Format phone number string

I often copy phone numbers out of web pages/emails, etc and need to paste them in a specific format (1-234-567-8903).

 

Is there a workflow that takes what's selected (or on the clipboard), formats and puts it back on the clipboard?

I don't know of one off the top of my head but this shouldn't be too complicated. Would they always be in a specific starting format or would it vary?

Varying.

Easiest would be to strip out all formatting then add the 1 (if necessary) then add the formatting.
