problems with El Capitan: no application found

After installing the latest update for El Capitan, Alfred is no longer functional and is unable to find  any application. I have reindexed using the spotlight, and rebuilt the OS X metadata, which is now shaded gray.  Any suggestions?

Hi Andrew,

 

When you clicked on "Rebuild OS X Metadata", did you enter your password and press the return key? When you did this, did you see any error messages?

 

Take a look at step 4 here for details of what you should expect to see when rebuilding the metadata index:

It should say "Indexing enabled" and "In a few moments, OS X will start rebuilding your metadata index", which confirms that the process has started. :)
