Marlouis
Dear Alfred community, I’m facing an issue with Alfred App file indexation since about a week. I’m no longer able to find directly the files I saved using the Space prefix. I guess it has something to do with me disabling most of the Spotlight search options two months ago. Alfred Troubleshooting is at the end of the post. * What you were doing when the issue happened Searching files with Alfred, all other apps and windows closed.* Whether you were able to replicate it a second time by performing the same action Able to replicate, even after restart. * Include any screenshots that might help uS I wrote all the info below.* Include the Alfred version & build number you are using (don't say "latest" - you'll find a version number in the Update tab of Alfred's preferences) Alfred 4.7 [1306]* Include your macOS version macOS Monterey Version 12.3 I followed this guide https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/monterey/ and then this one : https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/#spotlightsettings but I'm stuck at step 5.4 with Indexing disabled showing in Terminal. This post explains the problem https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/146508/spotlight-indexing-and-searching-disabled-message-in-terminal-on-osx-why But I had no luck using : sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.locate.plist Unfortunately I still get : Indexing disabled. I don't know if this problem has nothing to do with Alfred but I may ask for some help since I don't find any solution. *** EDIT *** I now got Indexing enabled. So I managed to end this tutorial https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/#spotlightsettings Unfortunately Alfred file search results are worse than before. Spotlight indexing has ended one hour ago and Alfred shows nearly zero results. Here are my default results configuration and Alfred Troubleshoot message. Regards, Joseph Starting Diagnostics... vitor
First, try rebooting your Mac. Then try searching again. Use the open keyword explicitly. If Alfred doesn’t find the file, does Spotlight? Marlouis
Marlouis
Dear Vitor, thank you for your reply. Rebooting the mac didn't solve the problem but using the open keyword did, thank you ! What should I do in order to use the space Prefix instead of Find/Open keyword such as before ? Best regards,
Stephen_C
Just to check something that is probably obvious (sorry!)… In Alfred Preferences > File Search under Quick Search do you have Enable Quick File Search Mode checked? Marlouis
Dear Stephen, thank you for your kind response. Enable Quick File Search Mode is checked. By the way, everything came back to normal this morning so this post is now solved. Regards, Stephen_C
Marlouis
Nevermind, the issue is still going. My files are indexed but not instantly such as before. I posted a screen recording showing it. Please note that Spotlight doesn't find the file neither. • What you were doing when the issue happened Saving or downloading a file and then searching it with Alfred* Whether you were able to replicate it a second time by performing the same action Able to replicate * Include any screenshots that might help uS Video : Alfred 4.7 [1306]* Include your macOS version macOS Monterey Version 12.3 Thanks for your help. Marlouis
Is there anything I could do now ? I'm willing to clean-install my mac in order to solve the problem...

That’s the crux of it, and what needs to be solved. If you’re willing to try a clean install, without Migration Assistant, I’d go for it. You can also try making a new user account first and see how it behaves there.

Thank you very much Vitor for your response. I'll definitely go for a clean install without Apple Migration Assistant as I face some other problems with MacOs. But what should I do with my Alfred preferences ? I found this post on Syncing Your Altred Settings Between Macs. Could syncing and / or saving those preferences replicate the problem after the clean install ? I have a long list of Snippets and workflow that I'd prefer not to lose during the process. What would you recommend ? Thanks again, Edited October 15, 2022 by Marlouis

Nope, those are safe to sync. The issues lies outside of Alfred, so its preferences won’t affect it. If after the clean install Spotlight were to find the files but Alfred not (unlikely), that would be a separate issue and we should look further into your preferences.
