Google Drive — List File Stream contents from Google Drive

I have other workflows which use the same technique, in case you want to share the files you have in that folder.

There were only about 5 files in that folder. I deleted all but the ones for Canva and Tunnelbear.

Should I be looking somewhere else for the cause of this notification?

/Library/LaunchAgents, maybe. You should also be able to turn them off in System Settings → General → Login Items. Unfortunately, that interface is not helpful in finding the origin.

Google release a new version of drive that attaches different (now a "location).  The google drive workflow will search and find the file it seems, but I cannot open it (it does nothing when I select the file I want to open).  I tried changing the setting for the new "location" but does not seem to help.  Support suggested I post this diagnotic file, but this site does not allow that file type.  Thanks.

@jgla I proposed that you post a reply here:

And include the output of typing "!gddiagnostic", which is the specific output of the Google Drive workflow's diagnostics (which is different from the Alfred diagnostics you sent me by email) :)

Hope this helps, and welcome to the forum!

Cheers,
Vero

After you correct the location, you have to run :gdrebuildcache and wait for it to finish. Otherwise it’s checking the old data. You have quite a number of files, so it can take a while.

It will always do something. Even if it’s just a message. Open the debugger, set the log output to “All Information”, perform the failing action, and post the output. But only after the previous step and waiting.

Welcome @Victor Chor,

Please don’t open the same issue in multiple places, and please explain what you’re facing and what you tried instead of just a diagnostics dump.

Your case is explained at the top of the thread and on GitHub. I’ve replied there to keep the conversation to one place.

Hi,

Sorry for the issue.

If I have two Google Drive accounts are login to my Mac, can I save both paths to the Google Drive Alfred workflow?

Yes, that is explained in the instructions under the field where you set the path. Separate the paths with commas.

How long has it been happening? Is the version to update always the same (you can see it in the window)? Are you sure you only have one version of the workflow installed?

  1. Delete every installation of the workflow.
  2. Install this version.
  3. Run :gdrebuildcache.

Lets see if that fixes it.

In the future, please ask questions about a workflow in its own thread. Everyone benefits from it because the conversation is focused and the people who can help you are notified.

In addition, as requested please provide the output of !gddiagnostic.

Open Alfred and type that.

Now Google Drive has the "Enable Spotlight to search streaming files" option (disabled by default and buried in the settings, because what the heck Google?!), which means that DFS is now up to, what, early 2000's feature set? So, what are the odds that you could add an option to do full content indexing to this workflow? That's really the nice thing about Spotlight, after all. If I remembered what I named the dang file/folder, I'd probably already know where it was, right?

I don’t get what you’re asking for. Still, two things to note:

  • The method the Google Drive app is using to show up in Spotlight is a different API. Results show up slower and they’re not added to the index with all other files.
  • Some people have reported that with Google Drive’s switch to the macOS File Provider API, files now show under regular Alfred searches. It’s not yet clear why it’s not the same for everyone, but try that too:

You may need to go into Alfred Preferences → Features → Default Results → Search Scope → Reset… (bottom right) and try some of the options. If it works, It’d be useful to know which of the settings made it work for you.

I'm asking for the plugin to (optionally) maintain an index not just of file/folder names, but of file content. If I search for "cheese," I want to see anything with "cheese" in the name, and also anything with "cheese" anywhere in the contents of the file itself. I was surprised to find that Google Drive's Spotlight integration actually does seem to include content indexing. I haven't pushed it very hard, but it did find the cheese when the Alfred plugin didn't.
