StefanMach Posted July 3, 2021 Posted July 3, 2021 Hello, So Alfred is having no problem locating any app other than the task manager app "Things". It is newly downloaded, I reset the search scope, etc, but it will not work. I dropped the app under file search troubleshooting and this is what I got: Starting Diagnostics... File: 'Things3.app' Path: '/Applications' ----------------------------------------------------------- Check file cache database... ✅ File cache integrity is ok ----------------------------------------------------------- Check if file is readable... ✅ Alfred has permissions to read this file. ----------------------------------------------------------- Check if volume '/' is indexed by macOS... ✅ Indexing is enabled on this drive ----------------------------------------------------------- Check direct file metadata... ⚠️ Direct metadata is missing, this file is likely not indexed by macOS Display Name: Other Names: Content Type: Last Used: ----------------------------------------------------------- Check mdls file metadata... ❌ macOS metadata missing essential items kMDItemFSContentChangeDate = (null) kMDItemFSCreationDate = (null) kMDItemFSCreatorCode = "" kMDItemFSFinderFlags = (null) kMDItemFSHasCustomIcon = (null) kMDItemFSInvisible = 0 kMDItemFSIsExtensionHidden = (null) kMDItemFSIsStationery = (null) kMDItemFSLabel = (null) kMDItemFSName = (null) kMDItemFSNodeCount = (null) kMDItemFSOwnerGroupID = (null) kMDItemFSOwnerUserID = (null) kMDItemFSSize = (null) kMDItemFSTypeCode = "" ----------------------------------------------------------- ❌ Troubleshooting failed Anyone know what to do? Thanks
deanishe Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 What I generally do when Alfred doesn’t find a newly-installed app is launch it via file navigation mode, i.e. enter /Applications/Things in Alfred and launch the app. Alfred will always find it after that, but I’ve never checked if there was missing metadata… To force macOS/Spotlight to index the app, run mdimport /Applications/Things.app in Terminal.app. After that, you’ll probably still need to enter /Applications/Things into Alfred to launch the app or reload to tell Alfred to refresh its cached list of applications.
