DannyBoy22 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Hi everyone, I love using the compact wireless Apple keyboard that comes standard with every iMac now. The issue is that occasionally, I like to able to use a number pad (ten key), which those don't have, and I don't want to have to switch back to a full size keyboard to fill that occasional need. So I created this Alfred Workflow that turns the u, i, o, j, k, and l keys into a virtual number pad temporarily, so that you can use it to type in a credit card number, or something like that. Here's how it works: Type in np in Alfred and then press space Type your number using the 7, 8, 9, u, i, o, j, k, and l keys. Feel free to use hyphens or any other characters besides those keys, as those won't be converted into numbers. Alfred will give you a preview of what your converted output will be in the space below where you're typing. Press Enter/Return to paste the output of what you've typed into the app that is currently in focus (if you would prefer for the script to just copy to the clipboard without automatically pasting, you can uncheck the appropriate box in the "Copy to Clipboard" module in the workflow). You can download it from this page on Packal's site. Let me know if you have any questions or experience problems with this. Hope you like using this! Edited April 10, 2017 by DannyBoy22

deanishe Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) Oh right. That's a novel way of doing it. EDIT: and a bit confusing, tbh. Edited April 10, 2017 by deanishe

I guess I underestimated how much traffic/moderation this forum gets. I just had the time to type/set up the rest of the page before, since doing that saved me some time later on when I was actually able to add in my workflow (or at the least the link to it). It's on there now though. Thanks for checking it btw. It's quick responders like you that keep these forums alive and useful.

I really don't like tenkeyless keyboards, and this looks it will make them a bit less maddening. No extra key for 0? BTW, it's "Packal", not "Packel". Edited April 10, 2017 by deanishe

I fixed it now. And yes, I didn't choose to parse any key into "0" because the zero key is already right by the nine key, which the user's hand would already be sitting by. What key would you propose to parse into "0"?

I figured m or , (or both), so the zero is beneath 1 and/or 2, like on a number pad. I mean, yeah, there is a zero right next to the nine, but that's not where it is on a number pad. But you shouldn't pay too much attention to me: my keyboard has a real number pad.
