bongobong
Hello Community, I'm trying to find a workflow that screenshots a selection and then floats it on top of all other windows until I dismiss it. Basically this: http://eternalstorms.at/ScreenFloat/ScreenFloat_-_Make_your_Shots_fly/ScreenFloat_-_Make_your_Shots_fly!.html When I search "float" in Packal it gives me an error which presumably means there isn't one out there. Any ideas? Guys? Thanks. Link to comment
deanishe
Moving this to the Workflow Help forum, not that it really has anything to do with Alfred and/or workflows. Link to comment

Not exactly. Packal is no longer under active development, so what you’re seeing is a bug. 58 minutes ago, bongobong said: I'm trying to find a workflow that screenshots a selection and then floats it on top of all other windows until I dismiss it. As for your question, it can’t be done. Floating on top is a feature some apps implement, not a system-wide feature you can apply to any app you want. Quicklook used to be able to do it, but not anymore as far as I’m aware. So there isn’t a native app to do it, you’ll always have to use a third-party app (like the one you linked to). deanishe
Sure it could be a workflow. A workflow that starts the other app(s) you've found to do the actual work of selecting an area of the screen, taking a screenshot and floating an image above other windows, because Alfred itself does none of those things. It's quite possible that a forum member knows of some such software, but Ask Different would be a more appropriate place to ask (much better chance of getting an answer). Link to comment
bongobong
Alfred can be used to initiate screen capture. Link to comment

We’re aware it can. 25 minutes ago, bongobong said: No I mean take a screenshot and then float THAT on top. Yes, I understand what you want. And again, it’s not possible without a third-party app. You can’t just “float a screenshot”. However you word it, a screenshot is just a regular image that has to be opened in an app. Said app is what has (or not) the capability to float, not the screenshot itself. However you spin it, with the current state of macOS and its apps, you need a third party app to float a screenshot. As such, the most a workflow can do is take the screenshot and call said app. Might as well buy the one you linked to or find a free one that can do it. deanishe 1 Link to comment
