Cannot Find Image Files when Being Search with Space Bar [Solved]

Recommended Posts

I cannot find images files using Alfred with begin search with a space bar. I have followed in the troubleshooting instruction and the issue still persists.

Basic info:

Hardware: M1 Pro MacBook Pro 14-inch, 2021

Software: macOS Monterey 12.6.5 (up-to-date)

Alfred Version: Alfred 5.0.6 Build 2110, Tuesday 13th December 2022

Besides the troubleshooting steps I mentioned before (rebuilding macOS metadata index), I have restarted my Mac and reinstalled Alfred. The issue persisted for longer than a month now. I recently tested and found that only the image files (.png, .jpeg, and .heic) were not found when I pressed `space bar` to search for file, but showed up when I typed their names directly as if I were looking for an application (images attached). When looking up using the same query on Spotlight, all files appear in the result.

Output from troubleshooting steps:

I think the first question is this: In Alfred Preferences → Features → Default Results do you have Images checked under Extras?

(Although I have to say that I can still find image files without that checked.)

Stephen

Yes! I tried unchecking the `Images` under `Extras`, and images no longer show up when I search directly without space bar. It doesn't solve the main issue that images don't show up when I press space bar though.

@rpornmon Could you please take the following steps?

  • Ensure you're using Alfred 5.1.2
  • In Alfred's Features > Default Results preferences, click "Reset..." in the bottom right of the Search Scope and set it to "Reset to Full Disk"

Search for an image with the spacebar prefix and ensure that you scroll down if there are more results than the number visible. Can you now see your images?

Please give as much details as possible so that we can help you further :)

Hi Vero,

Thank you so much.

  • I already updated to Alfred 5.1.2 before I sent an additional email yesterday, and the issue still persisted.
  • I followed the steps, and I added the screenshot for when I looked up the image file. Both files have the same name and are in the same folders but have different file type. Looking up with the same entry only shows the pdf file in the result but not the jpeg. Spotlight, on the other hand, shows both.

@rpornmon Could you please provide your Diagnostics file, which you can get by typing "?diagnostics" into Alfred? You can then email them to our info@ address and include a reference back to this thread.

Please also include the File Troubleshooter output for a couple of files you're unable to return in the results.

@rpornmon Thanks for sending your Diagnostics file across.

I can see that you've specifically checked images to be excluded from results in Features > File Search > Don't Show. If you uncheck images from the exclusion list, they'll be included in your results when using the "open" keyword / spacebar trick.
