workflow in Alfred 3 Preferences, and not break backwards compatibility.
