How to reveal a list of search results from multiple volumes in finder?

Recommended Posts

Newbie question!  I would like to get a list of all files from multiple mounted volumes matching a pattern or of a particular file type to be shown in finder.

  • I'd like to see all files that match, not just the first 40 or 200
  • The files may be found across a number of mounted network folders or on the local machine
  • I can sort and open files from the results (thus I am thinking reveal in finder makes sense)

Examples of use case

  • show me all omnigraffle files on this machine and on the mounted drives (I am fine constraining this to a set list of mounted volumes)
  • show me all files with "blah" in the filename on this machine and on the mounted drives (I am fine constraining this to a set list of mounted volumes)

Based on my reading so far it looks like a workflow using a script filter may be the only way to do this- is that right? I am open to all suggestions.   A sample would be great.
