Classic blur removed the oddness but it also does not let you choose a border color, it now defaults to Big Sur's way of handling the borders of transparent elements as you can actually see in the pop-over in the first image below. So it seems like the trade-off is that you are no longer able to custom of the window border color / effect, but it does not look "wonky" anymore.
