Alfred 5 workflows on v4

In many cases, a workflow created in Alfred 5 will also be backwards compatible with Alfred 4.

Having said that, Alfred 5's workflows have taken quite a jump forward both with the editor, and the workflow objects themselves. If you use workflow features specific to Alfred 5, there is a good chance that Alfred 4 will find that workflow incompatible.

I had a number of Alfred 4 workflows and all of them are working perfectly in Alfred 5 so I suspect there's no problem.

as a "workflows creator" this concerns me, not sure if should still be creating workflows on Alfred 4 while people moves to v5

For new ones, go with Alfred 5. It has features to make Workflow creation faster (palette, new shortcuts), easier (Automation Tasks), and more welcoming (About markdown preview, GUI User Configuration). Exploring those in a new Workflow should make it clearer how older Workflows can be enhanced.

Just to clarify, all Alfred 4 workflows will import into Alfred 5 flawlessly.

For developers of workflows, we can run Alfred 4 and 5 side-by-side and the FAQ helpfully suggests:

A few notes for workflow developers

Alfred 5 introduces new Workflow features and extends current ones. While it is possible to create and modify Workflows in Alfred 5 and have them open in Alfred 4, it's preferable not to because you may be introducing a change which won't translate.

If you're a Workflow creator using Alfred 5's Early Access but still need to support Alfred 4, it is best to keep their Preferences separate (you can define different sync locations).

To switch quickly between major versions, you can use a simple "Alfred Switch" Workflow which closes the currently open Alfred and starts the other one.
