The chances of the devs replacing it with their own version are essentially zero, and the chances of their building a superior version if they did (given the available resources) are practically nil. And then you'd have two indexers running, which isn't going to help the performance of either. Your best bet is to hope that Apple continues to improve the performance of the system, as they have been doing since it was introduced. Do you remember how much slower it was when it first came out?
