request: start itunes genius from current track

Noone? Is there no way to get a workflow that automatically creates a genius list in itunes 11 from the currently playing song?

The main obstacle is that Genius functionality isn't directly scriptable in Applescript, so it needs to be done with UI scripting, which breaks easily, depends upon the iTunes view, etc.  I have never seen a UI script that uses the new (>) buttons next to tracks, which may not even be Applescriptable, and which are the only way I see to get to Genius functionality in iTunes 11.

 

Once you have a working script, hooking it into Alfred is easy.

dfay is right, this script was written for iTunes 10, and doesn't work anymore with iTunes 11...

 

I wish someone could find a new way to generate genius playlist. Or Apple to make it AppleScriptable.

If you don't care about getting actual Genius data, this workflow http://www.alfredforum.com/topic/2257-dj-pedro-itunes-playlist-based-on-lastfm-similar-artists/?hl=pedro provides the same functionality, using last.fm data on artists.
