jer2665
Not sure if this app would be useful for many, but I needed it in my workflow, so I made it and might as well share it here. There's the "quit" keyword built into alfred, but that seems to only work for open items in the dock. I have a lot of menu bar items and use the app Bartender to organize them all. So when I want to quit one it's a few clicks, and certain items like "Boom 2" I need to quit whenever I'm on a skype or facetime, so I wanted an easier way to quit it. This adds a quit keyword that runs an applescript to close the app. If you know the app name, you can just type "quit <app name>" If you're not sure the app name, you can search for it in alfred and there's a new file action "quit" that you can use. Search for app, press ctrl and choose quit. The workflow is up at https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lucbk6g12ulvvg/Quit Other Applications.alfredworkflow Edited June 18, 2019 by jer2665 Link to comment
jer2665
No one seemed to need this, but after reformatting I found I needed it, so I was glad to have it here. So that's why I'm updating it now, and saving it here in case I need it again. I've tweaked the way the keyword works because I was annoyed at having to remember 'Alfred 3' instead of 'alfred', or something like that. The script now gets a list of running apps and does a regex to match query+"([^,]*)" so you don't have to enter the whole thing, and it grabs the first example. So err on the side of writing more of the name, because just entering "A" probably won't get what you want. Edited September 12, 2017 by jer2665 dakush and Diegobit 2 Link to comment
DrunkenCowboy
I just downloaded this and I actually really like it. I hide my dock and have multiple monitors/windows open and often need to close things in random windows and instead of clicking/swiping/CMD+Q'ing everything I can just use Alfred Thanks! jer2665 1 Link to comment
barna
Thank you, your workflow works perfectly (I have to quit Boom when I listen to my Mac with my headphone as sound is distorted). jer2665 1 Link to comment

Sorry about that, my guess is it has to do with dropbox stopping the 'Public' folder stuff, but the url has been updated. And just for ease of clicking, here you go. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0lucbk6g12ulvvg/Quit Other Applications.alfredworkflow Edited September 12, 2017 by jer2665 dakush 1 Link to comment

gonnatryanyways
Hi there @jer2665, this is an old thread but your workflow is exactly what I'm looking for; a way to exit menu bar apps (and for the same reason you listed, boom, although now I have Boom3d). I tried installing it but no apps show when inputing text, or at all if it was supposed to generate a list on selection of 'quit'. I'm on Alfred 3. Just in case you're still out there! 🤞 Link to comment

Just in case you're still out there! 🤞 Hey @gonnatryanyways, it's been a while since I messed with this, but I just tested on alfred4 and it seems to work, no longer using alfred3 though, but doesn't bring up the list of items you can quit, but for me, 'quit boom' is working to quit boom3d for me, and usually you can just do "quit oversight" or whatever is up there and it'll work. Another way if that doesn't seem to work, you can just start typing 'boom' to get it to show the boom app, then you click ctrl and there are the file lists, you can either find the 'quit' in there, or press q to jump to it and hit enter and it should close that app. Hope that makes sense. It was definitely down and dirty, and I think I got it just good enough, and never found out how to display the list of items, so hopefully it'll just work for you, and if I get some time I'll try to actually make this work how it should and show the list of items. Oh my, maybe if I'd actually read your first post completely through I wouldn't have had to harass you, sorry! It absolutely works as stated. I updated to 4 before I saw your response so I can't specifically vouch for 3 but I'd bet it's fine and that it was just this user's error. @jer2665 Thanks for the workflow and your quick response! Great, glad it's working, also your post made me update the images, so I don't blame you for not reading it, it looked all screwed up without the images. Link to comment
