Copy url contents (image) to the clipboard?

So the result of my script filter is going to be a url. The url in turn points to a image.  Is there a way to take the url and save it to the clipboard?

 

If not how about saving the url to a temporary file and then copying that to the clipboard?

Alfred's workflows have a "Copy to Clipboard" output item that should fit this perfectly.
