Alfred & Opera

Recommended Posts

In the past, while performing a search through Alfred while Opera isn't running, Opera would open with the "search" tab (Googled, Amazon, Wikipedia, etc.) as the only tab. Now, Opera opens with the "search" tab as well as a "homepage" tab, with the "homepage" tab being focused on.

This problem does not occur when I perform the same Alfred launch/search through Google Chrome, so I believe it to be an issue with the way Alfred handles the requests to Opera.

The problem also does not occur when Opera is closed (no windows) but still running. The extra homepage tab only occurs when Opera is launched along with the search.

Somehow there seems no way to circumvent this..!

It's a problem with the way Opera handles incoming "open" commands.

Alfred uses the standard macOS mechanism for opening files/URLs in other programs. The exact same thing happens when opening URLs in Opera from any other application.

There is a way, but it's complicated. The best thing to do is to file a bug report with Opera.
