    thank you, I just had to select the spanish and french dictionaries in the Mac Dictionary app and now it's working fine.

    The Spanish dictionary appears not to return results with the 'define' command (or others). To ensure I am not just being a dumb user I selected the French dictionary and it seems to work fine. I have only just installed Alfred, so have the latest version 2, and my OS version is 10.8.3 Mountain Lion.
