Sebastian Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 Hello - I would love to have a workflow to open/focus certain apps with a global shortcut (eg cmd+1 for firefox, cms+2 for slack, cmd+3 for emacs etc). I've setup a basic workflow and it works like a charm apart from the Emacs app (https://emacsformacosx.com). It seems that the launch command is ignored. Is there anything I can do to fix it?
Andrew Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 @Sebastian Are there certain scenarios where it works, for example does it work when Emacs is fully quit? What full path do you have to Emacs, and which version of macOS are you using?
Sebastian Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 Hey, > Are there certain scenarios where it works, for example does it work when Emacs is fully quit? Good catch, it does actually open the Emacs for the first time but it cannot focus it. > What full path do you have to Emacs, and which version of macOS are you using? Standard `/Applications/Emacs.app`, Catalina 10.15.1, Alfred 4.0.6 (build 1124).
Andrew Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 This looks to be related to Catalina and Emacs specifically: https://www.alfredforum.com/topic/13807-upgrade-macos-catalina-and-alfred-4-alfred-couldnt-switch-the-window-to-emacs/ Outside of Alfred, what behaviour do you get with Emacs using alternative methods of re-launch (e.g. double clicking in finder, and from Spotlight). Also, are there any other apps which exhibit this behaviour? Cheers, Andrew

None of this work. Only cmd+tab and clicking on the dock helps. Is there any alternative way to setup Alfred? Could you give me some technical details that I could post to emacs for osx issues page so they can look at it as well?
Sebastian Posted November 30, 2019 Author Posted November 30, 2019 Anyway I worked around the issue by using different Emacs distribution (https://github.com/d12frosted/homebrew-emacs-plus).
