If you transferred your files using Migration Assistant, you'll be encountering the Monterey bug described here. Please take a look at step 2 and update your search scope according to this:

https://www.alfredapp.com/help/troubleshooting/indexing/monterey

If you need further help, please provide all of the information outlined at the bottom of the Indexing page, as you currently haven't provided enough information about your individual setup for us to be able to help you.

Troubleshooting passed

I am not sure if I am having this issue, since I didn't migrate and I am using Alfred for my very first time.

The thing is file search didn't throw any result, and after looking at this thread, one post said to uncheck Folders in Home in Search Scope, and instead to manually add the home folder to folder list.

This did the trick, and it is a good workaround. But my OCD makes me to be a bit uncomfortable with this. Will reindexing fix this?

Thank you very much!

This has affected me also, migrating from an Intel Mac mini to M1 MBP.

Troubleshooting passed all green ticks: https://pastebin.com/raw/TnsWG2mi

Widening the scope works. Is it recommended to leave that in place? It's not a great experience as it returns way to many matches.

I did a deep reindex just for kicks, will see what it's like once it has finished.

Thanks to this article I was able to fix the issues with searching for files on external volumes, however, there are some specifics and other steps I had to accomplish to get everything to work and show metadata as expected.

Here are the steps I had to go through as a final fix.

NOTE: My issue was specifically for volumes created with OWC SoftRAID where I was unable to search for files either in Finder or Alfred and none of the metadata would show up in the preview window in Finder.  This kept applications like Final Cut Pro from being able to sort on metadata fields.

1. Run the Validate utility on all SoftRAID volumes.

2. Use Disk Utility to run the Repair option.  This step gave me an error prior to running the Validate step.

3. Run the Alfred script for search issues.  NOTE: This does NOT delete the Spotlight indexes on removable media for some reason.

4. Add the SoftRAID volumes to the Spotlight Privacy tab and let the mds_stores process finish (>1hr on a 12TB volume)

5. Remove the SoftRAID volumes from the Spotlight Privacy tab and  let the mds_stores process finish (>1hr on a 12TB volume)

6. Add the /Volume path to the Alfred search list.  Running the search test previously gave an error of the path missing.

7. Confirm search results for a specific file on the SoftRAID volume along with visible metadata.

Issue solved.

Both my old and new Macs were 12.0.1 Apple Silicon.

Well, I got a new MacBook, and here I find myself again. Stuff in my home folder shows up in Spotlight. If I set my search scope to '/' in Alfred, it can find it. But if I have search scopes in either the general settings or if I use a workflow that applies a search scope, suddenly no files in my home folder can be found. If I make the scope /Users, things in /Users/Shared can be found, and my user folder itself can be found, but things inside my user folder cannot be found. I used macOS Migration Assistant on macOS Ventura 13.4 It looks like last time, the solution involved some combination of patience, creating a new user, and reindexing, so I guess that's what I will try. Would be great if Alfred could detect this condition and suggest a fix or something. It's a very frustrating set of seemingly contradictory behaviors.
