Capture text selection?

I tried to find a way to capture selected text (say, in a word processing document) and have Alfred act on it, but so far, no luck. Is there a way to do this other than copying the text, invoking Alfred, and pasting the text? Any help is appreciated.

Look into using the Hotkey trigger. This will allow you to grab the selected text from OSX and passing that into a workflow.
