cdispoto
New Event My mid-2010 Macbook Pro cannot update past macOS High Sierra 10.13.6. Alfred search function has not been working for some time. I'e looked in the forum but haven't seen any recent solutions. Not sure if the one posted years ago are still worth trying. Link to comment
Vero
@cdispoto Which version of Alfred are you using? Cheers, Vero Link to comment
cdispoto
I’ve uninstalled it now but I had upgraded to Alfred 4 Link to comment
Andrew
@cdispoto If you open Alfred's Preferences to the help tab, then select troubleshooting, and run the file search troubleshooting, this should give a bit more info as to why a file or app can't be found in Alfred. Post the output from a failed run here and I'll take a look Cheers, Andrew Link to comment
cdispoto
OK I used the Mail app to test the troubleshooter and here is what it came back with: Starting Diagnostics... File: 'Mail.app' Path: '/Applications' ----------------------------------------------------------- Check file cache database... ✅ File cache integrity is ok ----------------------------------------------------------- Check if file is readable... ✅ Alfred has permissions to read this file. ----------------------------------------------------------- Check file is in search scope... ✅ File exists within Alfred's default search scope ----------------------------------------------------------- Check if volume '/' is indexed by macOS... ⚠️ Indexing may not be enabled on this drive /: Error: unexpected indexing state. kMDConfigSearchLevelTransitioning ----------------------------------------------------------- Check direct file metadata... ⚠️ Direct metadata is missing, this file is likely not indexed by macOS ----------------------------------------------------------- Check mdls file metadata... ❌ macOS metadata missing essential items /Applications/Mail.app: could not find /Applications/Mail.app. ----------------------------------------------------------- ❌ Troubleshooting failed Link to comment
Vero
@cdispoto These results indicate that there's a deeper indexing issue on your Mac, outside of Alfred. The first step is to restart your Mac and see whether the message has changed. If it remains the same and your index doesn't appear to rebuild, take a look at these two threads, which refer to the same error message you're seeing. https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/254039/spotlight-borked-after-macos-sierra-update https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/3wwjwx/spotlight_search_doesnt_search_applications_after/ Do you have any idea why your index may be corrupted/disabled? Did you use any "database optimising" software that may have fettled with these settings such as Onyx? Cheers, Vero Link to comment
