Startup selection to launch Alfred at login doesn't persist after Preferences window is closed

    • Alfred 5.1.2 Pre-release | Build 2144, Tuesday 4th July 2023

After updating to version 5.1.1 late last week (previous version unknown), I had to re-add my Powerpack license and found all of my settings had been lost. I've reset everything again from scratch, but one issue persists: the startup selection for Alfred to launch at login does not persist after Alfred's preferences window is closed.

Therefore, Alfred no longer launches at system startup. I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled Alfred (including re-enabling Alfred as a launch item in my Mac settings) and have manually disabled and re-enabled all four permissions listed on the General tab of the preferences screen. Alfred is set to sync with Dropbox, Dropbox's SmartSync is disabled, Dropbox is set as a launch item in my Mac settings, and all other customized settings load fine when I open Alfred manually. Not sure what other steps I can take.

Not sure if this is related: after disabling or enabling permissions, a notification appears saying Alfred will continue to have access/not have access until it is quit and reopened. However, selecting the "Quit and Reopen" option doesn't have any noticeable effect beyond dismissing the notification window — Alfred neither closes nor reopens unless it's done manually. The permissions changes work as expected.

Changing the hotkey and closing the preferences window works as expected, it's just the startup option that doesn't save. I can email diagnostics logs if they'd be helpful.

To be absolutely clear, are you saying that you ensure that under System Settings → Login Items Alfred 5.app appears under Open at Login?

What you're experiencing won't be related to updating Alfred's version. It could be caused by a number of things, but essentially means that permissions aren't being correctly saved in macOS.

First, try manually removing and re-adding Alfred 5 to the "Open at Login" items under System Settings > General > Login Items. If you restart your Mac, is Alfred 5 still listed there?

Hey, thanks for responding. Alfred 5 was listed under Login Items, but after removing it and re-adding it the issue is resolved. Thanks for the suggestion!
